We all saw brinnainne’s post about possible military recruiting at the Astrodome and awaited some type of corroboration. Well, via Crooks and Liars and Capitol Buzz it appears non other than the Wall Street Journal has confirmed this to be the case.
Ten U.S. Army recruiters are offering volunteer help for Katrina vicitms at Houston’s Astrodome. But the recruiters, struggling to keep enlistment up during Iraq war, are also available with options for the jobless. “Our intent is to approach the evacuees at the right time for them,” says Army spokesman Douglas Smith. [Quote is from WSJ article]
I guess they just want these poor people to die in one Gulf or another…
And I wonder when the “right time” might be. Perhaps when their $2000 debit cards run out…
Did everyone see this horrific first-hand account of the evacuee “detention camps”? (also found at Crooks and Liars)
Thank you, Planet B for this follow-up!
I was so hoping(foolishly I know)that the whole recruiting thing was wrong…having it confirmed however is no surprise. All these ratbastard motherfuckers are so low a snake could piss on them.
Taking shell shocked kids and recruiting them should be criminal and it’s really sick.
It is very troubling that the military is talking confused, traumatized people into “signing on.” This is so like bush. bush’s war on poverty becomes a bigger metaphor every minute.
