Crap. I’ve got to put my game face on and get back to work.

A concatenation of thieves.
Nothing more and nothing less.
Go back to your vacation, Booman.
There may not be “honor” among thieves, but there is certainly cooperation in veiling…if not completely incapacitating…the truth.
The best line in your link?
I mean…really!!! I don’t care how rich you may be. $25 million is not exactly chump change.
All the crooks are…when it suits their thieving interests…playing ball with all of the other crooks. And that includes…if not the entire FBI…any number of crooked FBI members.
Always remember J. Edgar Hoover.
Always.
The FBI’s founder!!!
Crooked as they come.
Bet on it.
Harassing important people for their sexual peccadillos while simultaneously dressing in drag and playing hide the banana with his second in command!!!
The fish rots from the head, even when the head is long dead.
Bet on that as well.

Trying and failing to turn this guy shouldn’t discredit the investigation if the response is spun in competent PR hands. The FBI were just doing their job, running down leads. Some leads pan out. Some don’t. The Steel Dossier controversy reminds me a little of the famous Killian documents. They both occupy a gray area of being worthy of serious consideration with decent odds of being true, but rejected as 100% false for political reasons. At any rate it’s easy to understand why Deripaska would want to pass on ratting out Putin for any price.
Suggests a whole new level of game plans and just because NYT says Oleg rejected doesn’t mean that’s the whole ball game.
Someone is stitching Deripaska up with Putin.
All this tells us is that Oleg publicly rejected an attempt to become an informant or a cooperating whatever. Why is this story coming out at this time at all? Is there a red herring thing going on in which the FBI want it to be known that Deripaska just wouldn’t cooperate no matter what? Oh well so much for the Deripaska case.
Except that the cops and the FBI do this all the time with snitches and deep cover informants to keep attention away from them while they secretly continue to provide useful intel. I’m not saying that is happening with Oleg; he may be (justifiably) quite fearful of that polonium latte from Vlad the Killer. OTOH, he may have requested a little distraction right now in order to give him more protection because he is still an active source. I have no idea.
It has happened before at least with the US mafia and no doubt a lot during the Cold War.
Or, Oleg did not tell Putin he had be approached by the FBI and now he has to rethink the whole cooperate or not again. But for sure, this story is out here in the press to send a message to someone.
