Welcome back!
This week I will continue with the painting of the Zuni Mesa seen in the photo below.
When last I posted this diary (2 weeks ago because I had a fever of 101 last week), the painting was just at the stage of its initial strokes. They were done in blue for purposes of clarity of this diary and to blend well with what will be the final version of the sky. We left it as seen below.
I’ve continued applying color to the remaining white area. The mesa has been temporarily been covered in a pinkish color and the foreground in green. The painting as it currently appears is seen below.
At this point it the development of a painting, it always seems to me that the real painting is about to begin. Of course, it is the first few strokes that place the main elements and are crucial to all that will come later.
Next, I can’t wait to move on to those clouds. But first I’ll put som more paint on the sky.
Thanks for stopping by. See you next week.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
Sweet stuff! First time I’ve dropped by.
Just last weekend we got out to see a show of Marsden Hartley’s work, who I’d first heard about in Charles Olson’s writings years ago. Quite the testimony to one man’s struggle to record the spiritual encounter with the natural world.
One stunning piece was a vivid red/purple New Mexico mesa landscape painted from memory, much more liberal color-wise than those he painted ‘live.’
Look fwd to seeing more of yours as it progresses.
Hi boran2-always enjoy these diaries of yours and the progress in a painting. I really envy anyone that can paint and draw..if I attempted anything like this I’d have to go with abstract not because I would purposely draw abstract but that is what it would end up like..unrecognizable as to the original object.
