Your new years sounds very nice (and sweet). We had a very nice new years too. We have a “tradition” of getting together with my older sister, her husband, and one other couple and having an easy-going evening of talk and food. Jim and I are the youngest so as soon as midnight hits we’re all ready for bed.
Is that potential distraction giving any hints he wants to get started on being one?
The potential distraction is riding really low today (sorry if that’s TMI). Maybe a nice New Year’s walk with the dogs will push things over the edge. I think I might need a nap first, though. 🙂
We still have a coating of snow on the ground from yesterday, even though it was raining last night. I’m thinking it might be a little icy this morning, but I’ve been too lazy to go out and check.
It’s really cold here but there’s no snow. I guess I’ll go bundle up and take the dogs out for and a walk. Then we’re heading up to Indy to visit with my mom and my younger sister and her husband (who are visiting my mom).
Happy New Year to all! And new decade! (Yes, I know that technically the new decade actually starts on Jan. 1, 2011–but 2010 feels more like a new decade.) It’s a quiet, peaceful morning and my cat’s keeping me company as I type. He’s gotten clingy in his old age–he’ll be 16 this year.
Our old puss is now 20 something and likes having a human companion in the same room. She prefers this box for her throne; something about the sides must appeal to her, since she has the choice of the soft sofa with blanket, or box. She has been untouchable except by Mrs. ID the entire 20 years she has lived here. All others, including me get a nasty hiss and scratches if we don’t watch ourselves around her. With Mrs. ID, she is deceptively lovey.
I’ve had two cats and a rabbit like that. I was the only one who could touch them. At least the cats just left when approached by others, not so the rabbit.
I used to warn people away from the cute little lop bunny by asking if they had ever seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail? One of my Pyrs, who had lived all her life in the same house with the bunny, one day forgot herself and put her head down to check on the rabbit, and then pulled her head up with a chunk missing from her nose.
Fortunately our current lot are all friendly, with only four of the five ducks unwilling to be picked up. Even the chicken lets us pick her up for a cuddle.
This song’s for you, Cabin. Boys are SO MUCH FUN. Because Moms (and grandmoms) are so needed in an unpredictable life – here comes the son, rated PG13:
It’s going to be a wonderful year!
My resolution – don’t get complacent.
Good morning!
Hope everyone made it comfortably through the night.
Too many latkes w/sour cream and salmon roe in my case…
A well, netflix has provided 3 episodes of Sopranos – starting now.
Good morning! I don’t know about where you are, but it’s a wet morning here, so the Sopranos sounds like a good way to spend the morning. CBtE is still asleep and CBtY is over at a friends, so we’re having a quiet morning here.
Our cloudiness dissipated during the night & brought sunshine this morning along with a 12F temperature. I think maybe I might prefer the rain as long as its warmer. I’m glad I’m not at work listening to stupid wingnut comments like, “Where’s that global warming?”
For anyone not growing human beings inside of them, I can’t recommend that recipe highly enough. Mmmm. And the celery is a good start toward eating more vegetables in the new year. 🙂
Hope everyone had a great New Year’s Eve and will have a great day today.
I took care of grandson, 3 last night and we had lots of fun….I woke up at 11:55 to see the ball come down in Times Square.
Cabin Girl, when is that baby coming, everyday I think for sure I will read it on here and no, can’t wait to hear the news.
Well, I saw that comment, was it yesterday?
curly and I are just back from the movies – 3 in one week; It’s Complicated, Avatar and now Up In The Air. curly opines it must be a record for me, and doubling this year’s total (give this day to 2009).
How are the Bloody Mary’s feeling?
My bloody marys are feeling no pain, ask. And they thank you for asking.
I saw Sherlock Holmes, which was good. I normally see maybe one movie per year, but I have been thinking of dragging myself to see It’s Complicated. Is it worth the sympathetic glances I’ll get going to a movie by myself?
Never mind paucity of company, I’m convinced you’ll have many laughs, some of them of the belly kind.
Lots of references that ‘our’ generation (born 50s and 60s) will relate to.
The really tragic thing is that I woke up several times during the night and fought the urge to fire up my laptop. So, Finn’s arrival made ME lose sleep. 🙂
If the time stamps on these threads are correct, CG had a lightning fast labor and delivery in a little over six hours… unless “going for a walk” was code for “OMG, I’ve been having contractions since last night!” LOL!
Actually, I speak from experience: My daughter only took six hours from the first noticable contraction to her first cough. And it was like lightning… surging thru my body in ungodly streaks of fire. Fast does not equal easy.
I went from 2 cm and thick (not effaced) at 4 pm to born at 6:12 pm, and found it way more intense than my 6 hour labors with the CBs. All you can do is hang on and hope it’ll be over soon – there’s no getting into a rhythm or anything.
Up here on the hill, the wind roars so continually through our trees that it sounds like the ocean surf. Current wind chills are probably down to about -20. That’s about 50 degrees below freezing.
No end to the outrageous wind in sight for us, on the year’s first weekend.
Hi CG. I like the image of the burrito baby. You can do different food wrappings every day. Tomorrow he can be a blintz baby, the day after that a cannoli baby, then a perogi baby, after that a samosa baby, then a tiropita baby, and then … sorry, I gotta stop before I put on too much weight. 🙂
We’ll meet your winds, but cannot compete with the cold (poor us). We picked our first crop of Boysenberries this evening. Hector is enjoying both cherries and berries in his daily fare. As well as pea pods from all the peas we are shelling to freeze.
For a new year and a new decade!
Continued from the last cafe …

Sounds like you had a nice evening too.

