Welcome back, music lovers. This week is devoted to the 60th anniversary of Miles Davis’ classic Kind of Blue. This is some of the stuff I would have heard on the record player as a small child. Later I’d become every bit as much a fan as my dad:
I’ll keep posting other songs from this album this week. Kind of Blue is truly timeless.
Of course when I think back, I couldn’t help but perceive of this stuff as “old” – after all this was the stuff my dad was into. My kids would deal with someone who played a lot of 1970s/1980s punk/postpunk, anarchopunk, mixed in with some 1980s and 1990s EDM, and probably heard more than their fair share of Eno and Aphex Twin. That was probably “old” to them. If I learned one thing from my dad, that was to appreciate music that had as he would put it “lasting value” – stuff you’d want to listen to decades later, stuff that was well-written and recorded, stuff that took chances, that took talent. Granted there is some music from my early days I find unlistenable, but the stuff I keep on a flashdrive for commutes is what I know I want to hear time and again. I ended up adding a lot of stuff from the mid-20th century to the mix thanks to dad. It has lasting value as well. Knowing me, I’d probably say the same about artists like Kesha (especially her recent work) – just don’t tell my kiddos.
This beautiful track ends the album.
Since yesterday was National Oreo Cookie Day, I’m serving Oreo Cookie drink recipes from Tipsy Bartender all week, beginning with How to make the Oreo Cookie Martini.
The next Oreo Cookie drink recipe from Tipsy Bartender I’m sharing is How to make Oreo Cookie Infused Vodka.
Now we’re talking.
Working my way up from the oldest Oreo cookie recipes at Tipsy Bartender to the present, today I am serving Adult Oreo Shake.
The final recipe I plan on sharing for this installment is Drunken Oreo Cookies.
Still on the rec list, so I will add another vid from this classic LP. Not sure what I will have on tap for next week, but if there are requests, give me a shout out.
One more for the road?
