I’m not too surprised to hear that Crazy Curt Weldon has been judged wrong about Able Danger. Thank god that lunatic was beaten by Joe Sestak.
It’s raining here in Philly. Just a little colder and it would be a white Christmas. Oh well. How’s everyone’s holiday going?
Had a pleasant day with the in-laws…got some cool stuff; spouse got me the PJs I wanted, plus a gift card for Kohl’s (which I might use towards the juicer I really want if they have it). The book I wanted will come later when we find it: Helen Thomas’ Watchdogs of Democracy?.
Everyone liked the gifts we(I) selected — I did good this year. 🙂
Now time to try and get life back to normalcy…
I just located the book on the library new books shelf the other day and brought it home. Its a fairly quick read and very enjoyable, IMHO. Lots of interesting history there for the politically and/or journalistically inclined. I found a quote there I think will be my new sig for 2007. New hopes for a new year and a new and improved congress (they better be!) 😉
To all a good night and good cheer.
Merry Christmas, Booman! I hope you will recover soon.
This was our Christmas menu:
Amuse-bouche : Tarama au corail d’oursin
Entrée : Saint-Jacques au chorizo
Plat : Ris de veau aux morilles accompagnés de ravioles dans une sauce aux morilles
Fromages : Rocamadour, Picodon, Charolais, Roquefort
Dessert : Sorbet à l’orange sanguine et aux épices
Vins : Pouilly-Fuissé, Moulis en Médoc
sea urchins?
what kind of spices do you put in a blood-orange sorbet?
And what is a Saint-Jacques?
Hmmm… I’ve only experienced Saint Jacques as a wonderful creamy wine and cheese sauce used in this recipe, one of my all-time favorites. I’m not sure how that would work au chorizo, so I may be totally off base with my guess.
It was the first time I tried this recipe. i bought it at my local traiteur. The scallops were prepared in a creamy sauce with small slices of chorizo. It is really delicious!
You can also prepare them en brochette with only some olive oil.
Yes, sea urchins
Coquille Saint-Jacques is the French word for Scallop
I don’t know what kind of spices were put in the blood-orange sorbet, but it was great!
We had a very quiet day. Except when the boran2boy jumped up and down on me, pulled my arm, yelled in my ear and demanded to know why we could’t go buy a new game for his gameboy. Yep, quiet, that’s how we like it.
so, what’s your excuse?
About the game? The stores are SO closed.
Don’t hate me. We had a 70 degree day here in Los Angeles. Clear skies, except for the contrails/chemtrails/whatevertrails that were crossed in a diamond pattern in the sky. Someone was busy this morning.
I saw Dreamgirls, and it was fabulous!!! I’m predicting now it will win the Oscar for best picture of the year. If it doesn’t, it will have been robbed. (And this after seeing Babel, the Good Shepherd, and the other ‘big films’ touted for this year.) I actually think The Illusionist should be nominated, but it seems no one can win an Oscar anymore without a heavy and expensive ad campaign. You can’t open Variety or the Hollywood Reporter or even the LA Times these days without seeing ‘campaign ads’ for best this or that. Ah well.
I haven’t seen the Painted Veil, but I hear that’s lovely and fascinating. Maybe next week.
Lastly – I gave everyone in my family the gift of a new artist – Jason Robert Brown. His music is filled with complex emotional stories set to lyrical music and often, incredible rhythmic punch. Highly recommended for Sondheim and Schwartz lovers. You can hear some of his music for free at http://www.jasonrobertbrown.com.
I hope everyone here had a lovely three-day weekend. Now, back to the grindstone, ugh….
Had a wonderful, quiet Christmas with my brother, SIL and neice.
But here’s my Christmas present to myself and the light of my life right now:
She’s all of 2 pounds 9 ounces and her name is Pax. She had an absolutely wonderful Christmas, getting to meet my SIL’s chihuaha Daisy and playing ALL day.
And yes, my hope is that naming her Pax is prophetic!!
Awww!
I’m at the folks’ place in NJ, with my kid. I’m having fun, but my mother’s menagerie of cats and dogs is making my allergies go crazy. I’m putting away the albuterol, which I only use when I come here, like some kind of junkie…
See y’all tuesday, maybe.
what a cute puppy!!!!!!
