[From the diaries by susanhu. A sound project for us to take on.] I believe there is a constitutional aspect of the Brown fiasco which has been overlooked, which is that the Senate’s advise and consent faculty cannot operate when they are given false information about nominees.
I think this could rise to the level of an impeachable offense, IF there is a demonstrable pattern of the White House nominating people with false statements in their resumes.
Connected with this observation is a large project which I believe should be undertaken ASAP. …
The Brown nomination, on top of the Kerik nomination, show that the White House either doesn’t vet people thoroughly at ALL, or it colludes in lying to the Senate about nominees.
What I suggest is that people take screen shots of the official biographies of top Bush nominees ASAP, because these may be changed, if the White House is made nervous by the Brown fiasco.
Here are some places to look:
- WH nominations
- Google “White House Personnel Announcement” and you’ll get long list of the announcements (which come with description of background of nominee [this was a suggestion of “demmefatale” at Kos).
- usemb.se. It’s also possible that older versions of bios may be at our overseas embassies; perhaps one can find discrepancies.
Last thought: Maybe this diary should be “Double super-secret” background.. but I don’t know how to do that. Oh well.
Here are the steps as I see them:
Get a list of nominees to check: There will probably be about 200 names we want to look at.
Take screen shots of the official biographies, and also look for online resumes. Once this project gets going, assuming there is interest, we should probably collect that information at a separate place.
Start checking!
Let’s not forget the members of Congress, such as Senator Liebermann, who failed to conduct effective oversight of this joker.
Right on, Brother Johnson.
Say, didn’t you mean to type Loserman? :):)

(Sorry, this isn’t relevant to the fine ideas above, but I can’t help myself.)

I remember when Adu Graib broke and all Loserman could talk about was the unconnected atrocities in Fallujah that happened after the torture. He has belly-danced for the neocons since the 2000 elections. That guy makes me sick.
this latest outrage would also be a playable way to put the hammer to Roberts’ nomination as well as any other rightwing apparachiks Bush tries to pollute the courts with. “We’ve seen that resumes this administration supplies for its nominees cannot be taken as fact. This nomination to our highest court will require intense scrutiny and full disclosure of all requested documents if the administration still hopes for a timely decision by the Senate.”
I’m really sick of this bullshit about how urgent it is that the SC vacancies be filled ASAP. It doesn’t matter how many “justices” there are. They’ll make their mostly corrupt, incestuous decisions and the rest of us will have to live with them either way. As we hurtle into 3rd-worldhood at breakneck speed, having 7 or 8 or 9 “justices” is the least of our urgencies.
We’ve seen that resumes this administration supplies for its nominees cannot be taken as fact. This nomination to our highest court will require intense scrutiny and full disclosure of all requested documents if the administration still hopes for a timely decision by the Senate.”
THAT ought to be on the tip of every Senate Dem’s tongues right now
Here’s a very interesting point raised by Josh Marshall at TPM:
This sounds remarkably like the lack of investigation that went into giving WH press credentials to JeffJim GannonGuckert.
Not a lack of oversight, IMO. It’s balls-out lying and cover-up. This is why I call this impeachable.
The integrity of the constitutional relationships between the government branches is destroyed if one branch deliberately lies to another on a routine basis.
This is a major, major violation, and in nature it is the same as the President’s misleading Congress about Iraq.
BoringDem, you have a great idea here.
We should support you.
The problem with having a great idea is that people will expect you to be in charge. But, if you’re willing, use diaries here — you can post as many a day as you want — and we will help you if we can.
If we’re not helping you, rattle my cage.
Susan,
Do you have some model Kos project I could look at for organizational tips?
The first step is to collect a list of names to look at. I might be able to do that by myself.
Once that is accomplished, there will be a vast amount of work getting various bios, checking and cross-checking information.
You’re right: I think this is worth doing, and I will do my part here to run this.. but it will take me a day or two to figure out how that will happen.
If you need any help I’d be more than happy to help out in any way I can. I have no idea what’s needed at this stage or how you want it organized but you can find me here to get in touch with me.
Go for IT!
I’m having a hard time figuring out why any of the democrats take anything at face value that bushco says and when presented with someones resume that at least one of them didn’t do some kind of check on what was stated in resume. I mean that’s simply basic to hiring anyone. That’s what freaken resumes are for, for the person hiring to check out.
