Reese and Ryan. No surprise there. I told katiebird they were splitting up last year during the golden globes when he was jumping around like an idiot pretending to be extra supportive of her. I’m surprised it took them this long.
Is anybody else nervous about Cheney hunting on Election Day? It a close race, he could make the difference with a double-barrelled loaded with spreaders. He could take down a few dozen voters at a time.
Much as I love Parchessi (I once bought a old set on eBay), I have to pack it in. If I’m tired and crabby tomorrow, I’m likely to say something to my idiot principal that will make life difficult. Take care and get some sleep folks.
I know I’m voting for Claire and voting yes on Amendment 2 (stem cells). I need to figure out the other 36 things I’m voting on before I go to bed. So I don’t have to think when I go to the polls tomorrow morning.
One of the theories of low voter turnout in the US compared, say, to Indonesia is that there are too many things on our ballots that are too complicated. So voters get turned off. Whereas in Indonesia, they vote seldom and usually only on a couple of things. So they get really high turnout.
It was relatively easy, actually. There were a lot of judicial races that were unopposed, and a bunch of no-brainer initiatives and referendums (no to scrapping the estate tax, yes to mandating investment in alternative energy generation). I only had to do research on two or three of them.
I believe you. I had about that many bout about nine of them were unopposed judicial races, nine or ten were procedural amendments to the city charter (striking references to sections excised from the charter in 1955 and stuff like that), and most of the rest were races and initiatives I’d made up my mind about a long time ago.
Updated SUSA poll came out late tonight — still shows Claire ahead link
Our judge ballot issues are a little different here. We don’t elect judges. An independent bipartisan commission selects judges and the governor is required by law to appoint them. Then a couple of years later we vote whether to retain them in office or kick them out. They don’t run campaigns; there’s no election information. Which is actually great. BUT you have to research them through the bar association site and read the surveys that were done of bar members and jurors (where applicable.). It’s time consuming.
No, it’s only about 10:30 here. Of course we burn the midnight oil about 10 PM around these parts.
I know what you mean. While I think the Democrats should be able to pull this out, I’m as nervous as a seven-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. You know the old movies where the guy is behind the barricade with his buddy, and a harmonica plays in the background on the night before the big battle? That’s me.
Hey just don’t be one of the bit players. You wouldn’t want to be one of those new people on Star Trek with a different colored tunic who you know is going to get knocked off at the beginning of the story.
I remember a comedian doing a bit about that one time. “Yeah, we’re going to put together a landing party. Me, Spock, Bones, Sulu, Scotty and Kowalski.” You always knew which one was going to get eaten by the Denebian slime monster.
Clean tables and free peanuts.
Can I throw the shells on the floor?
Very good. Clean tables and what a cool nightlight.
Mmm…glowing goldschlager. Let’s make jello shots.
for jello shots we need Damnit Janet.
Does she have the recipe?
I think maryb thinks she has a whole fridge full of them, already made or something.
Janet doesn’t need a recipe — she’s the jello shot queen and can whip up a batch at the drop of a hat.
Anybody got a hat?
Hate to do it, but I keep nodding off, so I’m heading to bed.
Night all
May this your last night in captivity.
G’night, FM!
You’ll be up again later. I just feel it.
oops, sorry. That probably doesn’t make YOU happy.
I’m suspect that many of us will sleep poorly tonight.
I’m tired, but I’ve got that edgy, something’s happening itchiness that won’t let me sleep.
Waiting for martial law to be declared will do that to a person.
Or does no one else remember that we’re not having mid-term elections because Bush is going to declare martial law?
That’s one I never bought. I don’t think they could pull that one off.
You don’t say? Oh ye of little faith; you’ll never be let into the inner sanctum with the BIG conspiracy theorists … 😉
That’s OK. I had an inner sanctum infection once, and I can live without another.
I know I will.
This has been SUCH a stressful October/November. A tied election. A World Series. A Meetup in Chicago … 🙂
I’ve got a mystery to finish. I should probably go read it. It’s set in Ansterdam and nobody talks about America.
And don’t forget the Nick and Jessica split. Such a stressful time. 😉
OMG you’re RIGHT! But what has been even more stressful is the Whitney/Bobby split up, not to mention the whole Madonna adoption fiasco.
Did Madonna adopt Bobby or Whitney?
Bobby, with an option for Whitney.
