I’ve probably shared this one before (from my Japanese ambient post a little while back). Sort of some chill-out music to prep me for one of my upcoming trips over the next few weeks.
I got turned on to his work from an EP he recorded with Finnish ambient artist Augustus Bro.
I’ll try to post more later as time permits.
Every destination the next few weeks gets me to a coast. And a world in which new Gorillaz tracks drop on a nearly yearly basis is not entirely lost.
In my first comment to Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 67, I wrote that I had another White Russian recipe already planned for this week’s diary. Here it is: White Russian Float.
Perfect drink for a hot day, which it is where I am.
The bartender is taking requests.
And now something a bit different:
I listened to stuff like Throbbing Gristle at some point in my young life. After they split, I never really could get into Psychic TV, but Chris & Cosey had their share of moments for a while. This track was from the mid-1980s, but could have been fit into just about any chillout setting a decade later.
Back to our traveling theme:
I love Budapest. This video inspired me to find an excuse to visit. The video artist for this one I think just shot this doing a bike ride around parts of the city. I hope to find one more excuse to get there in my lifetime. Was hoping some events surrounding George Gerbner’s 100th birthday would do it (he was a big name in media communication research at one point), but so far that doesn’t look too promising. I think Vienna is my favorite city in the EU, but I somehow manage to feel at home in Budapest.
Portions of this track were used in a VW Jetta commercial. Never owned a Jetta and probably never will, but I always loved this music. Fit in with a lot of electronica of the late 1990s. There was a sort of hopefulness in this piece that seems to fit with those of us who viewed the impending 21st century full of optimism. Most of us know better now, but this tune (and others I could post from this time) are reminders that there were a bunch of crazy dreamers who for just a moment thought anything was possible.
And here’s another version of this tune, with a video that actually tries to educate. Maybe there is still room for us crazy dreamers:
Someone once used this same music as a soundtrack to a skydive from high altitude. That was a thing of beauty, long since deleted.
That was really cool. I could track storm systems, including tropical ones, all over the planet.
Now, when I think of informative music videos with graphics, the first one that comes to mind is Remind Me by Röyksopp.
It’s time to take my mind off things …
Escape My Mind

I can’t hear that song without thinking of Chipotle – Back to the Start.
Thanks to Oui’s act of necromancy, this entry is back on the rec list. That makes it possible to have two diaries in this series on the rec list simultaneously, which is something I don’t ever recall seeing. Click on Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 72 to see the most recent installment of this series. Don’t forget to rec and tip!
