I’m living with war everyday
I’m living with war in my heart every day
I’m living with war right nowAnd when the dawn breaks I see my fellow man
And on the flat-screen we kill and we’re killed again
And when the night falls, I pray for peace
Try to remember peace (visualize)–Neil Young, Living with War
Tonight, the President will give his annual State of the Union address. Early indications are that he is going to focus his comments on domestic policy.
This may be a wise move on his part, because as we know his foreign policy is a nightmare.
On the other hand, we have just come off an election in which the people spoke loud and clear : Iraq is the issue. We know what we want. Do something about it.
And now the President wants to do the exact opposite of the people’s mandate : He wants to increase the number of troops in Iraq. There is substantial evidence that he may even want to commit military resources to broaden the war in the region and pre-emptively strike Iran.
We already led our leaders on this issue in November. And many in the co-equal legislative branch did hear us. We’ve already seen senior Republican leaders split with the President on his policy, from Chuck Hagel, to John Warner, to Sam Brownback.
We are close.
This weekend, we have a chance to remind them in their own city of business that they work for us, and we demand they do better.
If you can, join me and many other BooTribbers, kossacks, and myleftwingers this weekend in DC, and let’s make sure they remember what they’re in Washington to do.
Information on meeting up on Saturday morning can be found on the Blogger’s March page.
To the people up top, on the side and the middle,
Come together, let’s all form and stomp just a little
Just let it gradually build, from the front to the back
All you can see is a sea of people, some white and some black
Don’t matter what color, all that matters is we gathered together
To celebrate for the same cause, no matter the weather
If it rains let it rain, yea the wetter the better
They ain’t gonna stop us, they can’t, we’re stronger now more then ever.— Eminem, Mosh

As an added bonus, if you come you may get a chance to meet BooTribbers ejmw, supersoling, wilfred, tampopo, Man Eegee, CabinGirl, BooMan, JanetT in MD, Jaded Prole, probably others, and many, many kossacks.
Where will you all meet?
This is the plan for right now:
Starbucks Coffee: Liberty Place 325 7th St NW Washington, DC 20004
Starbucks Coffee: Liberty Place 325 7th St NW Washington, DC 20004 (202) 628 5044 This is literally at the Archives/Navy Memorial stop on the DC Metro for those without transportation.
From RenaF:
From UFPJ:
I think Rena said that she’s going to be there and that people will probably start filtering in around 10.
That’s a great place to meet. Any plans for meeting later in the day? I have to work (groan) but I’ll be done by 3:00.
Thanks again! Do keep me posted. I’d like to meet folks this time!
Hi AP,
There’s been talk of maybe hitting a happy hour somewhere after the march, but no solid plans. I have never been to DC, so I have no clue where the good watering holes are.
So, we can either start planning something ahead of time, or if you want to send me an email, I can give you my cell# so we can get in touch after the march.
Oh good. I actually may be able to see what the crowd looks like, how big, etc. You know I can’t depend on the WP to give me an accurate recitation of the facts. :<(
Anyway, will keep me my eyes on the diary section. How cool is it that this is your first visit to DC. I think you’ll enjoy it. There’s so much more than merely “official Washington” to DC. More about that later. Meanwhile, don’t forget to check your e-mail!
RenaRF and I were talking about this, and I think we’re going to decide where to go afterwards once we’re together at Starbucks — and indeed, that particular gathering will start at 10 AM

Thanks, I will update it immediately!
Also, to add to my earlier comment, I believe that Salunga is going to be coming to DC as well.
violated the Procrastinator Code by starting the packing process. That’s how excited I am for this opportunity to register my displeasure to BushCo in person.
I’ll be in town Friday night. Anyone else gonna be around?
Sadly I’m not getting into town unil early Saturday morning.
I too have violated the Procrastinator Code. Especially after watching that SOTU, I can’t wait for this weekend.
that it was more prudent to spend a gift certificate at Barnes and Noble than listen to his verbal diarrhea. 🙂
I’m excited/jittery for the weekend. The shirt that I’m planning to wear Saturday arrived today via UPS, can’t wait to pick it up at the office tomorrow.
The weather appears to be cooperating at the moment for us, I’m glad for that.
No need to be jittery (not that my saying so will stop it, of course). But we’re going there to do what we can, and that’s exactly what we’ll do.
I hope the weather helps us out this weekend. I’m planning on documenting it for posterity.
I’m coming in Friday night but I think I’ll hang out in Maryland till Sat. morning since ej won’t be there till Sat and others ;o) have different plans for Fri night. Maybe we can all or most or some of us get together Sat. night instead? CG and BooMan are staying at the same hotel as ej and myself. Maybe we can wreck the place…you know, throw the tvs out the windows and shit like that :o)
we have to keep BooMan’s amigos in the shady white van occupied somehow O:-)
… but that’s only to be expected. What time are you arriving Friday? Do you have your transportation arranged, or do you need a ride to/fro? Anyone else? Are there plans for Friday evening?
I have a friend in Virginia who’s putting up with me for the weekend so I’m good to go. No plans on Friday as of yet, just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone was planning to congregate. Lookin’ forward to meeting ya!
Sorry we can’t be there in person, ej. We will be with you in spirit. Please be safe – all of you.
i won’t be there early enough for the coffee meet-up so i’ll have to look out during the rally… although i’m allergic to orange 🙂
I don’t know for sure, but judging by the response to some of the diaries at dKos, those who will be there wearing orange will be representing the best that dKos has to offer. I think we will find much camaraderie there.
If you’re interested in meeting up during the march, shoot me an email…I’d be happy to give you my cell number and we can figure things out on Saturday.
Once the rally starts we’ll move from Starbucks to the Mall, and we’ll probably hang out near the intersection of 7th St. NW and Madison until the March actually starts at 1 PM.
As for wearing orange, don’t feel bad. I’ll actually be wearing my Purple ePluribus Media shirt — over an Orange Hoodie — so if you wear aBooman-style Green you won’t be clashing nearly as bad as I will be…
I’m allergic to Starbucks ;o)
Last time out I didn’t care for the Orange bandana thing, but the people I met were exemplary. Tampopo, who didn’t wear orange comes to mind :o) Besides, we’re not there for dKos, BT, or any other particular blog or organization. We’re there as concerned citizens trying to do what we can to make things right. But you already know this ;o)
God, I SO want to be there with you all. Unfortunately, I am beginning to learn how to put duty before partying and cannot attend. My heart is with you – take care of each other.
