   Does anyone ever post on the Midwestern thread? 🙂

   So, I’m in SoDak and if you had asked me even a month ago if our state might be important when we hold our primary in JUNE, I would have laughed.

   It still shouldn’t be a deciding primary – this whole thing better be wrapped up by then or I’m going to go nuts.

   At least most folks I know here (who aren’t supporting McCain) are supporting Obama.

     I see where the Detroit City Clerk is worried about having the manpower to pull this off.  It doesn’t help that the mayor has been a major distraction.  Maybe the people could get a recall on the ballots.

   Lipinski endorses Obama.  Pretty late for an Illinois congressperson, but then Lipinski is a Bush Dog more ideologically aligned with Clinton than Obama.

   I think that leaves only Rahm as uncommitted from the Illinois delegation.

   FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) –  Democratic candidate Barack Obama arrived at Wayne High School in Fort Wayne at 11:00 a.m. and was welcomed on stage by Mike Riley.

   Riley was Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign manager who organized Kennedy’s campaign rally in Indy when Dr. King was assassinated 40 years ago.  It was at that rally stop that RFK gave what Riley says, “was one of the finest speeches in the 20th century.”  

   Riley said he believes Obama has captured the passion of RFK and MLK and has been able to identify and be passionate with several demographics including the middle class.  “We all want change, Riley said, “and we’re sick and tired of George Bush.  We need change, not of something that is easy, but what is hard.”

   Riley continued with comparing Obama with the late Robert Kennedy and Dr. King.  “They would say that Obama stands for the same issues they were about.  He gives us hope…Obama stands for not what is popular but what is right.  A person who can bring people together, black, white, young, old, poor, wealthy,” said Riley.

   Riley then introduced, “the next President of the United States.”  Obama took the stage about 11:20 a.m. after shaking hands with supporters in the front rows.

   Obama started with a moment of silence to honor Dr. King.

    Obama is coming to South Dakota on Friday (5/16)! The details have not yet been announced, but he will be in both Watertown and Sioux Falls on Friday – and potentially Aberdeen on Saturday.

    I’m definitely going (as is the hubby) and will post pics and video after the event 🙂

    Today, Colorado Democratic Party Chair and superdelegate Pat Waak announced her support for  Barack Obama, citing his electability and strong support in Colorado.

    Waak said:  “Today I am proud to announce my endorsement of Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

    I have maintained my neutrality throughout Colorado’s selection process but feel compelled today to announce my support for several important reasons:

    First, as Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party, I am influenced by the voters of Colorado who have turned out in historic numbers over the past four months. Senator Obama won the precinct caucuses, county conventions, Congressional District conventions and the Colorado State Democratic Convention with over 60% of the vote and has brought thousands of new voters into the process.

    Second, I believe that Sen. Obama and his message of change is what Colorado wants and that he will defeat John McCain in November.  In fact, the most recent Rasmussen poll on May 19, 2008 shows a Sen. Obama with a 6-point lead in a head-to-head race and I think that margin will only increase as voters see the clear difference.

    Finally, I believe that our country needs the type of visionary, uplifting leadership that Senator Obama has shown during this long campaign. In the state of Colorado his message of hope has attracted young people, new Democrats and Independent voters who will make up a winning coalition this fall.

    As state party chair, I will continue to respect all the voters who have made different choices and I will ensure everyone is treated fairly. However, I believe the time has come to step forward and endorse Sen. Obama for president of the United States.”
