I just posted a Guantanamo update diary and got caught up in the articles I found via google. How are you doing Diane? Hopefully your weekend was restful!
I just got back from a lovely party for my grandaughter and ex husband, they have close birthdays. It was in the club house at one of my daughters apartment and it was just like a cabin in the mountains, in the midst of all kinds of lovely trees, streams and pools…and a giant stone fireplace.
Up stairs in a giant loft overlooking the great room, with bar, were 5 billiard tables.
I took lots of pics and hope that I can get them ready to post soon.
great fun! I have spent the weekend very relaxed. I needed to re-charge my battery as it’s been running below normal levels for the past couple of weeks. Now I’m just watching hurricane news and blogging with my feet up on the couch.
About to start my day here in Finland. Just enjoying B&B = breakfast and blogging. Woke up early due to the fact that five crows as large as cats were noisily squabbling at the barbecue for some left overs from last night that I forgot to bring in,
Couple of meetings in town this morning, and then the rest of the day at a studio recording the voices for a new ‘Pirate’ computer game. Quite a few game development companies in Finland – you may have heard of ‘Max Payne’ (Remedy Entertainment)?
I guess it’ll be “early morning” in another minute or two…ah ha…as I type, the Great Horned Owl on my bird clock just “hooted”…must be morning now.
I’m heading to bed after this post…had to do a little wind down. No lovely parties for me, today. My goodness, I actually just had one of the most…hmmm…how to describe it succinctly…one of the most flabbergastingly (like that new word?…feel free to steal it! 😉 frustrating and jaw dropping experience.
The short story is…I was a camp director and worked with kids the first half of my life to date and would call myself a “campfire expert”. I took a gig tonight to provide a campfire experience for a kids program…only an hour…piece of cake, thinks I…NOT!!
I knew it would be difficult crowd considering the exclusive club I was going to, but I thought I’d still be able to “win over” a good chunk of the kids. Well, what I walked into was total chaos. My campfire leader cohort and I just wanted to turn and walk away…but I had made a commitment I felt obliged to attempt to follow through with.
We have both made recreation careers out of working with kids, and that was one of the best displays of how NOT to work with kids I’ve ever seen. Because of the location (which I don’t really want to describe/name), the evening’s experience did nothing but solidify every negative stereotype of kids from very wealthy families…it was awful. I would literally fear for my child’s well being if I was a parent and saw the environment of this evening. But then again, I didn’t just pay a crapload of money to plunk my kid down somewhere for the night either. I guess that isn’t completely fair…there was ONE parent there who participated in the “campfire” program.
I won’t bore y’all with further details, but oh brother…I needed a beer to wind down from that. As my cohort and I joked, well that was the easiest – and hardest – wad of cash I’ve ever made running a campfire. And if nothing else, it’s a helluva story! Now, the beer is doing its trick and its time for bed as others may be getting ready to start theirs!
Ah…if I can just make it through the week, I’ve got a 3+ week vacation coming up! Yipee!! 🙂
I think you have come up with the best term yet “Kososvered” it almost sound spiritual…
So you made it to the cafe, good, and now the famous line I always say, Tell Us About YOu……
The actual welcome wagon is down the street right now for repairs after the weekend, so for now you may use this format to tell us..
Long tradition on this site…
Zander, may I introduce you to the wonders of Camel Turkish Gold? Here, try one. Robust…worth 2 Camel Lights.
No folks, I’m not here shilling for Camel. In fact, had I known the industry props up GOPers so, I would have never picked ’em up. Guess I just wasn’t all that informed at age 9 (pre-Internet and all)
As to the no ashing on the floor edict, I’m afraid I’m going to be a tough case. I spent a couple of years in Morocco, where the ashtray is the café floor. I’ll do my best to conform to the established policy.
Yessir, thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot to do that, but I was preoccupid while I was reading her diary about the training going on in London at the time of the bombings. Interesting, Veeeerry interesting.
Yeah, the Scribe household is up early too…actually, the usual weekday rising, since the spouse leaves for work at about 5:15am. I’ve already made the bed (yay!) and will go ahead and shower soon, to try and cool off a bit (it’s feeling warm already) and to get less stinky.
I’ve got the window and sliding door open to capture what little cool air there is. 🙁 Told the spouse either no hot meals or he’s taking me out to dinner for the next few nights; it’s going to be too damn hot to cook. Will probably go by the store and get some grilled chicken tonight so I can do chicken Caesar salad tomorrow; at least that doesn’t require cooking. Might do something in the slow cooker too, since that doesn’t put out as much heat.
