Good morning, all! Have all you northeasters dug out from the nor’easter?
the boy dug all the girls in our building out yesterday while i gave myself a pedicure…then i gave him one and shaved his legs when he was done all that shoveling.
at the last minute we decided we were going stir crazy and ran out to see brokeback mountain…the theatre was empty which was kind of cool.
as far as the movie is concerned…it was just ….ok…i feel a little less than enthusiastic about it…enjoyable but not that great a movie…nice story but to me im not sure it was that groundbreaking….i wish they had done more with the female characters, including jack’s mom, and the angst they experience in these situations….there were a few interesting points….ennis being “on top” so to speak in the first sex scene….how that makes men in denial feel better about what they are doing cause you are only really gay if you take it up the ass dont ya know….i think the kiss was too soon….i dont think it was realistic that it happened so fast….i think it would have been much more powerful if that bit of intimacy was held off….and whats up with the older daughter? i really wish they had delved into what was going on in her mind….
comparing it to other movies i have seen this year;
cinderella man – a good movie but not that enjoyable…might be the subject matter….better than last years million dollar baby which was so depressing i wanted to blow my brains out after watching it….i think cinderella man was a better movie than brokeback mountain although as i said i enjoyed BM better. ron howard and russel crowe defintiely are getting robbed.
king kong – peter jackson knows how to make a MOVIE….i loved it…i enjoyed it….and because my enjoyablility factor was so high i definitely feel it was better than BM.
walk the line – the best movie i have seen all year….not many movies i want a copy of so i can watch them again someday….this one is up there with the red balloon.
crash – 2nd to walk the line…..well done and enjoyable….way better than BM.
memoir of a dancing japanese prostitute – too short!!!!!…..i am obsessed with geisha (for obvious reasons no?) and i looked forward to this movie for so long….i tried not to have too high expectations really i did….but they didnt finish the freaking story….jerk offs….it ended up being a disney movie.
i havent seen capote or the squid and the whale or good night etc yet but i will in the next few days….i also want to see transamerica just because i have a thing for trannies…although all my tranny friends were disappointed in the movie itself.
as for BM the thing that most disappoints me is the girl boobies always get more screen time than the boy bits….every movie i can remember where there is homoerotic action or god help us male frontal nudity…its balanced out with tons more frontal female nudity…as if the directors are doing penance for daring to cross a line….someone need sto tell them they dont cancel each other out and seeing a nice erect male penis on the big screen wont make anyones head explode.
Have you seen Queer as Folk?
yes what about it?
cable has tons more hot homo stuff….hell there is more boy butt on nypd blue.
my mom somehow talked my dad and uncle and his very churchy homophobic wife into going to see BM….they liked king kong better too.
Lots of butts and stuff…
Interesting movie reviews, anna. The only ones I have seen so far are Crash and Kong, both of which I enjoyed but obviously totally different movies. I want to see Brokeback but I’ll probably end up going by myself – I sure don’t want to see my husband’s face during the kissing scenes and I think my boys would feel icky about going. I’m just awfully proud and surprised that it’s actually showing here in Raptureville.
I think my boys would feel icky about going.
That makes me tragically sad.
Feel icky about going to a movie with men kissing, with their mother. They’d have no problem going with friends.
That’s less sad. π
Well, the other thing is, they’re teenage boys and they’re still working at feeling comfortable with their own sexuality. Give them time.
You know my “sad” comment wasn’t about your boys specifically, right? It was just an emotional response to the idea that queer sexuality is still such a big weird deal in the culture in general, and specifically as it relates to masculinity; that it would freak anyone out even a little bit is very sad to me. (Add to that the idea that even covert representations of sexuality are something Americans are often uncomfortable viewing in various kinds of “mixed company” like with your mom, but we’ll all sit around and watch graphic re-enactments of brutal murders while we eat dinner, and GAH!)
But none of this has anything to do with your kids, it’s just a general sentiment of my worldview. π
I wish I could go to see Brokeback with my husband, but while he is generally supportive of gay rights, I’m sure he’d still squirm in his seat. I read that Brokeback has become something of a ‘chick flick’ for this reason. Times are going to change, Indy, and ‘regular guys’ like Mr. Nature and my boys won’t think twice about seeing two guys holding hands or whatever.
im not sure there is anything to feel icky about
i dont know how old your boys are but they would probably be bored more than squicked.
queer eye is more risque than brokeback mountain
I admit that when it comes to movies, I prefer scifi, spookers, comedy and sometimes a good fantasy. I absolutely hate tear-jerkers… if I want to cry I’ll look at my checkbook. π
Glad to hear that Philly is digging out.
Do what I do – don’t look at the checkbook.
Heading up toward 60 degrees. Not too hard to take.
Show off.
Great use of perspective.
He’s really that big. And of course it’s not today, because the boy is in school. At least I think he is…
Andi, how about another picture of your farm? I saw the one you posted last week… what a wonderful place! So many out buildings and nooks and crannies. No wonder you have so many pooches.
It’s not my farm — that was just a joke for CG and her chickens. (But I do have 40 acres of woods and we’re way back from the road so the dogs have free roaming.)
