Might As Well Make A Meal Of It
First Course — SOMETHING LIGHT
Prime Minister’s Officer’s Statement; May 17, 2005
Asked if there was any leak inquiry into the “extraordinary” number of secret documents leaked to Sunday newspapers during the election campaign that were later found to be genuine, such as the minute of the Crawford Texas meeting and the Attorney General’s advice the PMOS said that we took very seriously the leaking of any document and this kind of document in particular. He had not heard any explanation as to why there were so many leaks, but he had no doubt that there would be the proper inquiries made.
Asked why the Foreign Secretary was in the United States the PMOS said that he had planned to be in the US to meet with Condoleeza Rice and to give a speech. He had planned to do so before the opposition choose tomorrow as the day for the Foreign Affairs debate. As people would know doubt be aware it was the opposition that choose the order of debates and not the Government.

Hoon has backing of Prime Minster and Cabinet
September 11, 2003
Times Online – HomeBY RICHARD COLWILL AND PA NEWS
Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, today defended his evidence to the Commons intelligence committee after it accused him of withholding information from their inquiry on Iraq.
Mr Hoon told the Commons that he had “no intention whatsoever other than to be open and straightforward” with the Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) over the Iraqi dossier.
He added: “I regret any misunderstanding that might have arisen.”
The ISC said earlier today it was “disturbing” that Mr Hoon did not disclose full details of the concerns expressed by Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS) about the Government’s Iraq weapons dossier.
The ISC said in its report on the Iraq affair, which was published today, that the initial failure of the Ministry of Defence to reveal details of the concerns had been “unhelpful and potentially misleading”.
Main Course — THE MEAT OF THE MATTER
Too Many Cooks Spoil the Intel
All Intel from The Hutton Report. This and all resources can be found at: EUROLEGAL
What you’re looking at is the result of a chefs conference on just how the intel should be “cooked.” They were concerned that if they followed the recipe, the intel would be overdone, cooked too much. This is the “intelligence that was being fixed to fit the policy.”
What do I think? Well, I’m wondering what we’re going to have for dessert.

Complex or perplex!
Sad, can’t ask Dr. David Kelly, a renowned specialist on WMDs in Iraq and abolishment of chemical weapons in the former Soviet Union.

You’ve got it exactly. This was the exact same date of the Kelly murder inquiry. There is news today that a delegaton from Congress, led by Congressman John Conyers, may be going to London to investigate these documents.
Please God they look into Kelly’s murder.
Murder is rather strong. You have no evidence.
‘Assisted Suicide’ would be closer to it.

… not fully accurate in regards to the background and state of mind of Dr. David Kelly.
Dr. David Kelly’s true loyalty was to honesty, not a conclusion to suit a political goal. The point is, he didn’t divulge any secrets in interview with BBC reporter Gilligam. It wasn’t unusual, as he had several interviews over a period of months, with several reporters. The pressure came from two sides —
Dr. David Kelly had a number of internal meetings with his supervisors at the Department of Defense, to find out what was discussed and to repair the damage. Added to this investigation, the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee wanted to protect Blair and the government, and thereby added more pressure in the hearings just before Dr. Kelly’s death.
The fact that Dr. Kelly was telling the truth, but his own hierarchy attacked him for speaking out, put undue pressure on an honest and outstanding WMD specialist who had many achievements. His reputation would be shattered by DoD, would receive a reprimande, plus they most likely told Dr. Kelly he would miss out on his pension allowances. The personal circumstances of Dr. Kelly’s wife, who had a grave and possible terminal disease, was enough for an honest researcher to walk into the woods nearby his home and ended his life. Just hours before, Dr. David Kelly was still sending emails to close friends and colleagues.
Tony Blair called for restraint
A tragedy, where the British press following PM Blair on his visit to the Far East, in a press conference put forth this blunt question: “How does it feel Mister Prime Minister, to have blood on your hands”. There came no reply, but the whitening of his face was, in a way, an accurate response.
Oui – Liberté – Egalité – Fraternité
I accept the critique – I didn’t do any refreshing research now, I was reacting to what I thought was an inflammatory accusation of murder. My thoughts were based on extensive reading at the time of Dr Kelly’s death and its aftermath – and my memory of them.
But the point remains that we don’t know what Kelly said to Gilligan or the tone and gestures that he used to convey his possibly roundabout hints. And are we sure what he actually said to any of the other journalists?
As I understand it, his contacts with these others were internally sanctioned by his department, and most of these contacts preceded the US/UK plan to fix the intelligence, and were more part of another policy surrounding UN resolutions regarding weapons inspection.
As usual a timeline is a useful tool.
