Quite early one morning in the winter in Wales, by the sea that was lying down still and green as grass after a night of tar-black howling and rolling, I went out of the house, where I had come to stay for a cold unseasonable holiday, to see if it was raining still, if the outhouse had been blown away, potatoes, shears, rat-killer, shrimpnets, and tins of rusty nails aloft on the wind, and if all the cliffs were left. It had been such a ferocious night that someone in a smoky ship-pictured bar had said he could feel his tombstone shaking even though he was not dead, or at least was moving; but the morning shone as clear and calm as one always imagines tomorrow will shine.

Good Morning
Hi
Good morning. How are you doing today?
I’m fine & hope you are too. I saw KB got her site going again. Hope ya’ll didn’t have to work too hard.
We did a bunch of messing around that didn’t help anything because it turned out the problem was something much simpler — a file that somehow got trashed. I’m just happy it’s back and nothing was lost but a little time.
I know how you feel. I’ve spent hours trying to get something to work and later found out it was one simple little thing.
I finally found the battery to in old computer and with this weeks trip to the city I’ll get a new one. I went through the whole Bios thing and it didn’t work. So I’m taking the battery and cables and getting all new. I hope I’m lucky this time.
Good luck with getting it all working. I’m much happier working with software problems than with hardware ones.
Is the Dylan Thomas quote a reference to … the thundersnow apparently experienced last night by the easterners?
The wind storms that the west coast survived?
Or are we talking about virtual storms?
Good morning – How are you today?
I don’t think Super would call his storm virtual.
I thought maybe maybe froggybottom opened the new cafe to avoid the flame war that was about to erupt in the old cafe about whether Michele Kwan should or should not have even been on the Olympic team.
A flame war over Michele Kwan? I signed out last night and haven’t read what was going on last night. I guess I’ll have to take a look.
I’m in the same storm, and it’s still snowing. My neighbor just swung through with the plow.
How much have you got?
It keeps snowing here off and on but it’s been such a lazy snow with big, fat flakes that it’s only added up to about 4″ inches.
big, fat flakes … well, there’s a phrase I use in a whole lot of circumstances.
MOre than a foot, I’m guessing 15 inches. Even my biggest dog is having trouble walking in it.
So if I took George out for a walk he would sink to the bottom and I wouldn’t be able to find him. That’s a thought.
Our shih-tzu is bummed, to say the lleast. Time to shovel a path over to the woods for her.
I can imagine she would be. I wonder sometimes how George would react to snow. I have a hard time getting him to go out if it’s raining or the grass is wet.
A Shih-tzu ….
[THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK]
Yeah, what are you sayin’? Tryin to start a flame war here? I’ve got 2 aussies too, ya know…and don’t make me get out the chicken pictures!
I think the chickens would LOVE to be out there in that snow. And they keep better when their frozen.
I feel my virus returning…why don’t you come sit next to me, maryb? 🙂
<gasp> I thought you LOVED George.
Well I do, but he can be a pain sometimes.
I’m composing my GBCW letter right now. I can’t stay now that I know you would even think of harming a dog.
On the other hand, a shih-tzu
[THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK]
Now i didn’t say harm, just lost for a few minutes.
I seem to recall you were wanting to have one with the CabinBoys. Your powers are very impressive.
That’s a good phrase — although I’m using it in the context of attacking someone for a tinfoil hat theory. I’ll attribute though, if you want.
I think we should attribute it to Dylan Thomas.
With google it might be hard to attribute “big fat flake” to Dylan. And I’m very picky about my footnotes.
We only got a light dusting of snow here in StL. But we have thundersnow occasionally. It’s freaky but I kind of like it. I never wish for “a good thundersnow” though — because if conditions are right and the south is sending us a lot of moisture up from the gulf – thundersnow results in lots of snow in a short period of time. Like 2 feet in a few hours. So I hope you don’t get a stranding type of snow.
I was just delighted to know that the boys trucked in enough wood yesterday to prevent the loss of electricity (and heat and water) that we usually get with a storm like this. I was crossing my fingers that we wouldn’t lose power when the thunder was rattling the windows last night!
How are you feeling?
I am much better, thanks! I’ve had a week’s worth of sleep in the last 48 hours, and my headache is gone. I even got partway through BostonJoe’s book last night!
Then you must be better. I can never read when I have the flu.
Drink lots of fluids today, you’ll need to replenish.
We’re talking a beautiful piece of writing and you can make of it whatever you choose. 🙂
Isn’t that the beauty of all great poetical type writing?
Wheeeee! Philly is covered in the white stuff and I, CIcero, will throw snowballs at anyone who tries to take my bread and milk.
</cold war humor>
Good lucky you. Down in the deep south I saw maybe twenty or thirty flakes and then it was gone :{.
Snow Ball fight!
Quick Family Man — let’s use this big pile of snow where plow went through to hide behind like a fort. I’ll make the snowballs if you can throw straight.
I used to be pretty good with snowballs, but haven’t had the chance in years. Do they still put rocks in them ;).
Good Morning Ya’ll. It is a pretty cold morning here in TN. We had snow a couple of days ago that actually stuck to the ground. Yesterday it did melt somewhat but is till on the ground. I actually am glad we had some cold weather for a change. This means maybe it will kill off some of the bugs that will infest us this summer.