I might try to escape for a few hours today, maybe to an air-conditioned mall or library where I can take a book with me and just mellow out. The spouse wants me to read the Harry Potter books, so we picked up the paperbacks this past weekend. I enjoyed the first one, but had trouble getting into the subsequent ones for some reason. I’ll give them another try. The pool here is going to be packed, I’m sure, and I can’t stay in for 10 hours…
Yummy – grilled chicken salad….I was pondering what to cook for dinner on my way out the door this morning. Great idea…the local market has great rotisserie chicken and it’s on my way home tonight.
Be cool and enjoy the day Cali – it’s a little cooler up here across the G.G. Bridge.
Good morning everyone,
Today looks like a scorcher + I have no desire to go to work. Ah well, better go since I have no good excuses. See you all later.
I’ve got cases of champagne stacked on ice,
In anticipation of a celebration that would be oh, so nice,
I think I’ll even order some caviar, to boot,
Waiting to see Rove, frog marching in a bright orange jumpsuit!
We should have a collection of photos – our mugs on each of our patios, roofs, porches, etc… I noticed that BooMan just recently posted a picture of the t-shirt – maybe some of us with photographic skill could help him with advertising pics…
I sit here in pain and exhaustion: We just returned from a quick trip to check on our house down in Roswell, GA. You know, the one that hasn’t gotten an offer in 7 months. It’s been 6 weeks since we last were there and we had been repeatedly assured by our real estate agent (who lives across the street) that all was well. Ha!
When we opened the front door, we were knocked back on our heels by a wall of mold spores. I’m deathly allergic but, hey, what’s that sound? We rush in to discover a river on the kitchen floor flowing into the laundry room. Hubby opens the cabinet doors below the sink and water sprays out on him until he can turn off the nozzle. Somehow the water purifier exploded from the bottom… hmmm… plastic fatigue?
We spent 8 hours driving down but the adrenaline surge of disaster spurred us into action. Hubby grabbed the wet vac from the garage while I fished out the masks I bought back during the anthrax mail scare. Oh, and someone had turned off the ac, so we’re hopping and mopping in 95 degree heat. All the pea traps under all the sinks had gone dry and vile smells were wafting up from the sewers.
Our agent, who took great pride in telling us that she was mowing our front lawn, failed to mention that her blades were set at a 1″ height and that she had succeeded in scalping whole sections down to brown clay. The back yard, on the other hand, had reverted to jungle. Out in the garage, we found the trash from six weeks earlier that she had said she put at the curb for pick-up.
When she came over Saturday morning and declared that she had just been in the house two days previously and everything was fine, I spat, “Bullshit!” She promptly left and didn’t show her face the rest of the weekend.
You may all marvel at the restraint that prevented us from firing her on the spot. But, we are so desperate to sell that the thought of having the house off-the-market for even a day or two constrained our emotional response. Today I’m making phone calls about transferring to another agent…
So we worked until midnight Friday, from 6am until 10pm Saturday and 6am til 10am Sunday then drove back 8 hours. Gawd, I feel like I’ve been run over by a bulldozer. The house is now clean of dust and mold, smells great, the back yard looks presentable and we’ve arranged for Hubby’s son to house-sit, maintain and monitor the place — and restore the front lawn to its previous green lushness.
Last night the agent called and talked so fast we couldn’t get a word in edge-wise. She claims she has four possible buyers lined up and one of them — at least, one of them, will come thru in the next week or two. “So, don’t give up on me! I’m working hard to sell your house! Give me two more weeks and it will be a done deal!” Since she never let us finish a sentence in response, Hubby emailed her afterwards and stated, “You have until Aug. 1st, then we’ll be getting a new agent…”
This morning I’m wondering, should we have fired her already? What happens when you change agents? Does it throw off possible buyers?
Poor baby!!! Glad you checked in, btw, because a few people were wondering where you were and if you were okay.
You’d certainly have been justified in firing her on the spot. On the other hand, she’s now going to be the most motivated real estate agent in Georgia. I kinda like your solution.
Fingers crossed that this turns out to be a blessing in disguise if it prods her into a sale.
It’s so cool to think I was missed. You guys really are my circle of friends these days and I don’t know what I would do without you. Did I share the good news? I start work next Saturday as a craft instructor at the local Michael’s. I’ll be demonstrating how easy and fun it is to create faux marble. Hopefully, this is how I’ll finally find some face-to-face friends. Couple of weeks ago, I actually chased a woman into the Best Buy because she had Kerry/Edwards and Impeach Bush stickers on her car. I chickened out because approaching a stranger and saying, “Hey, I like your bumper stickers. I’m new in town. Can we be friends?” felt really lame.
