Over too fast. It’s been busy. I had some work stuff to do, I canvassed for McCaskill yesterday (4 hours) and today (3 hours), I had a brunch with friends and of course there’s baseball to watch. 🙂
Right now I’m doing laundry and getting ready for tomorrow.
OK, I can breathe again because Reyes got through the first inning. Even though he walked two. He’s only a baby and I keep remembering how Duncan and LaRussa ruined Rick Ankiel his rookie year in the playoffs.
Well as much as I know about hockey I’ve learn here. I’m still trying to become a fan, but my pond doesn’t freeze up enough for me to learn to skate. So once again, my main game is Tiddly Winks.
Hello all-hope your Sunday is a relaxed one. Am having some more trouble with anxiety attacks and so am going out for a bike ride to see if a bit of exercise will help. Rats! i thought I was nearly done with this!
I tried to take a photo of this fellows scat, but it was getting dark and my flash doesn’t work.
This is the best I could do with the image. It’s not pretty but it does convey the squarish shape (that’s my toe for size comparison – also, I tend to go barefoot when photographing animals because I make less noise).
By poop, and in this case, in poop, as there is just tons of it anywhere marsupials graze (including the lawns aroung our house). Fortunately it’s mostly dry.
I was about to make a very bad joke related to tootsie rolls, but I won’t. I am glad you scanned this from a book. I was afraid you had actually scanned some poop!
The grasses that wombats eat take 8-14 days to pass through their bodies. Because they are such effiecient digesters, they eat very little food (about a third of what a similarly sized kangaroo would eat) and drink almost no water (about a quarter of what a kangaroo would – and the desert varities [like the Hairy-nosed Wombat] may drink no water at all). So, by the time the little “brick” of digested grass gets expelled, it’s completely dessicated (and not shaped by the exiting oriface).
That thought had occured to me as well, but that would only explain the “top” side coming out flat.
Wombats for those of you still interested, have a hard plate under the skin of their rump (as in motorcycle helmet strong). They are burrowing animals, and in the event of an attack, they present their armored derrier to the attacker, and then attempt to draw them into their burrow, where they will then crush their attacker’s skull against the roof of the burrow.
Wombats are very, very strong, and favor going through rather than around as a tactic. Imogen was taken out at the knees by one during a University field trip.
Indeed. And just last week, one of my colleagues was bemoaning the fact (as he saw it) that no one out of college had any curiosity about scientific matters. Huh! what does he know?
He’s working on his class newsletter for the week (he gives individual info for each kid, so it’s a big hassle). He has a whole new class as of last Thursday, so he’s been swamped with work today.
I hab a bery bad code, so I’m not doing much. Laundry. Avoiding writing a test. Avoiding work on taxes. Not vacuuming. Not. . .you get the picture.
Last spring, Ken was quite sick at ordinary tax time. And our tax lady decided to quit the business. We asked for an extension. Tomorrow is the deadline!
It really isn’t hard to finish, just that I’ve been procrastinating like mad.
So, we aren’t early, we are late late late!
But not overdue.
What does someone around here have to do to get a drink?
GEEZE!
I’m studying for a midterm I have tomorrow in accounting. Wish I could have a drink, but alas, I shan’t. :/
Hello Psi, it’s good to see you.
It seems like you just started school again, how could you have mid terms so fast?
Don’t answer that, stupid question. 🙂
Here’s a virtual beer for you.
No Psi, you’re studying. So I’ll take that beer off your hands 🙂
How ya doing FM?
Hi Mary.
I’m doing fine. How’s your weekend been going?
Over too fast. It’s been busy. I had some work stuff to do, I canvassed for McCaskill yesterday (4 hours) and today (3 hours), I had a brunch with friends and of course there’s baseball to watch. 🙂
Right now I’m doing laundry and getting ready for tomorrow.
Just a normal slackerly weekend.
Doesn’t sound too slackerly to me.
Then again, getting out of the recliner is a lot of work for me. 🙂
Ahem…no one touches alcohol designated for me unless I give permission. 😛
That beer is long, long gone. Can’t leave them sitting around in the lounge or someone will drink them 😉
How much sleep have you had? (I’m pretending I’m Andi right now and being a mother hen).
To late. 😛
… but I think I’m going to need one — a strong one … or two … or a million … 🙂
One gazillion coming up. 🙂
How ya doing?
I’m doing fine, but sounds like you need a drink. I know Andi doesn’t like them, but have something in neon. 🙂
🙂
You should know there’s always a neon drink here.
That is unless George gets there first. 🙂
How is he doing … Haven’t much about George lately.
or is FF stuff driving you nuts?
Are you kidding? She’s Ms. multi-tasker! The FF is just a little side thing. 🙂
lol … yeah, I think I need some high-test fuel to get me going again.
Or maybe … a hockey game to get you revved up?
Blues beat Chicago yesterday! It’s hard for me to get too excited about the Blues. It’s a “rebuilding” year. 😉
Who are the Blues? A baseball team? 🙂
OK, I can breathe again because Reyes got through the first inning. Even though he walked two. He’s only a baby and I keep remembering how Duncan and LaRussa ruined Rick Ankiel his rookie year in the playoffs.
