Outrageous charges from for profit hospital
The link details the financial dilemma of a teacher with a horrendous bill despite “good” public school insurance.
Look at the 2,000% markup on the stents and the overall 400% overcharge against “reasonable and proper”. Because they can. Because the law protects the wolf and not the lamb.
If you are under Medicare they cannot legally charge you more than 15% above the Medicare approved rate even if they don’t participate. That should be the limit for everyone whether they are in medicare or not.
But Centrists tell us all is fine with Obamacare and we don’t need any socialist Medicare For All.
Monopolists extracting monopoly profits in the guise of the (phony) “free market”. Ever-increasing market concentration requires ever-more government oversight and intervention, while we receive less and less.
As for Obamacare, obviously it’s being sabotaged right and left at this point–particularly by those in DC whose job it is to “faithfully execute” it. Hard to see how such a complex law can possibly hold up under the relentless Repub attack. Indeed, with the loss of McCain’s seat to another rightwing extremist, a Repub hold in Nov will spell the complete end of it.
That man looks like he’s made of . . . straw!
(Gosh, wonder if I’d be able to predict the “response”!)
To be more precise, as the linked article mentions, there are actually laws written to prevent this situation in many states, including the one where it happened. This particular case falls into a loophole in the law that fails to protect people covered by self-insuring employers. There’s no need to redo the entire US health insurance system. Just fixing that loophole will do it.
There’s nothing bad about the Medicare for All slogan (although actually doing Medicare for All wouldn’t be all that good because it has high copays). Actual proposals on the table are closer to Medicaid for All, which is workable. But there are many roads to the Rome of universal affordable healthcare.