I wish I could attend your class. It’s cool that you know how to do that stuff well enough to teach it.
Too funny about chasing down a potential friend. I actually did stuff like that when I was a 38-year-old new mom and none of my friends, quite sanely, had little kids. I’d keep my eyes out for kids my son liked and if they had nice moms I’d approach them and make friends. The Stalker Mommy. Okay, I only did that twice, and one turned out boring and the other is still one of my best friends.
it when I say, “Can we stop by Michael’s for a couple of minutes?”, because he knows we’ll be out of there a couple of hours later with a large bag or two of yarn. 🙂
Is it hot in here, or is it me? The spouse just called; he had to change his transit physical again, because someone called in to say he was involved in a minor accident, and he has no frickin’ idea what they’re talking about. Still, he has to fill out a small mountain of paperwork, so it would be tight getting to the clinic with his blood pressure intact. I could tell he was upset and nervous; he was talking really fast. I had to tell him to calm down, go do his paperwork, and come home.
Monday morning – working on getting motivated. Big deadlines this week…but the good news is the boss is at a conference all week!
So with very few interruptions I should be able to get everything done with less stress.
Weekend was great – home alone until late Sunday. I managed to get all those annoying things done I’ve been putting off…cobwebs down from the ceiling, vacuum under the furniture, toss 2 baskets of “stuff”…finally the weather changed enough to wash and pack away the last of the winter sweaters. This spring/summer SF weather has been atrocious…finally warm and sunny.
The view out my window, beyond the houses across the street, is approximately:
It’s another of nature’s little Californians-Go-Home days up here. As usual, it’s not raining hard enough for an umbrella or raincoat if you’re walking short distances. It’s as much mist as drizzle.
So again I need to heat up my bathroom to 95F to make it dry enough to finish tweaking some wooden implements that have been settling inside my insulated desert box for shipment into the SW.
Somebody on TV is saying something about things being “hard.”
Well I guess I should start off with a large mocha latte. Don’tcha just love MOndays? Ok I didn’t say that. It should be an interesting week since one of my bosses is in Arizona this week. His poor 89 yr. old mother is very sick (Cancer they think). The other boss hates being here and has been gone for like an hour and a half now.
Oh well, I Love my job, I Love my job. It was so hot over the weekend we didn’t even take the puppy to the dog park for his weekend walk. He sure wanted to go but I didn’t want him to have a heat stroke. The wildfire here in the state is getting really big and thousands of folks have been evacuated. No loss of life or structures yet. Let’s hope it stays that wasy.
I forgot to get something for breakfast this morning so tummy is talking to me. I have a sudden urge for bisquits and gravey. Now that sounds good. I hope the boss come back so I can have lunch today. Ok enough complaining. Have a great day all.
I am just getting going but I just wanted to drop in and say hi to infidel and Sjct, glad to hear from you both and will write more later.
Hi also to everyone else, I will be back in a few.
from the Oklahoma panhandle. It’s hot and dusty outside, and airconditioned and dusty inside!
Now that Skippy is almost at the million visits mark, I’m announcing my drive to reach the million mark at my blog by its third blogversary. I figure I only have 966,000 to go over 13 months. Should be a cakewalk! 😉
Well hi there! Late as always to anything fun – even for the first time 🙂
Sally – nice to see you! I think we have the same deadlines of course. The ones which keep me from playing in any blogs or chats at all this month. Weee!! Happy Year End Close!
San Diego is beautiful today though I see we are due for a muggy heat wave beginning Wednesday – ick!
My short intro is that I still mostly hang at Kos, but I check in over here a few times a week. More often now that many of my favorite ex-kossacks are here. Will try to grab my first cuppa joe over here in the am.
I’m bringing in a temp for 6 weeks since I couldn’t find a qualified person for long term…just someone to do some of the year end Excel sheets for the auditors! Ah a respite – kind of….
Come on by and sit for spell….nice place over here!
“in a short natural phrase…” Help! I’m trapped in the depths of a completely frustrating voice activated customer service system. Who in the world ever imagined that this was a good idea? I gave up yesterday when I found myself arguing with a recorded voice – in french – ‘service de custom.. um customaire – en anglais!!! <whimper> sil vous plait???’ It was sad…
Zander do we need Keanu Reeve to come and get you out of the Matrix, that you seem to have embedded yourself in, in more ways than one, perhaps the tin foil hat is getting a ‘schoch’ tight.