So what is happening with you all this morning? This is my only day off and need to get some things done at the house, but decided to take a few hours to converse here and drink coffee and wake up slowly..,.:o) I am still on call but maybe the luck of the Irish will be with me and I wont be called in today…..well, maybe not till tonight anyhow.
Hugs to all….
Brenda I hope you don’t get called in today and you can just sit back and relax.
LOL that’s excellent.
I like that.
Especially where the shih-tzu is.
make fun of this cute little pup?
That’s it. They suck you in. And then they CLING to you.
Sorry, I’m a big dog kind of gal.
A slacker big dog, just for you.
Yes, now THAT’s a dog. I like a dog that can keep me warm on a cold snowy night.
We have too many conversations going in too many different places. A geriatric blogger like me cannot keep up. Let me know if I’ve missed any.
. Yes, good literature is like that.
. I think it was a good thing that Michelle Kwan dropped out.
. Dylan Thomas was a prolific writer and a drunk. The opportunities for his writings to not be on the internet but on the bathroom walls of a bar are immense.
. You won’t think so once he slimes you.
OK,
maybe just a little rubbing behind the ears.
hmm, maybe I should have hit [Parent] before I hit [Reply to this]…
Speaking of George, he’s started the whine, so the stop watch is started. I got to go outside for a walk.
Check with ya’ll later.
Good morning,
Glad to hear Cabinlady is feeling better and that the little men set in enough firewood for Mama ;o)
We’re in a lull right now with the blizzard. The wind is cranking though. Hopefully we won’t lose power today but I have plenty of firewood myself just in case. Everyone is still sleeping including 15 yr old daughter’s boyfriend who was abandoned by his parents for the weekend. So he’s downstairs with Justin, my big beautiful boy ;o) I’ll get breakfast going soon. My typical Sunday morning routine.
Good morning to all! I thought that I was hosting today but I see that Diane101 will be doing it. Maybe later. It is blizzarding right now here in NY. Hopefully we won’t lose power, there is probably a foot outside now. Film at 11.
Morning,
we have only 5-6 inches here so far but it’s supposed to go till 4 or 5pm today. I’m gonna try to get out a little later and get down to the Sound (Long Island Sound) and get some pictures. The wind is still out of the NE so the waves should be pretty spectacular.
Here in Westchester we were supoosed to get little, I guess that the snow gods changed their minds.
Out here on the North Fork they said it could mix with rain but at 25 degrees that seems unlikely. Supposed to get up to 15 inches and naturally the kids are hoping school might be closed tomorrow. I’ll have to put in a good word for them with those snow Gods.
Here in SE PA we already have 15 inches. Still snowing, but much more lightly.
I’m hoping for only a 2-hour delay tomorrow. we have a 4-day weekend coming up on Friday. And I love the boys, but how can I miss them if they don’t go away?
Well if they do get the day off I doubt they’de waste it with parents. So it’s the best of both worlds.
Sorry about that. Apparently Diane101 got in a discussion about the cafe in another diary and decided to come back to hosting. I think she’s taking it over permanently but I’m not sure. I’ll stop by her cafe once it’s open and ask her.
I’m over here? See me?
I moved as far left as I can go to help you out.
True competitors can deal with being slimed. For authority on this see, Kwan vs. Froggybottom, 35 S.W.2nd 442, (Mo. App. 2006) (concurring opinion written on a toilet stall in London by Dylan Thomas asserting that libel during lifetime increases sales of works after death).
*snort*
Wow, look at those big, fat flakes!
I thought I was creating great literature. Hmmpf.
in Winnipeg one time the women came out into the dining room of the restaurant giggling ha ha ha.
We asked what’s so funny? They said, well, on the wall of the stall someone had written, “Women of the world unite, let him sleep on the wet spot.”
What the heck was so funny about that anyway? Maybe AndiF will explain… I don’t know that I’d trust maryb with that one.
I am somewhat reluctant, it being the Lord’s Day after all, to explain that reference to you…
with your husband?
I guess he got off okay, because I haven’t heard otherwise. Sounds like they started cancelling flights about an hour after his.
Yeah but did he catch his flight? ;o)
I think you’re the one to keep an eye on maryb, see that she doesn’t get to rambunkcious…
No thanks,
I’m not holding that particular tigress by the tail ;o)
I’ve got a tiger by the tail it’s plain to see,
won’t give up ’til she gets through with me,
I’m losin’ weight and turning mighty pale,
looks like I got a tiger by the tail,
and supersoling goin’ to bail…
Hee hee. I hesitated to phrase it that way for about a half a second, then I figured some jr. high humor might liven up the place. As far as I know he also caught his flight.
You’re wondering if Jr. High humor is appropriate here? HERE?
By the way, while I was in the shower I thought I heard my name mentioned? Did you hear anything?
I heard some big, fat flakes* making some noise.
* with apologies to Dylan Thomas for stealing his words.
of the cosmos originator and fellow early risers!

Gorgeous. You may not be able to do the sunset through snow-covered forest shots but the lack of forest sure does give lots and lots of sky to play with.
Thanks! You and Jim will have to tour ND sometime. I think you’d like the scenery aspect especially if you avoid traveling the Is, as in I-94 and I-29.
Remember the days when all the roads went through the towns and interesting countryside both?
Having done some driving through the big empty of central Wyoming, I have to honestly tell you that our enthusiasm for doing that is limited — I’d say we’re good for about 2 hours before we need to hit a mountain range or badlands or lava field.
Munch your way to the brunch cafe.
