The buffet looks lovely. I’ll just take some orange juice. We’re up early this morning so we can be at the N. American International Auto Show right when the doors open.
Have a great time. And pick out something nifty-looking, fast, goes in the snow, gets 50 mph, and comes in British racing green for me.
Don’t forget that it has to get at least 30 miles per gallon – city.
In my pipedream, it gets 50 mpg highway AND city.
It all looks so good I’ll take one of everything, maybe two. How is everyone today?
I was just thinking about you yesterday when I was at the librayr. Did you go find some scifi to read?
No I didn’t. Our town has a very small library and very little sci-fi. I put in a few request, but I doubt with their budget they will get it. So I will just re-read some of my old favorites. Thanks for asking.
Powells sells used books and their selection of used scifi paperbacks is very good. If you spend $50 (that would be more than 10 used paperbacks), the shipping is free.
Thanks Andi I’ll check that out.
Getting ready to head over to the Capitol to meet Tampopo.
We haven’t even decide how to go about this yet, but whatever form it takes I’m sure it’ll draw some attention ;o)
Just grabbing (grubbing) some coffee on my way out the door.
Peace frogs ;o)
As they say in Princess Bride, “Have fun storming the castle!” š
Heh — one of the best lines in a movie full of them.
I LOVE that movie…
Power to the People!! Go get em Super and Tampopo! I am with you and will be thinking of you all day!
Took the Greandleezy to Cirque Du Soleil last evening. It was fabulous and we always have great fun together. What a magnificent diversion for a couple of hours. She is the light of my life and why I keep fighting on. We must save our country. We owe it to the children.
Corteo is currently playing in San Jose — we’re thinking about going sometime during the run, and possibly taking mom-in-law while dad-in-law is recovering from his back surgery (she’s going to need a break).
Spouse and I were up till about 3am…cleaning. Hey, at least we accomplished quite a bit of it — got through the plastic boxes where I piled crap during the holidays, including my Christmas storage box, so I was finally able to get all the holiday stuff put away, now need to tote it out to the storeroom later. A bit too tired to go to dinner at the folks’, so we’ll probably just hang local (need to grocery shop, will probably fix a casserole or something for dinner). Need to do laundry so I have something to wear (all my jeans are dirty!), then we can get more work done.
Okay, time to get back stirring…or maybe just go back to sleep for an hour…
Sorry Cali, I did not respond yesterday, I was gone all day. Quidam was the Cirque we saw and as all the Cirques they are spellbinding. I did like Veriquebetter though.
Have a great day boys. Please bring back some photos.
(((((Supersoling and Tampopo!!)))))))))))

You
Both!
and as my daughter wrote to me when I was back there with you peeps…
“KNOW YOUR EXITS!”
and come back safe to your families and to us.
The SoCal meetup is a definite go for March 31st. Come one come all! I am waiting for pricing for rooms for two more hotels and then will throw up a diary. I am looking forward to seeing some of you again and meeting others for the first time. Have a great day my friends.
I’m highly tempted, depending on how the family health crises work out — the spouse mega-owes me a vacation away from him. š I will keep that date on the back burner…
Better send pics- DON’T make me come getcha!
What are you going to do today?
Good morning. Here’s your cuppa.
So far I haven’t found any wordpress plugins that enhance or change the registration process.
Can we tell when a user changed their passowrd?
Thanks for the coffee! email alert
Got it.
I feel so left out. :::sniff:::
SN!! Come and visit at Eat 4 Today — I miss you!
I’ve been lurking, katiebird. But I’ve been doing so crappy lately with my eating habits that I don’t really have anything to say. I am a quivering mass of dysfunction lately. Yay!
But, isn’t that the kind of thing we’re supposed to share with each other?
Would it help to have an Open Thread more often so that you don’t feel backed into making promises you aren’t ready to keep?
I let the Open thread fall off the list all week, I think.
The place seems to be so positive and I didn’t want to start grousing about how out of control I feel.
Well, it isn’t meant for that at all. If life was so positive for us, we wouldn’t need a place like Eat 4 Today. It is supposed to be supportive, yes.
For example, I didn’t get my walking done yesterday. I just didn’t have a chance to mention it.
What can I do to open the conversation to the struggles we are all dealing with?
It’s such a nice website…how can you not love Ductape’s philosophy of food and the positive daily affirmations?
But it’s hard to separate the larger issue of depression from just the everyday struggles with eating a healthy diet and exercising. Often when I’m reading the tips on motivating yourself to exercise or not eat between meals there is a big “yeah but” in my thinking…as in “yeah, but what about this big, f-ing chain around my neck that infuses everything with negativity?” I just feel that I need to get control over that part of my life so I don’t bring that negativity to every comment or diary I write.
And that’s where today’s discussion of “baby steps” comes in. Even if your goal is just to participate with us and tell us about what you’re going through — that’s a step.
I can tell you I’ve been stalled at the “yeah, but” step. I’ve been stuck there for a decade. I think it’s a totally valid conversation for Eat 4 Today.
{{Second Nature}}
Hey SN, you can email me anytime, you know. If you think I can help, or if you just need to get some stuff off your chest or whatever, drop me a line.
Oh and PS. I agree about DuctapeFatwa. A thousand years from now there will totally be a religion based upon his ‘net writings, and no one still alive will get the joke, which will only make it funnier.
So that I can enjoy the joke, and also because it would take that long to adequately thank you for such a wonderful compliment!
š
around our house, relating to Puget4’s stewardship of the household flow of paperwork, which has begun to resemble an avalanche tied in a gordian knot, to mix metaphors somewhat psychotically.
Anyways, I’m not a woman, but it’s my understanding that these things can be easier to handle if people ‘talk’ about them and ‘share’ feelings.
So I told Puget4 last night: ‘there, there.’
This relationship stuff is pretty slick. She’ll be up in half an hour and I’ll let you know if that did the trick.
If not, you may be hearing from her.
OH, you’ll be hearing from me!
Just kidding. I feel a lot better today.
(email – read the second one first)
it’s amazing how sorting through crap at 3am puts things in perspective… š
You crack me up! I hope you patted her shoulder when you said “there, there”?
(back in half an hour)….
Sorry folks. Gooserock and I don’t mean to sound like we’re making light of the above comments with Second Nature. Far from it. (Gooserock is so snarkable I can’t resist sometimes)
I’m going to share some stuff on Eat4Today in a little while. Please come over there, SN, and talk to us.
Seriously.
SN — I also never posted anything over at KB’s site because I love reading it but it seems SOOOO positive. So, I just went and read Puget4’s post and forced myself to post comment. It felt good. But I completely sympathize. It’s why I used to hate weight watchers meetings. Either I was feeling totally down and everyone else was so POSITIVE(!!!) or I was feeling good and everyone else was down.
(Yikes! I can’t stand it if we become like a weight watchers meeting!)
Well, you must have missed it everyday the week before last when I didn’t accomplish my walking goal on one single day.
Or yesterday when again, I didn’t.
I think you are confusing supportive with positive. Because, we are all of us struggling and taking tiny baby steps. I’m serious when I say that I am frequently breaking down my Just 4 Today pledge into even smaller (just for the next hour) bits.
Me? I’m not disciplined and have a hard time focusing. And the Just 4 Today column was designed to give me and others a place to try working on one thing or 2 just today.
Would it help to have more Open Threads for conversations that don’t fit directly into one of the other articles or columns?
Also, every registered member can write articles. And I would love to have you contribute a story — your story. Eat 4 Today is a new site and we are still finding our balance. Mary, please consider spending more time there (if you think it would be useful at all) and help us find that balance!
I’m glad you mentioned this, because I do not want it to be a place where you have to “put on a happy face” to hang out. What can we do to improve it?
I don’t think the site is ANYTHING like a weight watchers meeting KB — thank goodness. And I probably am confusing supportive with positive.
I just meant I sympathized with SN and that sometimes its hard to get active when you are feeling like you are on a different emotional level than everyone else.
I think the site looks good. And I’ve enjoyed reading it when I’ve been over there.
(Whew!) I know, sometimes I find myself just reading here and it doesn’t even occur to me to post replies.
check you email.
Heh. I actually have thought about it. The online application is for Spring 2006 admittance, though. See? I did check.
I don’t care if you sign up. I just want you to talk to someone who can tell you that all those things you’re worried about aren’t anything to worry about.
I’m sure even I could do that. š
If you do, I will be there the whole time holding your hand and telling you what a smart, fine, strong, and able person you are (in addition to your uncanny ability to turn Indy on — in a variety of ways).
Maybe I should bring a lifesize cutout of the blue dot and sit it in the chair next to me.
Whatever works.
And remember, I’ve got the Blue Dot on my side, I’m stubborn, and I never admit I’m wrong — in other words you’ll never wear me down š
And if you doubt her, just look at all the margins she’s busted.
I just got the joke, Andi.
Good Morning All and especially Second Nature. I’m up and awake now and heading for E4T. I know that depression route very well. I’m there or on the edge all the time. Come on over to E4T. Let’s talk.
I tried to tell you, but it’s not letting me post a comment — it’s telling me I must be logged in to post a comment, and I am logged in…technology is not my friend this morning… š
Did you get my email? I sent you a new password. (how’s this for secure communication?)
Quiet? What is that?
Hubbo is in my bathroom pounding nails, Ok, it is almost 0110 ,but still!
What I used for your birthday post š Each time I see this photo (my daughter uses it for hockey picks) I think of you š
That is such a great shot, it makes me grin every time I see it — and it’s just a stellar example of your genious for having fun with life.
streetcar named Desire… flashback but not quite the same.. š
genius?? Damn! Thanks for the compleemint š I think I’ll wrap you up and put you in a little Altoid tin and keep you safe and slightly sound so whenever I’m dodging doubt bullets, I can open the box up and hear from you, my own personal Happy Guru š
If you are going to lock with me up with a bunch of miscreant mints, I’m going to totally reconsider my remarks. And be damn grumpy about it, too!
You’re uniquely and strong š
It’s better than keeping you in with some pocket lint.. I know!!!! How about I keep you here on the nets so we all can enjoy you?
though I probably could have worked out some sort of treaty agreement with the Altoids — now if you had said mentos, I might have actually gone postal.
Damn, I blew it – it’s “curiously storn” not “Uniquely strong”…
ARGH. Sunday Morning piss in my coffee blues LOL
GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOd Morning Frogs and all the tadpoles too. It is a very wet and depressingly cool day here today in the northwest corner of TN. 40 degrees and wet and cool is not my favorite feeling to share with others….but we must have some of it for the spring planting, I suppose…:o(
The cats got me up early to place food in the bowls so they then could do their routine and then go back to napping,,,,AGAIN! Damn, I want to be a cat in my house, someday….:o) They could hardly let me clear my eyes for seeing where I was going before they started to meow at me with “HURRY” “I AM HUNGRY”! It was, like a wagon train moving west, with the parade to the food room…:o)..I love to see this for they take their order and dare any other cat to interfere….:o) Am I politically correct here???
I have listened to all the morning shows and boy howdy have the democrats tried to come out swinging. That gives me at least one milliliter of hope….:o) I likes the way that kerry would not let GS place him in a box today… That was promising within its own.
HOpe all is going well with you all…andif, do you have a sunshine day to who me…:O) I could sure use one today…
HUGS to all….have a great day…
Brenda, you just have to visit the website of the author who inspired katiebird’s new site. Her name is Christina Jones and she and her husband take care of l7 cats!!
Here’s the link to her very entertaining cat page: LINK:
And here’s a link to where katieb talks about how the author inspired her. (It wasn’t the cats. :)]
LINK: (You may have to scroll down a tiny bit.)
Okay Kansas, I have to ask: your numbers always look a little askew, and I have noticed that they often resemble letters or other characters, is there a reason for this? Pardon the question, it’s just that these are the kinds of things that can keep me up at night, musing, Why would Kansas make her teen numbers look like they contain lowercase Ls? Is it some kind of Illuminati thing? Is she messaging the aliens? OMG is Kansas an alien working for the Illuminati?
You’re weird. I like you.
I’ve always noticed this also!!
Yes. (There is hidden code in that.)
God, I wish this explanation could be interesting. Alas. I have a long-standing habit of hitting lower case “l” when I want to make a “1.” That’s it.
Which doesn’t exactly solve the question of whether or not I’m an a1ien.
All it means is that you learned to type on an actual typewriter and never had to do Data Entry after the move to computer databases.
Some of us had that beaten out of us 20 years ago!
That’s exactly r1ght, kat1eb1rd.
Okay, !’ll stop now.
Aliens, as any student of the 50’s and 60’s invasion movies can tell you, know better than to do things that call attention to themselves. They also have no sense of humor, not even one that is often slightly askew from the normal world.
As for the ‘l’ for the ‘1’, I figure it’s just passive aggressive typing.
Ah, but the aliens can never mimic people perfectly, which is key. There’s always some subtle way to tell they’re an alien, like when they suck out a brain or their skin fizzles from a drop of water. Little stuff that the eye can be trained to detect.
or you make a comment about rubbing off on somebody or a making a slip of the tongue and they don’t make something dirty out of it.
Yes. (There is hidden code in that.)
Some of us know that this is the real answer, right? That “habit” thing is BS, but good BS since I’m sure some people will buy it. It’s all very Stuart.
Oh my heavens, Kansas! I was awe-struck with the links. I have only 3 cats, but they are like having 33. They want and desire differently, on any given day. I can not keep up with thier desires on a daily basis..however; tho, they do have their own little personalities, they do present challanges differently on a daily basis. One, Bob-cat, as he is known by, is the one that was my daughters when she passed away. He has a history of his own, which would be a story, altogether. He knows English like I only wished I knew it….and that is not just brag, it is fact. When I speak with someone on the phone and we discuss cats, I have to spell so that he doesn’t know what I am saying..and he can be, what I think is asleep and then when I start to speak of the cats, I have to spell for he knows that I am talking about him or of the things he has done etc. NOw isnt that the most crazy thing ever!!! My desk in my office is huge. He would sit on top of my tower and fall off when he would go totally sound asleep. He was doing this so many times that I know he would get hurt from it. Plus he is so big,…well you know the old saying the bigger they are the harder they fall..so I put a pillow in one corner of my huge desk so he could lie upon it..WELL, do you think he would do that instead of falling..hell no! Well, I finally told him [in English] this was for his better good so he would not hurt himself and he migrated to the pillow. All of this after trying hard to just push him that direction or place him on the pillow! He lies there and when I do talking over the phone, he looks at me as if he knews exactly what I am saying…My friend Pam, from Illinios and I would talk about our cats, and the things they do around the house and what they do to help or disrupt our lives. He got to where he knew when she would call and though my conversation with her, he would lie there looking at me as if he wanted to monitor my conversation to Pam. When I started to mention him in conversation, he would come to me and rub on me and the phone, as if he wanted to say something. One day I said to Pam, lets try something…I said to Bob, say something to Pam. He meowed great big and loud over the phone! Now if that is nothing but knowing English, I do not know what is! This is just an example of many things. My kids simply are amazed about me and my cats. They laugh at me and carry on, as if I have lost my ever lovein mind at times. [..and at times, I feel, I just may have..:o)] I have often said, If I would video them they would amaze them too…so..now you know when I mention my cats, I really mention them in great respect!!! :o)
BTW, I am just about through the book, the lies…, I am so awe-struck with it! Can’t wait till Feb. the 11th…
Wow!
(I’ve got to catch my breath, I never read that fast anymore!)
Katiebird, I caried the book with me so when I had free time waiting on something or the other, I grabbed for it and read. From the beginning it held me in its power of information. This is how I have become…hungry for information. I happened to love history anyhow….so one thing led to another. I discussed it last night with my grand daugher. I know I have to help her as her nana to understand that reading is very informitave in many ways. I used not to be a good reader or one that loved to read, with my growing and maturing, I have come to love it. YOu all started me wondering about many things here, at Booman. I read your diary on your first book review here and was just into it so much that I had to try this and see if I can enjoy it with you all. Just the fact that I am reading other things other than john grissom or such, is amazing to me and how learning is to not be left behind even when one gets older and thinks one has learned it all or knows it all….:o) Anyhow, am looking forward to this review.
…now the next thing is to attack my typing skills…:o)
Morning everyone and Aloha I am so excited about the meetup, can’t wait….
Say is it cold down there, it sure is here, I’m freezing, electric heater cannot throw off enough heat here in new place,….have to wait till afternoon to get warm inside.
We had dinner with some 60+ year old friends Fri night. They don’t recall ND ever having a winter this consistently warm, (since Thanksgiving).
Now I’ll have to go check with some 90+ year olds.
Back from the auto show. Lots of shiny cars, some of which even get good gas mileage. We’re not in the market, but it’s always fun to wander around the displays. Andrew’s eyes were bugging out of his head at all the stimuli. He seemed to enjoy it.
is hoping for a hybrid minivan by the time we’re ready to replace the 1988 Toyota Camry — supposedly Toyota’s running a smaller version of their Sienna minivan as a hybrid over in Japan, so who knows what’ll happen in the next few years? (Spouse wants a minivan mainly for hauling stuff around and also for possible camping trips in the future.)
Mom-in-law is trying to talk dad-in-law into getting rid of the 1980 Toyota Cressida that’s been the second car, and getting a hybrid; the Prius may be a bit small for them though, so I recommended the hybrid Honda Accord.
IRC, Ford has a hybrid Escape – a smallish SUV and it looked like Toyota had a whole line of hybrid cars.
So what car did you pick out for me?
Umm, I don’t mean to be picky or anything but it doesn’t look fast, it isn’t british racing green, I’m pretty sure it won’t go in the snow, and oh yeah, somebody messed up where they put the steering wheel. But other than that, it’s perfect.
But it’s totally eco-friendly, no gas or electricity involved. You pedal it.
Jim pointed out to me, when I was whimpering about it not being fast that if it wasn’t, it would be my fault.
But it’s still not british racing green š
There ain’t no galldarn cup holder!
part of what I wrote… seemed fitting to share it here : )
Remember: it’s not about Red, White and Blue anymore. It’s all about the color Yellow, the color of cowardice, fear, awol chickenhakws. It’s about wire taps and speech “zones”. False senses of security, freedom, liberty, justice.. so that a few can feel obliged to be apathetic while education and the arts drown and the same cooperations continue to profit from the blood and misery in Iraq, Afghanistan, New Orleans and Pakistan.
The only thing we have to fear is fearmongers. Uh… rightwing zealot fearmongers that is. Rapture = World War “W”.
Psst – Indy!!!!! It was so great to chat with you the other day!!! Whoot!!!!!!!! Let’s runaway together to … Costa Rica š
I am so there. I’ll bring the cocktails, you bring the hot cabana boys.
cocktails and cabana boys … can I join you?
Indy, I had dinner with my editor friend and asked her what she knew about setting up your own publishing business. She wasn’t incredibly informative because she’s always worked for big organizations until now (Time Warner, etc) but she said she thought biggest production expense would always be printing and binding because most authors wouldn’t require an advance (since they’d just be happy they found a publisher). She said you can get a better deal on printing and binding if you find a printer that will tie you into the end of a run they are doing for someone else. It gives you less creative control (size, etc.) but keeps your cost down.
Probably not very helpful, but I was thinking about you and your project.
Thank you so much for thinking of me. I very much appreciate the feedback from Someone With A Clue™, as well. Due to some other stuff I have going on (cross-country move & chronic illness) I won’t be putting together a serious business plan until later this year, but I will definitely keep her advice noted for when I do so.
cocktails and cabana boys … can I join you?
The more the merrier. š
So true on so many levels… EXCEPT when talking about people on a hammock. š
More than two and we’re talking spinal damage and broken fingernails, wrists… and other extremities.
Personally I think hammock tipping should be a part of the X games š