Otherwise what are you up to, haven’t chatted with you lately…
No need for Neo – I’ll be self-extricating in a couple of days.
I’m actually in the last frantic pre-trip days – I’ll be disappearing soon – venturing beyond civilization – way beyond. No details for anyone, but I promise I’ll post some pics when I get back…
And with that tease.. I must run now – much to do…
I’ll be far, far beyond connectivity… no laptop – no cell phone for that matter…just blessed peace, wilderness and silence – oh, and bears – I hear there are bears…
I hope you have great time, though it will be a sadder place around here without you. However, if you come back with a picture of a bear drinking a Molsen. . .
I really hope I don’t find myself photographing bears though… I just picked up some extra batteries and CF cards today, but… I’m hoping for dramatic landscapes – not wildlife… oh, boy… I wonder if I’m prepared for this…
Zander must be going on the shuttle to the space station, fits the description exactly, she must be an astronaut…..Now we know…..She will be watching us from space!!!!!!
omg, that’s it, Diane! Further out than Denali, she said, and what could that be but space? Let’s all wave at the sky at an appointed time. I could paint ZANDER in big white letters on my driveway.
We really must do a live blog on the day of lift off…
Do you want to help….OUr very own zander going up in space!!!!!!!Do you think she will tell us if she see’s any UFO’s.
on the 15th, at eleven hundred hours Greenwich Mean Time…. everyone wave… but no driveway painting please – I have quite enough to photograph..I’d hate to miss someone’s art work 😉
Any Diet Pepsi caffiene free back there? Whew! What a day. Mondays can be so brutal. Hope you all had a relaxing weekend. Sounds like Diane was out kickin up her heels til the wee hours. Welcome to SanDiegoDem. I think we exchanded comments before. Aren’t you over Escondido way? ANyway…good to see you again. Ahhh, thanks for the Diet Pepsi and drinks for everyone on me!!
Yes, the wee old hour of 10 PM when my homing radar comes on strong…
You found a diet Pepsi, who brought that in here, I thought we only stocked Classic Coke, the best soft drink in the whole world…
How are you doing today, and did you have a good weekend…
I actually got almoooost, all of my dishes done today and I am so happy about that, they were kinda! piled up..
HOw’s our weather down there, it was only about 75 here today, but seemed hotter.
Diane, Diane, Diane…we all know that Coke products with any name on them taste like dog pee…lol! Hey, each to their own right? Weather down here has been horrible. June gloom has once again run into July. The family tried to do beach time over the weekend and it was chilly and overcast. I had to wear a sweatshirt. I miss Kauai right now..lol.
i don’t usually try to hype my own diaries. in fact, i’ve only just now posted my first diary at boo. but i need some help getting it noticed.
it’s not about me. it’s about teri knight, a woman whose children were murdered and buried in an unmarked grave. she has some clues as to where they might be, but she needs help to find them.
this isn’t some snopes-like hoax. it’s a real, legitimate news story, with links. please, if you live, or have lived, anywhere near I-80 from penns. to iowa, or know someone who does, please check out my diary:
Helloooooooo!!!!!!Is anyone still up in here…..
Zander, Manee,,,,help, I am all alone!!!!!!
I’m here! ((HUG))

hmmm, pretty dayum quiet in here…(I’ll just have my coffee and a Camel)
<silent and invisible waitress> poof!
I’ll have the same please maam :O)
But I think you two can share the pack…
except, of course, neither caffeine nor nicotine and tar are poisons…
Hi There,
Just Kosovered to BMT. May I share a celebratory smoke w/ you?
I think you have come up with the best term yet “Kososvered” it almost sound spiritual…

I would have been great if I had spelled that right, Kosovered, it should have been.
Where every voice is heard and discouraging words and ratings are rarely given.
Hi there – I just read your diary, and wanted to add my welcome, and a warning…
It gets a little smoky around here when people are stressed, but that’s never an excuse for dropping ashes on the floor – bayprairie doesn’t like it.
Zander, may I introduce you to the wonders of Camel Turkish Gold? Here, try one. Robust…worth 2 Camel Lights.

Good morning infidelpig. It looks like you and me are ordering from the same menu today.
g’morn’n, yeppers, and it’s a wonderful menu, psssst,,let’s be sure and tip the server, I like it when their quiet, and prompt ; )
Yessir, thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot to do that, but I was preoccupid while I was reading her diary about the training going on in London at the time of the bombings. Interesting, Veeeerry interesting.
Well, off to work. You folks have a fine day.
have a great day, and may peace be with you.

