“Well, the retirement of Sandra Day O’Connor from the Supreme Court means that the fireworks in Washington, DC are going to last a lot longer than this holiday weekend. Join me this Sunday for a special edition of Politically Direct when my guests will be Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and People for the American Way President Ralph Neas. Fasten your seatbelts, Air Americans…it’s going to be a wild ride!” Air America’s Politically Direct. (Listen.)

It is a shame that Al Franken et al have been on
vacation during this really tumultuous week in the USA.
So, thanks Susan for the heads up on this.
That was rotten timing, wasn’t it. And I was a bit surprised that Air America didn’t hustle and get a guest host on to cover all the news…. maybe Franken’s contract doesn’t allow a sub?
P.S. Do you listen to Springer? I’ve heard him a couple times in the car, but tired of his monologues, and no guests.
ALSO, have you listened to “Politically Direct” before? I’ve listened a couple times in the car, and thoroughly enjoyed David Bender’s professionalism and long history in politics, which helps his interviews. He’s quite mainstream, but he puts on an organized, well-paced show.
I’m having problems gettign to that link you posted.. it’s just referring me to the main live radio feed. Was this an archoved link or did I miss the window?
You want to go to the live link. The show is live in about 2-3 minutes.
Or just go to http://www.airamericaradio.com and click on LISTEN.
thanks Susan !
never listened before, so thanks for the tip. Also was glad to catch RFK on Ring of Fire. These shows are very low-key but the ideas put forward are great. Springer and Mike Malloy = lots of belly-aching but no remedies provided.
I’m looking forward to more politicians and pundits discussing a political strategy for Iraq. Anne-Marie Slaughter has got one. What do you think?
Jon Stewart’s on holiday this coming week as well. What shall we do??
“Liberal Ralph Neas of the People for the American Way has a war room with 75 phone lines in place, and conservative Sean Rushton of Committee for Justice has legal experts in hand to provide commentary, the [NYT] said.”
Science Daily
I saw a clip this morning of Boyden Gray whining on FOX that PFAW have been doing their thing for a very long time, so this fight is going to cost a lot of money (parapharsing). From what I’ve learned about Mr Gray, he’s clearly setting himself and his group up as some sort of victim – which is BS since he’s been behind the scenes influencing decisions for a very long time. He’s setting himself up as a martyr already. My, my, how those conservatives suffer! Pack your bags – you’re going on a guilt trip.
Thanks for the heads up. I’m currently kind of watching Blitzer’s “hey I’m in Iraq reporting on how wonderful things are” piece. Oh – and the news that Abu Gonzales is visiting the country too makes me desire some sanity, so I’ll definitely listen to Harry Reid.
I don’t know squat about these potential nominees – except for Abu, but I was glad to hear Senator Kennedy say on the teevee this morning that if Bush wants a fight, he’ll get one. IOW, Bush ought to be considering his next steps very carefully. But, he’s so impudent, I doubt very much that he gives a damn what anyone else thinks.
“unannounced”. Over two years after we pulled down the statue of Saddam, no senior US official can enter Iraq except by sneaking in, in the dead of night.
It’s so funny how the conservatives are hysterical about him being nominated for the SC.
btw, the Egyptian envoy to Iraq who was kidnapped yesterday is dead. AP news announced it on Air America Radio.
That says it all, doesn’t it? I can’t believe he even had the audacity to go there.
Is Abu Gonzales going to visit Abu Ghraib?
He should do a surprise inspection just see if they are still following the policies outlined in his torture memos.
No doubt about it…
He’s wonderful. I have a crush on him.
a liar and seems to believe Durbin shoudn’t have apologized.
What’s the buzz about him possibly running for prez in 2008? Can you imagine a Reid/Clinton ticket? That’d be something.
I didn’t know there was a buzz. I mentioned it in a post here one day and no one responded so I figured it wasn’t an idea to which people would respond.
He’d be a great president. I have no doubt.
I didn’t know there was a buzz.
That’s why I asked about it. I don’t usually pay attention to the diaries/comments about potential candidates, so I wasn’t sure if people had been talking about Reid.
He’s a plain speaking statesman and I have no doubt he has the qualities of a very good president. He’s a throwback to some of your previous mid-century presidents and has the ability to generate trust by a majority of Americans, IMHO.
Good interviews of both men by the host. Thanks for linking to this, Susan. My sanity has been restored.
Truly! I wish he were on every day for an hour.
It’s amazing what he knows from being around politics … when Harry Reid mentioned how nice Rep. Gonzales was to him when Harry was a Captiol Bldg cop, David Bender corrected Reid’s comment that the Rep. was a Democrat .. saying Gonzales had switched to the GOP later on. (How many people know that.)
