Probably a fair assessment. I need a game with huge breaks in the action where I can run and grab another beer and listen to the sound of my own voice. Baseball is almost perfect in this regard. Football is even better, because it’s not quite so dull. One problem with football is that if you’re dealing with a very long drive with lot’s of four yard gains, you may just consume your entire beer and then wind up sitting around forever before you can run and grab another.
Now you’re talking at home running and grabbing a beer and not the bar? At home it’s really easy, put a cooler by the couch. Bathroom break are a different thing though.
Actually when you mentioned the bar upthread, I was thinking how lucky you were. I miss living in a city where there are a couple of bars around the corner.
Olivia, I meant to ask you what happened to this Stanley Cup. Is it installed in the highest halls of Canada or did it mysteriously rise into the sky never to be seen again? 🙂
Hey there MM, FM, O-livia and assorted hockey fans. No hockey for me tonight. There’s a Lewis Black special on HBO that I’m itchin to see (9 CDT/10EDT).
Like I could find hockey on my satellite anyway… I know there’s sports channels out there, but … oh well, you get the picture.
How’d your day go … I read in a previous cafe that you were staying in d/t the cold and little bit of rain (yay!). I can admit that hockey’s not for everyone. 🙂
I pretty much slacked, so FM should be very proud of me. I did go out for a bit earlier and pulled some weeds and just surveyed what’s going on. Had to stake up several delphiniums today because wind blew them down … so just did em all while I was there. Pulled a few weeds, ugh.
But, Blue Butterfly delphinium is opening up, and I found 2 buds coming up from my kniphofia (Poker Plant)! Things need more water, but do look refreshed now that it’s cool
Actually several of my larger delphiniums are already blooming … just haven’t had a chance or the sun to get any good shots yet, and some flowers may have to get cut. We’ll see tomorrow.
Back. Safe and slightlysound. However, that was the most angry, most hateful, tense protest I’ve been to. A Marine started screaming at me… so the VFP asked him why he felt the need to go after a woman instead of all the men there.
The USN recruiters and USMC had to be protected from 20 peace activists and the police made us keep moving. Then the Jesus freak started in on us. But.. lots of love was returned to us by most in the crowd. Just a very hateful, angry military mob.
I do NOT Support the “troops”. They aren’t the military. They’re simply Bush’s Christian Soldiers bent on killing and hating.
Had to tell my husband just now of the Marine recruiter who made his hands into a gun shape, acted like he shot me then flipped me off. Right at the recruit station. So we stood infront of their station and banged the drums.
Hey there DJ … glad to see you back safe, but that sure sounds like one ugly scene today. You’re one courageous woman ya know. Otherwise, I’m speechless about this, but relieved you’re ok.
Wayne’s really pissed off.. I need to talk to him and stuff.
I’ll be back later tomorrow. I need to shower and regroup with Wayne. He supported me going to this… totally. He’s just angry about the Marines and Navy what they did to the peace activists. It wasn’t good. I thought we’d get shit from the crowd… not the Marines and … not the Navy.
Good afternoon everybody. (West coastie here.) Today I am pensive and a little sad ’cause my daughter just graduated from the school she’s been in since kindergarten, a sweet community in a wonderful school. Saying goodbye was hard. Next year she’ll be in high school. <sigh> how time does fly.
I thought there’d be more convention blogging but I guess we’ll just have to wait for the stories. I don’t have cable ya see and can’t bear to watch TV on my dinky computer screen.
It’s been cold in this city today and I’d love a hot toddy, whatever that is.
I should probably take leave for a bit myself. C got roped into helping the neighbor’s son put a garbage disposal, lol. We’ve got to get something to eat when he gets back, so we’re ready for Lewis Black at 9:00. If you folks aren’t familiar with him, he’s great, though comes off as an angry shouter at first. He appears somewhat regularly on Jon Stewart … anyway.
See you folks later in some incarnation of the café! Also think we may check out The Skeleton Key which is also on HBO… some spooky LA story with a voodoo angle I think? Didn’t do so bad watching Super Troopers last night, hehe… that was a hilarious stupid movie.
… in all your Cdn research? We have hot dogs (eww), pretzels, nachos, poutine, ice cream, candy and other asstd crap, beer … Same things as other sports, no?
I’ve been caffeine free for a few months now. I just decided I didn’t want to be addicted to caffeine anymore. One cup a day and if I didn’t have it I would get a really bad h/a (not a migraine, but h/a).
It was a wonderful day. We went out to breakfast, played outside, took a long walk, and I even managed to start to clean up some of the mess and clutter that has be accumulating in the last month.
I think my husband has it on downstairs. I am bound and determined to clear the buffet and the dining room table of all that clutter. I’m almost there.
We had a beautiful day. Sunny and right around 70. I don’t know what that temperature is in Canadian and right now I’m too lazy to find that metric conversion site I like so much.
We’re safely ensconced in our secret vacation bunker… 🙂 Got in about 1-ish and our room was ready (I called from the airport like they suggested); first order of business was a major nap — I was operating on adrenaline and 2-1/2 hours sleep. Feeling much relieved…we’re doing some minor unpacking and changing clothes — we’re heading out to dinner and hopefully a ferry ride this evening.
I forget if it’s CabinGirl or Katiebird who’s our Chihuly Queen; there was a beautiful one in a case at the Sea-Tac Airport. Wasn’t sure how well it would’ve photographed with all the lights and glare though. Might do some Googling and see if there are any other good examples I can shoot.
Tomorrow — hope to make it to the main service at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral; that’s one of the churches my parents-in-law attended when they lived up here. And hope to give Izzy a call; we’re going to try and arrange a meetup over in Bellevue later this week if it works out.
We’re in Seattle till next Friday, when we board a cruise ship for Alaska, then back here on the 23rd for a couple of days till we return home on the 25th. This is our much-planned Big Trip; the spouse will be turning 50 while we’re on the cruise. 🙂
Our hotel is gorgeous…and great transit location; the bus stop is practically just outside the front door! We’re going totally carefree and car-free this trip; buses and ferries — the new light rail system won’t be open till 2009, which means I know where we’re spending that year’s vacation. lol
We haven’t been up here in over 10 years…it’s great to be “home”… 🙂
Clean cafe and the TV is ready for hockey.
Hockey, who the heck is going to watch hockey, eh?
Well, the way I see it, folks have got three options for the evening:
I’ll go with Door #1, Monty!
I’m sort of torn between All in the Family or Andy Griffith re-runs.
Or people could have gone and tried to stop the killing.
Back. Safe. But was the worse, intense, hateful show of our “military” ever. Again I am changed.
n/t
Where did you go?
I’d rather die a thousand deaths. No, that’s a lie. I won’t be watching hockey all the same, unless they put it on at the bar instead of baseball.
A none hockey fan I see. 🙂

