May the 4’s be with you
Good morning!
YESSSSSSSSS! I beat Andi to the punch! 😛
Good thing too — since it won’t be long till you’re just another lazy, sleeping-in college student.
Do I sense some bitterness? 😛
It’s already 90 degrees here in NY…too hot. This has got to be related to global warming somehow…there’s never been weather like this back east since I’ve been here.
It’s only (only?) 80 here. Going to a heat index of 105. Another fine day for staying indoors.
Is this your junior or senior year?
Morning Andi, how’s the back?
I’m on round two with the ice-pack. I’ve got about a column and left of my editorial, and then no more typing. Yay! Except for dog blogging and froggybottoming, of course.
My back’s down to a slight twinge, thanks. I just need to be aware of how I’m sitting at the computer and I think it will be fine.
Sorry your shoulder isn’t better. I just read last night’s comments and saw you’re in for a round of plumbing — I certainly hope the shoulder will be well recovered before then. (Do you get to buy some tools?)
The shoulder gets a bit better at times, but it’s always tweeked.
“Repairs and installations are only excuses to buy more tools” – tool junkie credo.
I’ll be a junior.
Now I’m even more impressed with the quality of your diaries. You’ve got tremendous ability.
That’s not easy to do 😉
Morning all. Great picture Andi.
Morning everyone. I’ve been at our county fair campaigning where, as Andi says, the heat index is stuck on TOO HOT. Here’s a little reminder to help everyone stay cool today.
Morning Indianadem. The truck looks a liitle familiar, but they snow….
Methinks we’ll be seeing less and less of that soon.
The truck is my brother’s. He collects all sorts of oddities and displays them on his lawn. If you look closely, you may be able to see the colored lights on the wreath.
I clicked on the picture, but it wouldn’t display an enlargement.
I know it’s an impossibility, but I do wish this winter we would get a little snow down here.
LOL … what a great reminder it is too …
Good morning everyone.
Morning Olivia.
The question of the day. How hot is it supposed to get up in the cold north. 🙂
It’s already 95F w/ humidity at 75% and all this at 830am … ugh 🙂
Don’t think it’s supposed to be as hot as yesterday though.
How ’bout you guys?
They’re predicting just a high of 100F with the humidity today. I think tomorrow the heat will really hit us.
I just re-read what I said. Just a high of 100F. Hah! 🙂
Hey, I think we’re going to have an Alberta clipper — it’s supposed to drop all the way down to 88 tomorrow.
If we could get rid of the humidity, it would feel a lot better as well … ugh
I better get off to work — at least there’s a/c!
🙂
Enjoy your day Olivia. Oh and enjoy the ac. 🙂
You know I remember back in April when I was already complaining about the heat and everyone was still saying we have snow. Now my northern neighbors are looking forward to 88F. Hah and double Hah. 🙂
not looking forward to 88, looking forward to October. I don’t like summer, if I could find someplace with four seasons, hardwoods forest and a temperature range between 80 and 20, I’d move there in a flash.
I’m right there with you. Although I grew up down here, these summers are killing me.
Wish I could hibernate during the summer and wake up when winter got here.
Now that I think of it, that’s what I’m trying to do. 🙂
and I’ll sign up to.
Is this Wisconsin macho? I guess I’m a winter wuss — 20 works for me; it’s cold enough to put the nip into the air, fine for snow, let’s you stay outside without worrying about frostbite, and doesn’t make the dogs hog the woodstove.
There are a number of things that I enjoy that are optimum for high teens, and I guess not hitting zero once in a while would just feel unnatural to me after all these years up north.
yesterday it was over 100 with no wind. Today is supposed to be really hot too.
Hi Booman. I really feel for the people who aren’t used to the heat. I’ve seen on the news where the cities are better prepared this year for the heat wave, but I really wonder if it’s true.
Morning olivia! I needed something to push myself out into the heat today and there it was, lurking on my hard drive.
You have all my sympathy for time spent sweltering at the fairgrounds.
I’m just back from walking in the woods where everything seems to look dried-out and chewed up.
It’s hard to believe there were so many people out there in the sauna with the kiddies and packing that nourishing fair food away;-)
Makes me want to break out the boots and snow shovels.
I haven’t been here when you’ve been here lately. Hope things are going well for you … 🙂
Good to see you. Yes, things are mostly going very well. Which is why I haven’t been around much. Very busy on the book front. I hope that life is likewise treating you well.
Good morning all! It was already up to 90 before 9AM! Stay in the shade. The brownouts are coming.
Morning Boran. I saw on your blog the new picture you’ll be starting. I think you should do two at once. 🙂
Good morning, FM! Two at once?! It’s hard enough to do one semi-competently. 😉
BTW, I really liked the lake/pond photo on your new blog.
I’ve got faith. I figure you could do five at once. 🙂
Thanks about the picture. I’ve got to get an updated one and figure out how to do a panorama. I saw you had asked O how to remove the profile. I left a comment on your b.
Hi there b2!
Good morning, Olivia! I read above that your weather is nearly as bad as mine. Stay cool!
Thanks!
I feel almost bad in letting everyone know that not only will today’s high only be 72°, according to weather.com the temperature is supposed to not break out of the seventies for the next ten days.
I crossed myself up this morning. I set the timer last night so the bread machine would come on and have bread ready for Mrs. Omir before she left for work (about two minutes ago). However that means the smell of baking bread woke me up this morning. I’m not complaining about the bread smell, I’m complaining that I have to be up this early.
