It was only a matter of time before someone tried to use a drone to kill a head of state. And Venezuela is hardly a surprising place to see the first attempt.

When Maduro’s regime crumbles, whoever inherits the Venezuelan government will have one hell of a mess to clean up. As it is now, I highly doubt Maduro will complete his current term as “President”. On the surface, he appears to have a large enough faction of the military on his side. That’ll prop him up for now. The problems of hyperinflation, shortages of basic supplies, a crumbling oil extraction infrastructure (the country’s one main export), and discontent even among those who were and still perhaps are dedicated to Chavez’ vision are red flags for that regime. Protests flare up every now and again, and those protesters are going to reappear angrier. He’ll be overthrown either by an opposition that has become more unified since the waning days of Chavez, or by forces within what is left of the movement Chavez once led.
Yep. I get the impression that he is basically inept – at least once he reached the upper echelons of government. As foreign minister, apparently he had know knowledge of anything beyond his native language. I am guessing his knowledge of other cultures was just as underwhelming. He barely won the presidency in 2013, even when he should at that time have been able to bask in the good memories many still had of Chavez. Whatever shortcomings Chavez had as a leader (the approach to redistributing wealth in part required actions that weakened the one industry the country relied on, and instead of building a movement appeared to make the movement about the man in charge), Maduro has surely made Chavez seem like a genius. Add to that an ego the size of Texas, and a penchant for conspiracy theories and demonizing the press and democratically elected opposition. The economy is effectively ruined. Loans from the IMF will not cut it when it comes to repairing the damage done. So yeah, Trump-level fuckup is quite accurate. Still wondering when sites like Venezuelanalysis which still run puff pieces will finally decide to say basta.
Has anyone claimed responsibility?
And if someone did, why would we believe it in this PostTruth world?
Cui bono, I wonder.
It even could be the U.S.
Especially if it missed.

Could also be Maduro, to create a pretext to eliminate some elements of the military.
it worked in Turkey.
Now we can watch the clock on the first head of state (or aspiring candidate) to die by 3D printed gun.
