Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, a lifelong Democrat and student of politics, blanked when asked if America would be better off with his party regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
A Democratic victory would immeasurably boost the influence of two Connecticut friends, U.S. Reps. Rosa L. DeLauro and John B. Larson, and provide a counterbalance to the Republican Senate and White House.
“Uh, I haven’t thought about that enough to give an answer,” Lieberman said, as though Democrats’ strong prospects for recapturing the House hadn’t been the fall’s top political story.
He was similarly elusive about the race for governor. Is he voting for John DeStefano Jr., a Democrat and mayor of the city where Lieberman has lived since the 1960s?
“I’m, uh, I’m having,” he stammered, then laughed and said his decision would remain private.
Hehe…very clever, Booman. 😛
Just how obvious is it that he’s needing to court all those republican folks who are voting for him?? Talk about an uncoordinated walk on a fine line!!!
says it all…
I wonder if all those Republicans voting for Leiberman worry that their vote just might give the Dems a Senate majority? Or is there some other “deal” behind the scenes?
that reporters should ask every Democrat running for Representative or Senator this year, just to show the contrast.
Starting with Ned Lamont: “Would America be better off with your party regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Lamont?”
I would be interested to see how many seconds he has to think about that before answering “Yes!” Not very damn many, I’m guessing, and far fewer than sitting Senator Lieberman.

The real east coast moderate asks this simple question. Why would Lieberman give Democrats the time of day when in essence the party stabbed in the back, ala Al Gore?? 18 days until hopefully, Lamont goes the way of the dinosaue, complete extinction.
Voters making their own choice in the CT primary = the Democratic party “stabbing Lieberman in the back”?
How about all the times old Joe has stabbed the people of this country in the back with his votes providing bipartisan cover to the thugs running the country? And now you’re excited about the prospect of Joe being able to stick it to us all again in retaliation for losing his primary? The guy has behaved like a vindictive selfish petulant child, and you want him to win?
Then again, I guess he has a lot in common with you and Mr. Bush.
Wow, a pro-Liberman troll! I’ve never seen one before. I’ll have to mark in down in my troll-spotting book.
Because one party seems absolutely committed to causing your country’s massive problems, not to mention exacerbating a good chunk of the problems of countries around the world.
If Lieberman wins by accepting Republican financial and human resources and thereby proving that he is indeed without principle, he’ll caucus with the Republicans and could very well be the one to insure that Cheney’s tie breaking vote is the all important one. Lieberman is as foul as the fascists in power…more interested in staying in power than in accomplishing anything beneficial for the entire country.
Take a look at the Electoral Vote web site on Monday. He highlights the 23 women (14 Dems and 9 Reps) who are running in the 50 hottest house races (on the home page, scroll down). Interesting stuff.