Mrs. Omir appreciated the nice hot bread, though.
Hi Omir. Just persevere and maybe you’ll luck out and get some of this heat. 🙂
Fresh baked bread is always a good thing to wake up to, however waking up too early is not a good thing.
I got some last week. I wasn’t happy about it. I was just outside taking out the trash & recycling and surveying the damage to the plants, such as they are. The heat killed a bunch of our strawberries, including all of them in one container, but new growth is coming up. I need to go out later today and take out the old, withered plants.
I’ll have you know I got up, pulled the bread out of the machine, ate a thick slice (about the thickness of two normal slices) with butter and a glass of milk (and a side order of medicines), and it made me sleepy enough that I went back to sleep for two hours. I gotta remember exactly what I did with that recipe.
Save some for me, I’m coming right over.
I’ll be watching for you. It’s the green house, third from the corner.
Sounds lovely. We just got our high revised down to 80 by a big old thunderstorm that moved in last night. I’m currently on the couch with all the windows open, and it’s wonderful.
Sounds like me a couple of weeks ago. Actually I have the office window open right now and the fan running, but the temperature is only 63°, so the fan is going more up than across.
How are the book sales going?
It’s really nice to have a little cool before the pressure cookers stars climbing again next week.
Inasmuch as I have access to book sale information, I’d say they’re going well. But to say that my interaction with the actual numbers is limited would be an understatement. I do know that my publicist is happy to field email from me and is really quick about jumping on opportunities, which either means that the publisher is currently quite happy with me, or just that I have a particularly competent publicist. In either case, I’m happy about that and with the reviews and my Amazon numbers.
Morning everyone — I’m back on duty today. Like Omir, I’m feeling sort of guilty — I hope you guys are taking it easy in the heat.
Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I am feeling okay and busy as always. I haven’t been around much as I have tried sleeping a little more than before as I get over my strep throat and also still work and attend political meetings. LOL
I wanted to thank Andi for all the beautiful pictures you share with us in the cafes. between you and olivia and some of the other faithfuls who post glorious photos, you have brighten my world more than I can ever tell you.
I’m glad that make you happy — I like them a lot too. 🙂
And thanks for checking in … was wondering how you were doing!
Anybody around? There’s a large echo in here.
Hey FM…I’m back. Good thing I didn’t miss anything while I was gone. WTF? :/
I hear you Hopeful’s prediction was wrong and you were the queen of kayaking.
Queen Latifah that is.
anyway, didja have a great time?
We had a great time, even though it was suffocatingly hot on the island, like everywhere else. CG is a great cook.
Do you have some pics for us?
Just saw the comment about the water. Ick. 🙁
Getting jiggy with Blackbeard.
I do swear I think he’s blushing. 🙂
I was mighty impressed with his sword and his peg leg. If that was really a peg leg.
If that was really a peg leg.
Couldn’t tell huh. You have led a sheltered life. 🙂
It could have been that he was just happy to see us.
I was wondering since it’s a carved figure, would the peg leg be called a woodie?
I think it would definitely qualify as a woodie.
And when the boys and I stayed in Morehead City, I really enjoyed the sign that said “serving Morehead for 32 years!”
LOL you should have gotten a picture of that.
Judging by the huge grin on CG’s face, I’d say she’s getting way more out of that pegleg than you were.
Or she doesn’t hate having her picture taken as much as I do.
I think you both look great in that picture.
Ick. But thanks. 🙂
the epilogue to Dead Man’s Chest, entitled The Last Grope of Davy Jones’ Locker?
Hey Manny. How’s the day going?
My eyes were crossing from looking at a spreadsheet for so long, decided to take a number break and look at words for a few minutes 🙂 How r u?
Doing fine. Just trying to stay cool.
You’ve only got another couple of hours until quitting time and happy hour. Yaaaa Hooooo!
I don’t think I ever woke up this morning, perhaps I’ll snap out of this groggy state by the time midnight rolls around 🙂
Years ago I had a job where it seemed I was always tired and sleepy up until the exact time for quitting. Magically one minute after, I would have more than enough energy to start partying for the night. 🙂
that remark. I think it’s because I have no windows. This recycled air puts me out of sorts. Anywho, it’s almost over, as you said. I’m gonna take a walk around the complex and come back for the final stretch. Have a good afternoon!
You too Manny.
Andi was there ever any doubt that SN would be queen of kayaking.
I was going to say something about ballast in the bottom of a boat, but decided I’d better not. :~)
Helmet on.
Gee, don’t I get a grace period or something before you start making fun of me?
You’re right SN. I shouldn’t had started in right away.
You’ve got 5 minutes. 😛
Nah not much going on. Yeah sure. 🙂
Good to have you back.
It’s good to be back. Even if we came home to a notice on the door that they’d turned off our water while we were gone. I guess we shoulda paid the bill or sumpin?
So after the long car ride we all race to the nearest bathroom only to discover we cannot flush. Bad news.
You could always go over and borrow a cup of water from the neighbor.
Hmmm…a cup. I’m thinking that wouldn’t come close to providing a sufficient flush but I’ll spare you the details. How’s everyone keeping cool?
Staying inside as much as possible. Trying to do a summer hibernation.
At least it was water and not elec. Think of coming home to no ac.
I thought of that right away – thank God it wasn’t the AC. Though the water just got turned back on -yay!
I think I’m going to stay in the house with the AC cranked up and just enjoy sleeping in my own bed again. Ocracoke was magnificent and hip but I love being home again.
The happy hour is open!