Good morning everyone,
Today looks like a scorcher + I have no desire to go to work. Ah well, better go since I have no good excuses. See you all later.
I’m getting ready for work now myself. I’m going to stop in at the hospital on my way — so I’d better start moving now.
Diane– Thanks for opening the room so early, I love having it here when I wake up! And looking so nice — what a treat, Thanks again.
I’ve got cases of champagne stacked on ice,
In anticipation of a celebration that would be oh, so nice,
I think I’ll even order some caviar, to boot,
Waiting to see Rove, frog marching in a bright orange jumpsuit!
I’ll break out the 20 year old single malt for that celebration!
I’ll add a local Brie and SF sourdough to go with the caviar!
May I recommend that everyone orders a Booman Tribune mug to sip that champagne out of? … we can all toast together and post pictures of our parties…
<I’m just giddy about it already…>
Oh! I’m so excited-my mug has been shipped already (just got the email), it might arrive in time for the champagne-drinking celebration…
We should have a collection of photos – our mugs on each of our patios, roofs, porches, etc… I noticed that BooMan just recently posted a picture of the t-shirt – maybe some of us with photographic skill could help him with advertising pics…

I’d keep my eyes out for kids my son liked and if they had nice moms I’d approach them and make friends. The Stalker Mommy. Okay, I only did that twice, and one turned out boring and the other is still one of my best friends.
I have met more wonderful people by talking to them about bumperstickers and t-shirts!
Check out your local DFA website…Google: Democracy for America, nearest big city or county
A good friend moved to an out of the way location and found a DFA less than 20 minutes away…
it when I say, “Can we stop by Michael’s for a couple of minutes?”, because he knows we’ll be out of there a couple of hours later with a large bag or two of yarn.
I’d better be extra nice to him tonight…
Monday morning – working on getting motivated. Big deadlines this week…but the good news is the boss is at a conference all week!
So with very few interruptions I should be able to get everything done with less stress.
Weekend was great – home alone until late Sunday. I managed to get all those annoying things done I’ve been putting off…cobwebs down from the ceiling, vacuum under the furniture, toss 2 baskets of “stuff”…finally the weather changed enough to wash and pack away the last of the winter sweaters. This spring/summer SF weather has been atrocious…finally warm and sunny.
Time to stop and smell the flowers
The view out my window, beyond the houses across the street, is approximately:
It’s another of nature’s little Californians-Go-Home days up here. As usual, it’s not raining hard enough for an umbrella or raincoat if you’re walking short distances. It’s as much mist as drizzle.
So again I need to heat up my bathroom to 95F to make it dry enough to finish tweaking some wooden implements that have been settling inside my insulated desert box for shipment into the SW.
Somebody on TV is saying something about things being “hard.”
The Sound toys with vacationers and new residents. Views 2 hours apart.
God, I’d forgotten all about those things! What fun. I remember doing them and hoping for the big chocolate cake at the edge of the table.
Peace to everyone
I’m getting a breather starting tomorrow.
Better luck today… I guess sometimes I do learn..
I must run now – much to do…
Have a spectacular break and we will see you when you get back. I hope it’s an adventure. They are always so much fun. You will be missed for sure.
Thank you, that’s so sweet…
It’s sure to be an adventure – and I’ll no doubt come back raving about it. I may even get to one of those rarely ventured to places….
Away? You’re going away?!
Zander, NOOOOOoooooooo!
You’re taking your laptop and a cable connector to your mobile, right? Please?
Don’t go!
I’ll be far, far beyond connectivity… no laptop – no cell phone for that matter…just blessed peace, wilderness and silence – oh, and bears – I hear there are bears…
That sounds wonderful, really. I hope you have a wonderful time!
Please check your email Zander!!!!
Sorry Diane – just checked now…
Denali? Wilderness, isolated, bears. . .
I hope you have great time, though it will be a sadder place around here without you. However, if you come back with a picture of a bear drinking a Molsen. . .
Denali? No.. further… 😉
We really must do a live blog on the day of lift off…
Do you want to help….OUr very own zander going up in space!!!!!!!Do you think she will tell us if she see’s any UFO’s.
on the 15th, at eleven hundred hours Greenwich Mean Time…. everyone wave… but no driveway painting please – I have quite enough to photograph..I’d hate to miss someone’s art work 😉
Live blogging the lift off, absolutely, Diane. We should live stream it.
See, zander, this is what happens when people try to keep secrets around here!
Okay, I’m off for one last go round the blogsphere, and to bed. Night, all.