I figured adopting Whitney would cause more of fuss. Just goes to show you.
And don’t forget Jennifer and Vince. Are they broken up or not?
And what about Nicole, now that Keith’s in rehab? Will she be going to TomKat’s wedding without a date?
Keith’s in rehab? I missed that. I can’t wait for this election to be over so I can catch up on the real news.
I’m not sure but I think vincifer broke up.
Obviously you’ve been preoccupied if you could possibly have missed the Nicole/keith thing. But that’s old news now, cuz Reese and Ryan have split up.
Reese and Ryan. No surprise there. I told katiebird they were splitting up last year during the golden globes when he was jumping around like an idiot pretending to be extra supportive of her. I’m surprised it took them this long.
If only I had your insight.
There’s a precedent here. She didn’t get lucky at Tom’s first wedding either.
True enough.
LOL!
What would we do without you to remind us of all the important news of the month?
Could we not talk about it. I can only stand so much pain.
Is anybody else nervous about Cheney hunting on Election Day? It a close race, he could make the difference with a double-barrelled loaded with spreaders. He could take down a few dozen voters at a time.
I’ll catch you all in the morning.
G’night,CG!
Now what will we do?
Karaoke? foosball? Parcheesi?
Much as I love Parchessi (I once bought a old set on eBay), I have to pack it in. If I’m tired and crabby tomorrow, I’m likely to say something to my idiot principal that will make life difficult. Take care and get some sleep folks.
Good night all! You too, Mary!
OK Mary was right. I’m awake again.
I can’t decide whether to try to go back to sleep, or throw it all to the wind and say I’m up.
Anyone around?
I’m up until I figure out how to vote tomorrow.
I know I’m voting for Claire and voting yes on Amendment 2 (stem cells). I need to figure out the other 36 things I’m voting on before I go to bed. So I don’t have to think when I go to the polls tomorrow morning.
I would ask how’re you’re doing, but I can see you are pondering the complexity of life. 🙂
why City Charter Amendments have to be written in an unintelligable manner. I’m a lawyer and I don’t understand them.
I’m thinking of just voting against all of them. Which seems very slackerly of me.
It’s got you confused? My god what about the non-lawyer type of people?
I’ve never been against any unslackerly thing, however with voting…. Slacking and voting just don’t seem to mix.
One of the theories of low voter turnout in the US compared, say, to Indonesia is that there are too many things on our ballots that are too complicated. So voters get turned off. Whereas in Indonesia, they vote seldom and usually only on a couple of things. So they get really high turnout.
What time will you vote tomorrow?
Now it’s all clear. 🙂
Hopefully after the voting you’ll get some slack tme and start relaxing soon.
I mailed in my ballot on Friday so I’m set.
It was relatively easy, actually. There were a lot of judicial races that were unopposed, and a bunch of no-brainer initiatives and referendums (no to scrapping the estate tax, yes to mandating investment in alternative energy generation). I only had to do research on two or three of them.
ballot.
Including 18 judges.
and 11 special items (amendments, propositions, etc.)
I believe you. I had about that many bout about nine of them were unopposed judicial races, nine or ten were procedural amendments to the city charter (striking references to sections excised from the charter in 1955 and stuff like that), and most of the rest were races and initiatives I’d made up my mind about a long time ago.
Good luck. Here’s hoping Claire pulls it out.

but sleep is not far off.
How goes it?
Hi Omir. It goes well at the moment. Within 24 hours I don’t know.
I would ask how you’re late night is, but it’s not late hour to you is it?
No, it’s only about 10:30 here. Of course we burn the midnight oil about 10 PM around these parts.
I know what you mean. While I think the Democrats should be able to pull this out, I’m as nervous as a seven-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. The one with the harmonica, that is.

Yep it was no doubt who was not going to be back the next episode. 🙂
My biggest problem now is whether to make a cup of coffee and start the day or try to go back to sleep.
Have you seen it yet?
I heard it was really good, is it?
I enjoyed it. I’ve never seen any Monty Python movies (I know, I know) so I didn’t know what to expect.
Yeah I never saw the life of brian, but I heard the movie was good, so I figured the show would be good too.
I’m retaining all the judges, you’ll be happy to hear 🙂
I’m off to bed. Hopefully the world will change for the better tomorrow!
Good night Mary. Hope your today to come is a pleasant one.
