Someone got bored and decided to really stir up some shit, which is often an admirable thing to do but also why we try to have after-school programs to reduce juvenile delinquency. In this case, the victim is U.K. ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch, whose private assessments of the tyrant-toddler in the White House were blasted out to the whole world for our eternal amusement. Among other things, Darroch described our president as “radiating insecurity,” which is not a state secret but perhaps better kept secret as an official communication.  Now the New York Times is concerned that the leaks threaten “to damage bilateral relations at a delicate moment for Britain.”

Personally, I wouldn’t worry because the Brits are about to make Trump’s twin their prime minister, and as long as Trump doesn’t attempt to play rugby with Boris Johnson, our two nations’ will reach a level of synchronicity not seen since D-Day.

It didn’t take long after Trump’s inauguration for Darroch to disabuse his government of entertaining hope.

“We don’t really believe this administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept.”

This helpful advice is what you hope for in a seasoned diplomat, but now that we can all read it for ourselves, the man will be punished for his clairvoyance unlike, say, the “experts” who told us Iraq would go swimmingly and flourished afterwards despite their stupidity.

How many of our pundits gave us this much accuracy over the last two and a half years?

Ambassador Darroch’s six-page letter gave a harsh assessment of Mr. Trump’s domestic accomplishments, writing, “Of the main campaign promises, not an inch of the Wall has been built; the executive orders on travel bans from Muslim countries have been blocked by the state courts; tax reform and the infrastructure package have been pushed into the middle distance; and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare is on a knife edge.” Sir Kim wrote. The Ambassador ‘wouldn’t bet a tenner’ on Trump’s health proposals passing through the Senate.

Okay, I was basically that accurate, but I don’t get paid to talk on the teevee let alone tell foreign heads of state what the hell is and is not going to happen in American politics.

Why was this leaked now? I honestly have no earthly idea. There are so many possibilities, ranging from a desire to usher “globalists” out of sensitive spots in the British government to an ambition to hurt President Trump to more specific concerns like how America is handling its confrontation with Iran.

What’s valuable about it is that it confirms that Trump’s whole #FakeNews thing isn’t fooling our allies or our foes who both understand that he’s utterly buffoonish and incompetent. It’s just another data point helping the American voters have their choice on whether to reelect the man. It’s also another data point for Congress to show them that their duty calls and leaving this up to the voters is a coward’s way out.  It’s irresponsible to wait that long to remove this man from power.

Also, maybe this will finally convince the Brits that sending diplomats named “Kim” to Washington is bad luck.