Yeah, I’m wildly inconsistent. My doctor says it’s okay on the weekends.
… the original bit isn’t it? Did you know there’s actually two cups.
I got that from here. Gives a good history of it.
Original Stanley Cup
Excellent FM … no slacking in the learning Cdn dept. 🙂
Heelllooo!!
Hello Miss Movie Star.
Hi, FM!
Hello, eh!
A rose from yesterday’s break walk.
That’s beautiful MM. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that color in RL.
Any stellar naps today?
Actually yes. After I got through mowing the lawn. I felt I deserved one. 🙂
You been doing any quality slacking today?
I’m the slacker queen! And I feel a nap coming on right at the moment……………
Hey there MM, FM, O-livia and assorted hockey fans. No hockey for me tonight. There’s a Lewis Black special on HBO that I’m itchin to see (9 CDT/10EDT).

It’s cold here today and tomorrow too. I could start a fire tonight it’s so cold. Brrrrr.
Good to hear that your delphs are opening. 🙂
Actually several of my larger delphiniums are already blooming … just haven’t had a chance or the sun to get any good shots yet, and some flowers may have to get cut. We’ll see tomorrow.
Love that colour of rose.

I’m just glad your home and safe. Those things can get out of hand real fast.
NO where is safe though.
Had to tell my husband just now of the Marine recruiter who made his hands into a gun shape, acted like he shot me then flipped me off. Right at the recruit station. So we stood infront of their station and banged the drums.
IT was bad
It sounds terrible Janet. You need to relax and get this behind you now.
I’ll put up a diary Monday. Right now I’ve got to crawl into a shell and heal. Sorry.
(((((((((((DJ))))))))))) big hugs for you.
Hey there DJ … glad to see you back safe, but that sure sounds like one ugly scene today. You’re one courageous woman ya know. Otherwise, I’m speechless about this, but relieved you’re ok.

We were Navy at one time..
Now… I’m a Human.
Love to all
It sounds like it was a changing moment. {{{{{DJ}}}}}
I see you were at Fleet Week Janet. Thanks for going there. If it’s anything like Fleet Week here it is a very intensely militaristic scene.

