Midweek Cafe and Lounge, Vol. 140

It has already been quite a week. Thankfully we’re halfway through.

I’ll start things of on a contemplative note.

This track was released around the start of the decade. Wire of course have a 40+ year storied history. Somehow they managed to avoid the trap of becoming a legacy or greatest hits band. They release something new and genuinely novel ever few years. I could have posted something a bit more recent, but this track seemed timely.

The jukebox is loaded. We have a fully-stocked bar. I don’t know if I am still pulling double duty as DJ and bartender, but if so, I will do my best.

  1. I am recycling this from the last Cafe/Lounge as I suspect some of us are still processing Kamala Harris’ decision to drop out of the Democratic nomination race. She had sensible policies and I would have been thrilled to call her Madame President. So it goes.

In the meantime, Neon Vincent a while back posted a drink on his blog in honor of Kamala Harris when the whole debate season first started. So cheers:

  2. Decades before Lady Gaga, we had Terry Bozzio of Missing Persons. Not to drag Lady Gaga, who is after all a classically trained vocalist. Terry Bozzio and her bandmates were largely alums of Frank Zappa’s band, and certainly genuine talents in their own right. And they managed to use those talents to successfully tap into the post-punk Zeitgeist. This was probably the first video I ever saw of them, thanks to an MTV knockoff show on some UHF station:
