Nearly four years ago, after he resigned as the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Tommy Franks predicted that we can expect martial law to be declared in the U.S. if there was any more terrorist “incident” within our borders. At that time, it looked like an exaggeration to me.
Events since then have made me wonder if we are already past the point at which Franks’ statement will materialize very soon.Look at the evidence:
- We know that a vast spying network was let loose on us after Bush ascended to the throne. That was done by fiat without anyone even being aware of it.
- A terror incident,9/11, that Bush and Cheney claim could have been prevented by the spying occurred any way, despite the clandestine and unauthorized spying. The real question is,if the spying could have prevented the terror incident, why did it occur? LIHOP or MIHOP?
- That incident sits like an elephant in the room and we all go in circles around it without even asking the very basic question: Cui Bono?
4.Those who profited from that are already well on their way to torpedoing the Constitution and enforce a dictatorial regime.Who amongst us is going to bell the cat?
I am hoping that men like John Murtha would inspire someone in our armed forces and the agencies to stand up and say no more.I have lost all hope that the jellyfish Democrats can summon the will do the same.
I happen to agree with your diary! That is plain and simple from reasoning.
Now if Tommy were to pander to the democrats, what would have been his message. They didn’t bite back in 04 so now what!!?? He took his message to the right and they bit and now look at what we have. This goes to show the reality in which we live today. If only those of us could have the ability to read between the lines, we would have not be ont he opposite side of the leadership in congress and the WH and then there is the SC……That is yet another leading venue to the extend as to where we are all headed and rapidly! If we can not stop this rush to become a police state, then it will be on our heads that we were sleeping again at the wheel.
If we can not make our point and clearly to the members of congress NOW then it will be we all will be reaping the final result of this republican party. I am watching may matlin and the two others on TMP and it is so obvious!…….and prior to that of Obama. I do think we have weakness that is sooooooo sad to even see and listen to..they do not have any guts to call a spade a spade…This bothers me sincerely! That is jut MHO and I am open for discussion…
the ultimate goal of these so-called terrorism incidents has been to break the will and spirit of the American people, to cow-tow to a form of capitalism that leads to wealth concentration and power in fewer and fewer hands.
Marshall law would allow the arrest of innocent civilians who dissent with their government. Very dangerous.
You are correct.Breaking the will of the people is the goal.Already we are hearing rumblings from scum like Chris Matthews that Bush is our protector and we have to do what he wants no questions asked. Can we get any closer to the Nazis than this?
I think it is happening already. It’s set up to go full force. What happened in New Orleans is that 300.000 people were forcibly displaced all over the country and that’s something more than Marshall law, that is a form of ethnic cleansing.
If they had let all those people stay near to New Orleans and not taken care of them….which is what would have happened…I believe there would have been an army of angry Americans who could have formed an organization that would have to have been put down by the military.
I am only remotely involved in politics, yet I have gotten SSSS on the last 4 plane flights. I don’t know what that means.
live on CNN, for four days, and the angry Americans managed to contain their rage. Those who could not were small enough in number that they were easily turned back by US gunmen.
To be fair, I don’t think anyone in Washington expected there to be so many survivors after almost a week.
I do not think martial law will be declared. There may, however, be some adjustments made to the “Terror Alert” chart, one or two of which will be designed to provide Americans with extra protection from the evildoers who hate freedom.
There are plenty of blogs with eyewitness accounts of the FEMA camps set up and the disproportionate amount of restrictive rules that covered involuntary participants from the hurricane.
Rumi: Are these camps still in operation? Can you tell me where you found this information about the blogs, I have read only one…I think it was in Arkansas.
Thanks
Sorry for the delay. I hate it when life intrudes on my efforts to save the world.
I came across them in searches of …can’t even remember what the initial subject was, now. I was fired up during Katrina about the rush to disperse as many citizens as possible. I had heard from members of a church I don’t go to that the security was high here in WV where they came. Unacceptable way to treat our brothers and sisters.
I read about that one and then there was Camp Amtrak. But is there anything else? I am looking for a pattern if there is one.
There is precious little information in summary form as to where 300,000 people are and the conditions they are living in.
Are there camps? How many are they holding? Some are in Hotels…some…I don’t know…..
I was assuming they would all be put in camps near New Orleans and there would be lots of problems as a result of the concentration of these people. But they have been de=concentrated….dispersed….it makes it difficult to follow them as a group. This is better for Bush. Whose the big brain behind this?
One way of getting back to these in searching has lead to another interesting concept worthy of it’s own conversation. The faith based road to round-up.
UMCOR’s role will be to coordinate, monitor, and report on the work of 3,000 professional and volunteer case managers in delivery of services to people who were living in Alabama, Louisiana, or Mississippi when Hurricane Katrina displaced them. A core group of paid workers will supervise teams of trained volunteers. All agencies to be considered as partners have proven experience in the case management field. “The program will complement, not duplicate, ongoing government efforts,” said Paul Dirdak, UMCOR director, who said the grant is the largest ever received by UMCOR. “FEMA turned to UMCOR because of our competence in this sector and their confidence that we can provide accountability,” he said.
UMCOR Gets Government Nod to Coordinate Case Management
I have a few more I found that I’ll post after I double check them for accuracy.
Yep, it’s time for a rescuer to invade the US and free the population of this totalitarian government. Kinda like what the US did for Iraq. (But of course we havn’t the oil fields that Iraq has.)
I know it sounds glib to talk about seeing a Hollywood movie, but I urge everyone to see the movie The Siege, staring Annette Bening, Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, and Tony Shalhoub. If you’ve seen it before, watch it again (especially if you saw it before 9/11).
Released in 1998, the movie is about the reaction to a series of terrorist attacks in New York City. Against the wishes of the military commanders, Marshall Law is declared in the city and the Army is brought in. Once the Army is in, it gets bad. Anyone of Arab descent is rounded up and put into a holding tank at the sports stadiums. An Arab witness is tortured to death by the military/CIA despite protests by the FBI. The movie even gets the politics right: the terrorists are former U.S. allies, who turned on the U.S. when we abandoned them.
Of course, in typical Hollywood style, the terrorists are killed and the situation resolved quickly. But this is a prescient film that I don’t think did very well in theaters because the topic of terrorist attacks in the U.S. was somewhat taboo before 9/11.
I agree with you. I saw it pre and post 9/11. Scary, isnt it??!!
be very afraid
part II
i will be sure to use the franks piece in part III. thanks for the reminder!
Great pieces! You’re right, the Katrina response seems to have been a preliminary exercise (almost wrote ‘dry run,’ but that just seemed too __) to set the groudwork for worse. Look foward to reading Part 3.
Btw, I enjoyed your Roberts interview. I tried twice to rec it & crashed each time. Have enjoyed anumber of pieces read at Anti-war.com & Counterpunch.
Also ran across your diary on Libby’s judge, Reggie Walton, during a search, & it’s the best piece done on him out there! nod
I’ve got an interesting take on Walton sitting on my desk from a Daily Journal (not online) written last month by Jonathn Shapiro who thinks Libby’s in trouble. May yet type up some excerpts.
and thanks for the kind words!
Yes, I’d like to echo the good words expressed here but I have one question…will enough people listen before it’s too late?
necessary to protect our precious bodily fluids.
[Who’s going to do an updated version of Dr. Strangelove? Calling George Clooney!]
Actually, I’m not sure martial law will be needed when the entire country is already bent double and getting its ass fucked.
What more does His Jerkness need?
Our current situation reminds me of Weimar Germany that William Shirere describes before Hitler attained absolute power by eliminating all political foes and cowing others into silence. The utter collapse of our Congress, the Democratic Party, the judicial system and the Press brings the day when Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld could celebrate a little closer. However, in the ir quest for absolute power they also need to eliminate the last vestiges of resistance in the Armed Forces, the intelligence agencies and the intelligentsia.
He is seeking unchecked power to help him disappear his political foes like Pinochet and others did before him.He is also seeking to set up rendition programs for U.S. citizens free of any restraints.I am sure the idea of Concentration Camps has crossed his mind.
He has assumed the title of Our Protector thanks to Matthews. If a “terror incident” occurs before 2008,abrogation of elections is sure to follow.
ARBEIT MACHT FREI, indeed.
Even as astute and wise a man like Shirer did not foresee the rise of tyranny in the U.S. so soon after Hitler’s last days.History has played a cruel trick on the victors. Can anyone tell me why Japan and Germany are the most admired countries in the world now?
I was never interested in the Hitler history until recently. Even at a first glance from several sources it appears that Hitler was adamant about his policies and advancement somehow being sanctioned legally. Have you ever noticed that, or is it common knowledge or my miunderstanding?
Martin Luther King, one year before his assassination:
Personally, I admire several other countries a lot more than I admire Germany and Japan.