Well we have the best hot toddies in town. What ever your heart desires.
Both my daughters are grown and I know how times flies.
What do you recommend FM? Something with caffeine in it I think. I’ve got a graduation party to chaperone tonight.
Or just a cup of good coffee with some Baileys and Kahlua in it?
umm that Kahlua sounds yummy. Good idea to have it with the Baileys.
I would recommend hot coffee with a touch a Baileys in it. After the party, I would recommend staright Baileys. 🙂
Bailey’s it is, thank you IVG and FM. Also I like very much your post-party recommendation!
I find it rather amusing that FM and I came to the same recommendation within seconds of each other. Must be that strange Southern synchronicity.
For DJ … a nice, cool lush spot to hide in and decompress. She needs that right about now.

I was just informed I’ve got to go run an errand.
I’ll be back in a minute.
Thank you for the drink and the company, folks. I’ve gotta go prepare for a passle of 14-year-olds. Stay warm Olivia! I recommend the toddies.
I’m back. Did I miss anything?
How’s it going. Have you got your ice cream ready?
I did go to the grocery store, but I couldn’t figure out what we eat at hockey games.
I mean baseball has hot dogs, what does hockey have?
Whoa, I just got it on the channel and see Edmonton is up 1. 🙂
… in all your Cdn research? We have hot dogs (eww), pretzels, nachos, poutine, ice cream, candy and other asstd crap, beer … Same things as other sports, no?
I have yet to hear someone at a football game order up poutine. 🙂
Not big into cheese and gravy covered fries?
All that really matters is that you drink copious amounts of beer … 😛
I can do the beer thing. I mean sports wouldn’t be sports without beer. 🙂
FM could go to Tim Horton’s.
… so he might not like Tims (gasp, can you imagine?) but maybe he’s into doughnuts or timbits.
Well I quit drinking coffee a while back, but for Tims I could make an exception. I would look at it as part of my Canadian training.
Can you “roll up the rim?”
Haven’t yet, but what food or prizes would I win. 🙂
I’ve been caffeine free for a few months now. I just decided I didn’t want to be addicted to caffeine anymore. One cup a day and if I didn’t have it I would get a really bad h/a (not a migraine, but h/a).
When I quit, I was up to two pots a day and this was all before 12:00 pm. I used to not be lazy. 🙂
2 pots?
I shudder to think how many cigs … absolutely shudder.
Wow!
Not that many cigs. I was moving to much for that.
Oh to have that energy again. 🙂
Forgot who I was again.
but I quite like their veggie sandwich.
Evening folks. Did I see that someone had Bailey’s in here earlier?
Sure did Toni. I’ve got a case in the back. You want to start of with a little sip or a bottle. 🙂
A little on the rocks please, sir.
Sure thing Toni. How are you and the cutiest little boy in the world doing?
He is just great! He got his first real introduction to dogs today. He was a little nervous, but generally it went well.
I (and my hubby) are both pretty tired. We’ve both been burning both ends of the candle lately. It is now time to unwind.
How was your day FM?
I’ve had a very lazy day as usual. 🙂
What kind of dogs did he see?
My girlfriend has a Sheba Inu and the neighbors have Wheatens(?).
That cool. I’d never hear of the Sheba Inu, but have the Wheatens. I goggled both and they’re nice looking dogs.
How was your first day post-marking?
It was a wonderful day. We went out to breakfast, played outside, took a long walk, and I even managed to start to clean up some of the mess and clutter that has be accumulating in the last month.
The kind of day you long for when you’re in the midst of the work … the light at the end of the tunnel as it were.
Are you watching the hockey game tonight?
I think my husband has it on downstairs. I am bound and determined to clear the buffet and the dining room table of all that clutter. I’m almost there.
How are you doing?
How’s W weather? I lived there for a couple years and it was always warmer than SouthWest. ON.
We had a beautiful day. Sunny and right around 70. I don’t know what that temperature is in Canadian and right now I’m too lazy to find that metric conversion site I like so much.
I’m bilingual and can understand both … 70 does sound nice. Right now it’s 46F/8C. Brrrr… 🙂
We’re safely ensconced in our secret vacation bunker… 🙂 Got in about 1-ish and our room was ready (I called from the airport like they suggested); first order of business was a major nap — I was operating on adrenaline and 2-1/2 hours sleep. Hi Cali. Will you be there all summer?
We’re in Seattle till next Friday, when we board a cruise ship for Alaska, then back here on the 23rd for a couple of days till we return home on the 25th. This is our much-planned Big Trip; the spouse will be turning 50 while we’re on the cruise. 🙂

We haven’t been up here in over 10 years…it’s great to be “home”… 🙂
That sounds like a great vacation, Cali. I have heard that the Alaskan cruises are pretty cool.
I think it’s CG that posts the Chihuly …
Good to hear that you’ve made the first leg. Have fun — and don’t forget: pix, lots of pix … 😉
I’m going to run, OK slowly walk, and open a new cafe.
Be back in a minute.