But I’ve driving by the farm since 1979 so I do feel a connection to it. And it’s one of the few farms in the area. The farmstead has been in the same family since the mid 1800’s. In the last few years, the family has fixed it up — the gutted the house and peeled off some awful external material that over over logs, tore down the old barn and built that big barn that’s in the picture.
Ha. I keep forgetting how sneaky you are. Fourty acres of woods! Sounds like a piece of paradise to me.
It’s even better than that since we’re completely surrounded by wooded acreage and most of my property line is shared with an 800 acre camp.
But you must have the acreage for the horses, ducks, and cats. And I know that you do have a really nice barn.
Great picture!!!
Good Morning all. I am new to the Cafe. I am in Texas and a yellow dog democrat. LOL
Welcome to FBC. Your diaries have been really excellent and an important addition to Bootrib.
Thank you!!! I am going to try and be more active on booman also.
Welcome. I’m familiar with your diaries. I’m glad you showed up…we need some new faces in here, and God knows we need more democrats in Texas!
Thanks for the warm welcome!!!!
I didn’t get to add my welcome also. It’s good to have you as a new member of the pond.
Thank you!!!!
Welcome to the cafe. Don’t let them tell you that new people have to wash the dishes. It’s not true!
ROTFLMAO!!! I have enough problems remembering to load the dishwasher at home.
Don’t worry they usually send me to the back to do dishes. Something about only a man know how to load a disherwasher. I think they’re me a big fib, but it does seem to work each time :).
Of course you recognize the old Huck Finn tactic.
Of course, but how could I refuse. Even if ya’ll did leave of ton of dirty dishes :).
LOL I can always make an excuse saying I have to go out for a smoke. LOL
Now who are we going to get to do it? Morning, maryb.
I am always willing to pitch in and help but not get stuck in the kitchen by myself. LOL
Good morning. I’m getting ready to put up the lurk cloaking device but I suspect I will jump in occasionally. Have a good day everybody!
GreaT!!! another new person to join in the fun!!!
Hope to see more of you here. The water’s great and the company divine.
Hello, Refinish69! I myself am not familiar with your diaries, so I guess that means you’ll have to write some more!! Welcome to the frog pond and to the cafe. Bootribbers have taught me that Texas has it’s fair share of Democrats and even (gasp) liberals. Glad to see you here in the cafe. I’m looking forward to reading your diaries.
Thank you!!! I was a post-aholic back in the fall and have done some more recent ones on depression … even though one has dissapeared, I guees cause of comments. but I will repost that one when I do my third installment which should be soon.
.
I already had a bit of fun before breakfast, just reading the comments!
“But I will not let myself be reduced to silence.”
▼ ▼ ▼ MY DIARY
hee hee
I know I’m going to get flack for being harsh to Miss Wife in her new diary.. but damn… these are harsh times and she got very uppity with the whole health care issues Streetkid and I were talking about.
I have some whining to do. My laptop, as some of you know, was the victim of some water spillage courtesy of my rambuctious kitten. It is officially dead in the water after several days of drying out.
While you’re moaning, what about the shoulder?
I think it’s one of those things that’s going to hurt for awhile. It was hard trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in.
I would try the massage thing first, but if the sharp, shooting pain thing persists, you need to look into it.
Will do – thanks, CG.
ouch!!! I am so sorry. have you atken it to a computer store to see if they can get it back running?
I’m afraid I’m going to have to do that. If it was bigger I’d just kick it, which seems to work for other appliances around my house.
yeah but if it were bigger then your toe would hurt along with your shoulder. I have tried the kicking and finally gave up on it. LOL
I’m so sorry SN. I wish there was something I could tell you on how to fix it, but I would be in the same boat you’re in if it happened to me.
It needs to go to the computer spa. I’m sure a little professional massaging will make it feel better. π
Totally off topic, but a few years ago I went to a frou frou resort in Santa Barbara, and they had a price list for the spa services in our room. One of them was “canine massage” and I wasn’t sure at the time if they massaged dogs, or if dogs massaged you.
LOL well the dogs would have to be better trained than mine ever have been. Mine just want loving and then to slobber on you.
I think I’ll have the 2-chihuahua massage followed by a hot-Basset Hound wrap.
me sees the oversized taco dogs they bring and and starts howling.
chihuahua?
Damnit!…I had no idea there was a photographer around! I would have at least worn my control top pantyhose.
I’m sure I will have to delurk later after I have time to think about that. So many good thoughts come into my mind, I just can’t choose. Self editing too.
Could be Californian for “foot rub”
More likely it’s a treatment modality based on a reading from the CAT scan in the next room.
but I actually saw an ad for classes in animal massage; evidently some folks make big $$$ at dog groomers and vet hospitals.
Back in a bit…off for my workout…
New to the Cafe, but have posted a few diaries here and at Kos and myDD.
Look at the recent list for my latest.
I’ll hang around all morning to respond to comments here and there.
Thanks for the welcome mat.
Welcome and join the Monday morning fun.
welcome from another newbie at the cafe
Welcome to cafe.
