All right. There seems to be enough interest. I’d say “Operation Yellow Feather / Froggy Pond” should be a go. But I think we should have something ready to go to the web by noon Monday.
After listening to all your thoughtful posts, here is what I suggest. On noon Monday we release a diary on Booman that describes our protests. It shows examples of the chickenhawk art we want to send. It has a couple of pdf (that’s adobe, right) files that can be printed off with the art. It provides addresses and fax numbers for Schmidt, Bubp and Hastert (just because he is their leader). It explains the story briefly, and asks the reader to print off a form (or make their own creative chickenhawk), personalize it and mail or fax it to these public servant cowards. Also, it asks that they send a copy to their local media with a press/release letter, to publicize our cause. Selected Bootribbers then go out and post / share our work on the blogosphere. Somebody with a good name posts it at the orange place. Maybe we have Winger post it on My Left Wing, etc. We of course notify our own anchor, Oberman. And sit back and hope we hear about our efforts on the nightly news.
All right. That’s a little grandiose. But a guy who can draw as good as me has to dream. Still, there is a lot to do before noon tomorrow, if we are going to hold to that deadline. I’m going to list the tasks I think we need to get done. Please volunteer if you can do one or two or a hundred of these things.
- Recommend this.
- Unrecommend the original.
- Can play with any of the images using photoshop, so they are one page size, with the propert logos, sayings.
- Convert any or all of the images to pdf that is downloadable from diary.
- Get permission to use any of the images below.
- Able to contact a source at progressive blog or site that can publicize our protest (or in the case of dKos, who can diary it and get on the list).
I’m sure I’m missing stuff. Feel free to help me amend the list. A swarm is such a flexible thing. And a terrible thing to waste.
Here are the images that we will use tomorrow, pending approval of by a source.
First and foremost, my beautiful artwork:
The very popular, but still needing clearance on use:
The simple, yet cowardly elegant (and still needing clearance I think):
The classic, and most likely to get us sued unless we have clearance:
And of course, we’d still like to see others.
So. Do we have a swarm? Or what?
chicken hawks. I’m in for that!
That will be an option. Provided we assure that the graphic above can be put in a printable (pdf) format, and someone can assure me we’ve got permission to use it.
cold yellow chickens running around this winter.
Alice would like the option of sending an actual feather. She provided this link for those who would want to purchase a yellow feather to send. I like the idea very much, but want to make the protest as easy and fast as possible. So we can provide the feather option in addition to the “print and send” option. Then they can all get a pack of 10 yellow feathers for future “Operation Yellow Feather” actions, so we can keep hectoring these McCarthyist cowards.
BostonJoe,
I stole the image from an Australian website and photoshopped it a bit, so we definitely don’t have permission.
Well. We’ve got Tracy’s feather. If someone can color it yellow and slap it on a printable PDF file we can post. That will work. We just need an IT department. 🙂
Here’s a dirty old feather one of my ducks left lying about. I just scanned it, and colored it yellow.
A larger image (about 8 1/2 inches high) is available at: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/3416/yellowfeather2wu.jpg
To save either image to your computer, right click on the image, and then click “Copy Image.”
Thanks for that. I threw a header on it that said, “A Chickenhawk Feather, For You, Because I Thought You Might Have Lost a Few While Accusing Rep. Murtha of Cowardice.”
Then I pdf’d it and sent it to mlr, our designated server tech. We are so in business.
Have I missed it, or has anyone made the connection to the book/movie “The Four Feathers. In which a young British man was given four white feathers for his supposed cowardice. And than spent much of the rest of his life trying to do something heroic for each of the people who gave him a feather – so that they would take it back.
You are the first to make this connection. And you are welcome to make a Four Feather pdf for us if you would like. Thanks for the enrichment.
Here’s the Four Feathers motif (as requested), combined with the unavoidable phallic suggestiveness of the feather shape.
I think it’s elegant actually, when printed out. And that it would make lovely stationary.
The 81/2″ x 11″ full-sheet image is here: http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/9867/4feathers4qj.jpg
Keres,
I didn’t get this image until this morning. I tried to cut and paste it, as I had done the others, and send it to mlr, but it wouldn’t work for me. Said image was too large for my WordPerfect (which I’ve been using).
I would still try to include it on the fly this morning. But things are hectic here. I’d suggest that you try to type some slogan on it, and then mail it directly to mlr at mlr701@gmail.com with a note asking that it be put on the server. If it gets on the server, I will try to include it later in day.
I like it also. It would make nice stationary. 🙂
and would love to print out a bit of stationery for myself!!
Let your duck know that it gave this feather up to a great cause! lol
Traditionally, Three white feathers have been used to silently indict one for cowardice… but yellow will do.
More enrichment. Thanks. Feel free to chime in with pdf file for sending on this theme if you would like.
do with it as you will…ctrl click to open full size image
Peace
but I did sketch this out quick and scan it in. Anybody who can photoshop this up have at it….I don’t care what happens to it!
That is an awesome place to start. Have at it talented people. Someone paint that bad boy yellow and put it in a format that tens (or millions) of Internet users can download and send. Yee-haw! Way to go Military Tracy. A true patriot. And artiste. And no chickenhawk.
That’s what I’m talking about people. Somebody getting involved. Makin’ the world a better place. A vision of what they want to bo.
A better world is possible. One not fit for chickenhawks to ever squeak their squawks without full knowledge that we will rain it down on them.
I’ll paint it yellow and do whatever else ya’ll want done to it — word slogans??
I will save it as both a jpg and a pdf and ya’ll tell me who to send the files to — don’t have a sever from which anyone can download such off of, but can do the photoshopping — just need the image file.
