Oh my God! Willie Nelson was smoking pot on his tour bus. I sure am glad that the Border Patrol put a stop to that outrage. The next thing you know they’ll do something crazy like arresting Tommy Chong for selling bongs on the internet. When will these hippies ever learn? So, what does possession of six ounces get you in Texas these days?

I think it speaks more about there are several tiers of justice than “well what do you expect? It’s Willie Nelson.”
really? Let’s see what the punishment is; then we’ll know if being famous for smoking pot makes it less likely that you’ll get the full sentence for smoking pot.
clearly a very slow news day.
I know someone that used to be a border guard at an airport. She said that out of boredom they would wait until it was almost too late for someone they deemed/suspected illegal to pass their station and proceed to the another gate so that their border guard co-workers would have to scramble to catch him. Of course, sometimes it was too late. It was a game.
Six ounces in Texas? Life plus 50 yrs. Just a guess.
180 days – 2 years plus up to $10K in fines, for more than 4 OZ. More for repeat offenders, which Willie is. First timers, which Willie is not, must get probation (not jail) and treatment (for less than a pound that is).
Being above a 4OZ threshold puts this into felony range and that makes it tough.
I’m no lawyer, but the law does make a distinction between gifts and sale. Willie could say it was his but a gift to everyone on the bus and therefore possession was divided among all members. Maybe, just maybe, that would give a judge, who otherwise doesn’t want to convict Willie, a way out. Judges are elected in Texas BTW.