Maybe if you ask him really, really nice …

See ya later.
Have a nice walk and a safe trip to visit mom and sis and BIL.

Happy New Year Louisiana!

What a pretty kitty! Pity she only loves Mrs. ID…

Happy new year, ladies.
This year I’m going to try to become one of those people who sets goals and tries to attain them. I think that would help. 🙂
I haven’t made any resolutions for this year. I’m thinking that simply surviving LAST year was enough. 🙂
Better check in with Family Man for advise before you get too carried away;-)

Very cute.
Have a wonderful new year! What are you up to today?
Organizing, ignoring cookies, looking for excitement. How about you?
Same old stuff, not even any weather to speak of. My year started with a full 8-hour span of sleep, a big surprise for a geezer. No fuel involved.
Good morning!
Hope everyone made it comfortably through the night.

Those latkes sound good.

At curly’s. Gray, boring day outside.
They were damned good, we just shared the last one.
This is what we’re doing today. That and bowl games and DJ Hero.
For anyone not growing human beings inside of them, I can’t recommend that recipe highly enough. Mmmm. And the celery is a good start toward eating more vegetables in the new year. 🙂
I wish you all a wonderful, safe and healthy 2010 – group hug!
Wishing you the very same, GC!
Hope everyone had a great New Year’s Eve and will have a great day today.

Been awfully quiet from these two today…
My thought as well.
I really wanted live-blogging. 🙂
Well, I saw that comment, was it yesterday?

I laugh just looking at Alec Baldwin.
Thanks for the reco. I think I’ll treat myself, then.
With streaming video, IIRC;-)
You all might check the front page for the new Booman
of William Finn’s life. Are we going with his name or with the more “traditional” CBtB?
Well, I didn’t stay up late enough for the announcement last night. Missed it by THAT much! 🙂
Hope you are getting some sleep, CG. And welcome to the journey, BooMan.
I didn’t make it up either but that just meant we were met with a very fine way to start the day. 🙂
Good morning, SN and Andi!
Missed it by THAT much! 🙂
Same here, even checked by FB around midnight as I retired in case of news.
Hi Ask.
Fortunately the baby didn’t need any of us to get himself here. 🙂
Yea, how strange is that 🙂
The really tragic thing is that I woke up several times during the night and fought the urge to fire up my laptop. So, Finn’s arrival made ME lose sleep. 🙂
Hah, my sleep was deep – so deep that my snoring made curly evacuate to the couch …
Well, time for exercise – out in the cold.
If the time stamps on these threads are correct, CG had a lightning fast labor and delivery in a little over six hours… unless “going for a walk” was code for “OMG, I’ve been having contractions since last night!” LOL!
lightning fast delivery = someone else’s delivery. 🙂
Actually, I speak from experience: My daughter only took six hours from the first noticable contraction to her first cough. And it was like lightning… surging thru my body in ungodly streaks of fire. Fast does not equal easy.
Yeah, I think my shortest labor was the most painful, and scariest, because there wasn’t really any warming up period.
I went from 2 cm and thick (not effaced) at 4 pm to born at 6:12 pm, and found it way more intense than my 6 hour labors with the CBs. All you can do is hang on and hope it’ll be over soon – there’s no getting into a rhythm or anything.
Hey there! I’m so excited and I can almost smell him from here. Now go back to sleep.
Good to see you, CG! Hope you’re doing great & Finn is fine. BooMan is obviously fine.
Many, many warm congratulations to you!
What a nice surprise over on the FP this morning! Congratulations CabinGirl, BooMan and CBs! Welcome to the frog pond, Finn!
I’m so confused. I feel like every day for the past week has been Sunday. I only figured out the day by Boran’s Saturday painting palooza.
Just read the FP – CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone’s comfy coy this evening.
Up here on the hill, the wind roars so continually through our trees that it sounds like the ocean surf. Current wind chills are probably down to about -20. That’s about 50 degrees below freezing.
No end to the outrageous wind in sight for us, on the year’s first weekend.
Comfy coy = comfy cozy.
(Though if you like to be coy, that’s fine too.)
Well, it used to be coy, but at my age, comfy is the definite priority.
It’s really cold and windy here too – hope you’re all snug where you are too.
Stay warm and give little Finn a big hug from us!
Consider it done! 🙂
He’s all wrapped up like a little burrito of baby right now.
MMM…cannolli baby sounds delish to me. 🙂
I think we need a new cafe…be right back.
Never been coy – must be the aspbergers.
We’ll meet your winds, but cannot compete with the cold (poor us). We picked our first crop of Boysenberries this evening. Hector is enjoying both cherries and berries in his daily fare. As well as pea pods from all the peas we are shelling to freeze.
Lucky, lucky Hector!
Happy New Year, WW.
It’s all of 4° here but the wind is calm so I guess I’ll consider myself comparatively lucky.
Yeh — lucky is always relative up here in the northern half in January.
Wishing you & your cohort a very, very Happy New Year as well!