The Blues are the St. Louis NHL team. Hockey.
Oh yeah Hockey. Aren’t they one of those little teams that played the Stanley Cup winners. Weren’t the winners from Alabama or Carolina?
Helmet ON!
Actually I think “one of those little teams that played the Stanley Cup Winners” describes the Blues quite well. No arguments from me.
Hi Soup. Hope the bike ride helps.
(giving Albert stiff competition in the “cutest” catagory)
This was taken in very low light, hence the blur.
Hellooooo keres.
Nothing could give Alber competition. I haven’t seen anything that comes close yet.
I’d give Albert your reasurances, but he was never worried. 🙂
those are the cute little animals with the square poop, right?
He IS cute. But not as cute as Albert. I he a curmudgeon too?
Yep, they’re the square poopers. But they are not so little. This fella probably weighs 30-40lbs, and they can easily get twice that size.
I don’t know if they are curmudgeonly, but they are not very social.
You aren’t serious about the square poop are you?
Yep, we’re serious about the square poop. I’d send you a sample, but I doubt it would get through US customs.
Thanks for the thought, but……. 🙂
Ok, that brought me out of lurker mode. How is square poop possible? Does the thing have a square anus? :0)
Now I’m fixated on wombat poop. Wikipedia says nothing about square poops. NOTHING about square poop I tell you!!!
Proof, just for you
Are you sure that’s square? Looks round sort of.
click the link
I wonder if there’s a wiki link for Mr. Nature’s poops. I’m sure they’re record-setters. Ok. Ick.
I tried to take a photo of this fellows scat, but it was getting dark and my flash doesn’t work.
This is the best I could do with the image. It’s not pretty but it does convey the squarish shape (that’s my toe for size comparison – also, I tend to go barefoot when photographing animals because I make less noise).
keres I salute you! How many other tribbers would walk barefoot by poop to get a picture. 🙂
By poop, and in this case, in poop, as there is just tons of it anywhere marsupials graze (including the lawns aroung our house). Fortunately it’s mostly dry.
I wish the dogs that run around my neighborhood would be kind enough to leave it dry. 🙁
Young Australian Magpie, landing on a poop covered marsupial lawn (as in a lawn of native grasses favoried by maruspiala).
I’m skeptical. That looks like a couple of charcoal bricquettes that have been dropped on the ground.
Why do I think I’ll be scouring our bush later this afternoon in order to provide proof positive?
I scanned this from our copy of “Tracks, Scats, and Other Traces: A Field Guide to Australian Mammals”
This is the crappiest lounge we’ve had in a long time 🙂
I’m convinced. 🙂
So, that’s the poop on poop.
I was about to make a very bad joke related to tootsie rolls, but I won’t. I am glad you scanned this from a book. I was afraid you had actually scanned some poop!
Finally! So now we have to talk square poop to get you to deleurk.
The grasses that wombats eat take 8-14 days to pass through their bodies. Ok, that dispels my notion of his exiting orifice as some sort of Play-Doh extruder.
Really. I thought it had to do with the cartilege on its butt.
it’s funny though, if you google wombat it takes you to a website about bisexual women.
Only if you click that you’re feeling lucky 😉
That thought had occured to me as well, but that would only explain the “top” side coming out flat.

Your knowledge of fauna and flora is truly astonishing.
(I hope Imogen didn’t need a joint replacement!)
It is so gratifying to see such a high-toned scientific discussion here.
It’s keeping me from obsessing about the game 😉
I know what you mean. Our only TV that gets the game is in the basement, so laundry is extra popular – or not at all so, tonight.
Hi Kidspeak.
You noticed we only speak in the most high brow way huh. 🙂
Indeed. And just last week, one of my colleagues was bemoaning the fact (as he saw it) that no one out of college had any curiosity about scientific matters. Huh! what does he know?
Nothing about poop that’s for sure!
So what are you and teach doing tonight?
He’s working on his class newsletter for the week (he gives individual info for each kid, so it’s a big hassle). He has a whole new class as of last Thursday, so he’s been swamped with work today.
I hab a bery bad code, so I’m not doing much. Laundry. Avoiding writing a test. Avoiding work on taxes. Not vacuuming. Not. . .you get the picture.
It seems early to avoid working on taxes. Usually I avoid working on taxes after the first of the year.
Right now I’m avoiding watching the Mets finally catch on to the Cardinals’ middle reliever problem.
We’re talking Hockey again aren’t we?
Sorry, I’m confused. I’m going back and forth between here and Orange where I AM having a baseball discussion.
If this was hockey I’d be talking about a power play problem. 🙂
Oh so we don’t have your undivided attention?
Shot down by Mary again. 😛
but you have the BEST part of my attention 🙂
Well since you put it that way. 🙂
Hope your code gets better. I hate fall codes.
Taxes? You two are very early planners. 🙂
I’ve got faith! Code or no code I know it will get done. 🙂
Maria Island is where the wombat lives, and where we spent the weekend.
That is absolutely beautiful keres. I can only dream about seeing something like that.