Do whatever too…..it’s a sketch so the line isn’t always solid. I love you CAT!!!!!
before my spouse despouses me!
thanks, sweetie — did you send it to me?
I can’t seem to copy it down from your post above.
And your spouse will never “despouse” you, I’m pretty sure about this!!
😉
Hugs to him and the kiddos!
during Crawford….your college email address.
LOVE LOVE LOVE,
Tracy
Thanks Binnainne. Send me the files when you get them done. I will try to figure out what to do with them once you have them done. Any old slogan will do. Something chickenhawk related, or course. Take your pick. Thank you for help. You too Tracy. Don’t worry about the despousing. It’ll never happen. And even it it were to, I heard it is painless.
’cause a) I wanted to maintain the handbrushed look of Tracy’s original sketch and b) I am a perfectionist about things that help me to NOT write my dissertation LOLOLO, er, anyway — ya’ll help me with the slogans — I can make several, so pick your faves!
HMMMM?
How about a game that can be printed out to take to parties:
Pin the YELLOW FEATHER on the neo-chicken.
Various neo-chickens pictures and a yellow feather would be easily printed off to make some nice versions of the game.
Just a childish thought of the top of my head. But a great way to make fun of them at your next party.
I think this is great too! lol
Me caveman, go ug… Grunt!
That is an excellent idea. A merchandising angle for our young enterprise. I dig the game. Take it in for you kids holiday parties at school, etc.
All it takes is a pic of your favourite neo-chicken and along the bottom of the page squeeze in a yellow feather that can be cut out.
Some tape to put the pic on the wall, and a thumb-tac and you have everything you need.
I was thinking it would be more effective as, say, a college party game as far as getting the message out. But it sure wouldn’t hurt for kids to learn at a young age who the “evil” people are! lol
Ya know, there has been a lot of $$ made of off spin-offs of Monopoly for various and sundry localized stuff, I’m not saying we go through Proctor and Gamble, but a board game of some kind, perhaps a satire of the infamous “deck” and/or a “trivial persuit” sort of game — “Not-So-Trivial Pursuit”???
We could work on a few different games, and get them out there. The sooner we could do something like this the better for ’06 and ’08 elections.
There is one thing about things like this. It imortalizes the neocons as the laughable fools that they are. Cemnting the public view of them in history as incompetent idiots, and traitors, if we do it right!
Fun and laughter is always a great way to spread an innocent propaganda message…
You are the official “Operation Yellow Feather” games czar. Have at it CT. I’ll buy one for Spaghetti Monster Day.
one much better than the one that I did….pin the anal cyst on the Chicken Hawk. Sometimes I just don’t think!
Ummm…. EWWWWW! lol
Maybe some little yellow feather magnets, suitable for automobile adornment….
Better than a yellow ribbon.
and see little yellow feathers on all the cars instead of those godawful ribbons!
All right. I’ve got a PDF file with image. I can use it from my desk. My question is, how does one post such a thing in a diary, so that a user can click on it and pull up the pdf/adobe file for their own use? Anyone know? You can e-mail me if you don’t feel like posting.
Also, just because I’ve got one image, do not stop your own work on other images. The more the merrier. We’ll find some good ones I’m sure.
If you mail it to me, I have server space available. I can put it there and send you the link.
I just sent first one. Will send more if they are sent to me. Also, if anyone is reading this and getting on the bandwagon late, feel free to photoshop Tracy’s feather, add any verbage you like, or make your own logo you would like to contribute, and send it as a pdf file to mlr701, who may just select it and put it on server for our final push tomorrow at noon.
Thanks to all participants.
I sent the yellow feather to Tracy in jpg and pdf formats — hopefully she’ll forward it to you — I didn’t have you email addy on the computer that I have photoshop on, so I just sent them to her.
Hav fun with this!
Okay. Thanks. Send her a note and tell her to pass the pdf on to mlr at his address in his comment. Good work.
We are so much more effecient than the current administration, I say.
Feather is a Good Idea if you Remember One Thing: Chickens Aren’t The Only Ones With Feathers!!
One of my Cocketials is Yellow and White AND Has Some Great Lookin Yellow Feathers!
The feather alone, with nothing to Explain, anyone would look at it and go ‘Huh!’.
The ‘Sheeple’ probably won’t get it even with an Explaination!!
Good point. What if you put “Sign up or shut up, chickenhawk” on the feather?
;>
Hmmm…
“Get plucked, chickenhawk”
“Pluck off, chickenhawk”
The variations are endless!
In instructions, I will tell folks to right their own message, and ask that they include Chickenhawk reference. Will even include a few suggestions, like your’s CG. That way folks can be creative, but our message will be connected at the same time.
We’ll include some instructions for them to personalize their mail with personal chicken hawk message. Good point. I would still like to use the Chickenhawk you provided as well. Can you mail me a pdf or mail it directly to mrl701? And can you get clearance by tomorrow noon from the site? Do you think?
but it’s not a very good Graphic, too Fuzzy, and in the Original there’s a Yellow Backround the link to the Adobe pdf:
CickenHawk
Now I did play with the Picture Graphic and have it with the Yellow Backround intact, but never having to use the Adobe Online Create A pdf they somehow switched my e-address to upper case and now it’s telling me that it takes about 24hrs. For The Changes I Made In Login Information To Catch Up, Go Figure!!
I’ll send you the worked up one, and again, I doubt if they’ll mind using it as long as you Attach the Home URL or the ChickenHawk Page URL, as this seems to cover copyright as long as you don’t sell it!!!!!
Well that link they gave me asks to sign in, let me see if I can get it sent to me for another link!!
They’re up. I didn’t presume to choose which was best….not my strong suit.

I will include some instructions to that effect. Good suggestion.