And we welcome diarymongering so feel free to include a link next time.
Jump on overboard and splash around. Don’t mind the lilypads and if you find a frog on your shoulder, just smile and give it a pat on the head.
Welcome! Not only do we encourage diary mongering, as Andi mentioned, but if you post a diary that is crossposted, include a link to that as well. We like to “cross-recommend” when we can.
Going out on a job interview…. Wish me luck!!!!
sending good thoughts your way!!!!
Good luck!
Good Luck.
Thanks, Family Man? Have you seen the film, BTW? I love it.
No I didn’t see the film. I’m so sluggish this morning it took me awhile to figure out what you were refering to. Thank God for Goggle.
I sending good thoughts your way on the job interview.
Knock ’em dead, mythmother!
Have a great interview and hope you find a potential great new boss to replace the jerk.
Best of luck to you but I’m sure it has less to do with luck than why they need you if they want to move ahead ;o)
Good luck, Mythmother. Just be yourself. π
Good morning everyone.
I never did make it out during the storm yesterday which by the way was more wind than snow here on the North Fork of Long Island. Maybe 9-10 inches of snow. The kids were pretty disappointed that school was open on time this morning. They’re very proficient at plowing around here.
Anyway I went out this morning and took a couple of pictures of the Sound and Horton’s Point Lighthouse here. Nothing to rival Andi, Gooserock, or Dada mind you ;o)
I’m hoping these post right since I use Photobucket and they changed their format.
Peace

To my right is the cliff overlooking the Sound. There is an anchor on the lighthouse grounds that belonged to a Steamer that was lost off Horton’s Point in a storm in the 1880’s I believe. I also understand that all aboard were rescued.

Just noticed I forgot to crop that last pic….F it ;o)
It looks beautiful with the vivid blue sky. I’m so impressed you were up and out so early this morning!
Super the pictures look great. Too bad for the kids sake about school.
Last year we had a crippling 1/4 inch snowstorm and schools were closed for 3 days.
Great photos!!! I do not miss the snow at all. LOL
Lovely!!! π
Hey what was up with photobucket making those changes anyways???
It won’t be long to gooselet time.
We already have a pair of wild geese hanging out in the clear water on our pond… eating duck food and relaxing on the island. (I have a big underwater pump going all winter to keep a large section clear of ice for my ducks.)I fully expect them to stay and nest on the island. My mother in law calls goslings “gooselets”. π
Gooselet sounds better, don’t you think? He looks so soft and fluffy.
Nag that’s a great picture too. It looks so soft and fluffy.
Thanks. If you can get close enough there is no such a thing as a bad picture. As much as I’ve wanted to, I’ve never attempted to catch one and feel that soft cuddliness. They are wild and I do try not to do any imprinting.
I have to do a couple of quick errands – be back in an hour or so.
George has started the whine and the stop watch is started. I’ll check in with ya’ll later.
Was told to include the link when I diary whore.
Code here is different than Kos and MyDD where BBcode works.
Oh well, just look on the recent lists if you are intersted.
Here it is, href= “http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2006/2/13/32538/5902”>Party Takeover Underway

Crossposted at DailyKos.
And why can’t I get my sig line to be italics????
If you use Firefox, you can use the extension “BBCodeXtra”, which also adds a menu for HTML. Works like a dream. Thanks for the links, will check them out.
DKos link
BooManTribune link
Excellent diary, I fixed your links. Recommended both.
There’s a way to post HTML tags and have them displayed… I tried to do that to show you the proper tags to use, but it didn’t work. I’m not very HTML proficient, I’m afraid.
Here’s what Nag was trying to show you:
<a href=”url goes here”>BooManTribune link</a>
The other way to make a link:

Note: be sure to take out the space after the opening bracket and before the closing bracket.
Back from the workout — up to 30 minutes (15 treadmill, 15 bike) — I’ll make sure to sit downwind till I get my shower…
Helping out mom-in-law today; she got a nightgown at the Nordstrom near us but decided that she wants the next size up. They’re holding the right one for her, so I’m going down to do the exchange; she can’t get down there with dad-in-law still not driving. And the Apple Store (right next to the Nordstrom) is having a workshop this evening so I’ll have a chance to attend that, and also do some shopping at the mall for the spouse’s Valentine gift (he lurks so I can’t tell you what I’m getting him…)
Okay, I’m off to the shower, then going to call Dick Cheney and invite him to go hunting… π
Good going on the workout, cali. Your heart will thank you.
for the scale thanking me when I weigh myself tomorrow… π
And as I posted to MT in the GBCW that “Militantyurt” put up, I’ve got to get in good shape to beat the neo-con assholes running this country into the ground… π
Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t move right away. Go by how you feel in your clothes and how you feel after you climb a flight of stairs. Sometimes you notice things like that before any weight loss.
I know the drill…many year veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. And I know the doctor will be glad to hear the news when I see her end of the month. π
It’s just good to follow through on a committment to myself…now if I could just get the spouse to workout with me in the evenings (to give myself a 2x a day routine).
