I have been waiting nine years for a judge to bring the hammer down on Donald Trump and expose him for the fraud that he is, and now the day has come, I’ve been waiting for the justice system to take this man down to the studs, and today’s ruling took an enormous step in that direction.
Former President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization must pay $354 million in fines, a judge ruled Friday, issuing his long-awaited judgment in the state’s civil fraud case. The decision also bars them from seeking loans from financial institutions in New York for a period of three years, and includes a three-year ban on Trump serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation.
Judge Arthur Engoron handed down his judgment in a 92-page decision on Friday. The ruling is one of the largest corporate sanctions in New York history. Trump has vowed to appeal.
The judge’s decision also blocks Allen Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, and Jeffrey McConney, former corporate controller, from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in the state for three years, and permanently bans them from serving in the “financial control function” of any New York corporation.
“The evidence is overwhelming that Allen Weisselberg and Jeffrey McConney cannot be entrusted with controlling the finances of any business,” Engoron’s order states.
In addition to imposing limits on Trump’s business activities, the order bans his two oldest sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or legal entity for two years.
Unfortunately, I can’t celebrate this the way I’d like because I have Covid-19. I tested positive on Thursday, and now I am quarantined in an upper room of my house. I don’t feel all that terrible, thanks to having recently gotten my booster, but I am not really up to doing serious writing. I’m kind of bummed my streak ended, but I went out to eat at a crowded restaurant, and if you don’t take precautions, you get Covid. That’s just how it is. Now I’m just trying to keep the rest of my family’s streak going.
In the meantime, I am savoring watching Trump be down apart piece by piece by piece by piece.
Sorry to hear you finally got the ‘vid! I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I’m a little disappointed that the ban for Trump only goes 3 years, and 2 for the boys, but at least he’s losing.
Hope you recover quickly.
I’m sorry you’re sick; I hope the rest of your crew stays healthy.
I’m beginning to think that three different outcomes are equally likely to happen: 1) Trump wins narrowly. 2) Biden wins narrowly. 3) Biden wins in a landslide.
Obviously the fact that someone like Trump stands a 1 in 3 chance of winning this election is horrifying…and says disturbing things about our country, our institutions, and ourselves.
But the fact that Biden winning in a landslide (10 percentage points or more) is a possibility ought to give Dems reason for hope and inspiration. It’s a simple scenario, really. Assume that half the voters being polled who say they won’t vote for Trump if he’s convicted on felony charges actually end up voting for Biden. That’s a small portion of the GOP base (maybe 10% of Republican voters, or 4-5% of the total electorate), but it’s enough to turn a narrow victory into a landslide.
It will take a little luck, but mostly it will take a lot of people determined to take Trump and the GOP “down to the studs”.
It’s always worth keeping a little hope alive, but at best I would expect these people to just stay at home or leave the presidential vote blank. But tbh I really think more than 80% of these poll responders are either lying to the pollsters or to themselves; Trump supporters can get used to absolutely anything he does within about 3 days.
I think we mostly agree. Part of what I think is that, having lost the popular vote by 7 million four years ago, Trump can’t afford to have too many of his supporters stay home, blank the top of the ballot, flip to Biden, or vote for a 3rd party candidate. Even if it’s only 10-20% of those poll responders, he’s just not in a good position to lose them.
Manchin announced he is not going to 3rd party run, which is very good. Not sure if the nutball Kennedy has any real pull, but then Stein didn’t and look what she did.
Really sorry to hear about your Covid situation. You have been kind of quite for a few days and I was hoping it wasn’t due to something like this. The isolating now, along with feeling kind of crappy makes for some long days. Hoping CG and Finn stay healthy. Give yourself time to recover sufficiently before you get back to the grind.
I guess we can just call this little downtime a
!!!!!!!!!!!MEDIA STRIKE!!!!!!!!!!!
Bet on it
Later…

Adding to this: Rest, rest, rest. Even after you feel better, try to lie down for at least an hour each day for the next 6-8 weeks. (Reduces the chances of Long COVID.)
