You want to know what is boring? It’s boring to discuss the Blogad purchasing choices of Hillary Clinton. She bought an ad here and I’m grateful. I need a lot more ad buys. Does it change how I view her? Not in the slightest. You know what will impress me? When she creates an account and posts a diary, and sticks around to answer a few questions.
I’d also be a lot more impressed if the whole establishment of the Democratic Party took any concern whatsoever for the financial health of the netroots. And by that, I don’t mean primarily politicians running for election, but donors that ignore us and let us go on fending for ourselves, without health insurance.
As for Hillary, we know what her people think of us. Paul Begala said of Howard Dean that he didn’t need ‘some asshole from Vermont to tell him what to do’. Well…the netroots, taken as a whole, wanted Howard Dean to chair the DNC. The netroots wanted Howard Dean to have a major role in telling Democrats how to run the party. So, if Begala feels that way about Dean then he basically thinks we are all just ‘assholes from Vermont’. And that is how I view Hillary’s campaign. They are implacable foes. They are to be opposed.
She has some time to change perceptions, but not too much time. And I haven’t seen anything yet to soften my stance. Thanks for the money Ms. Clinton, but I ain’t biting.
Guess you had better spend that money miserly style because she ain’t likely to come back after that denouncement. Good for you Booman. At least we know you can’t be bought. I love how her campaign is already saying she is polling very high with the netroots. Not according to the straw polls Kos has been doing. She is practically at the bottom. She learned at least one thing in the White House and that is how to spin. Well Hil, we ain’t buying it.
Don’t count on it. You may be right, but I’d bet dollars to donuts she and her people will never even see the denouncement. All they’ll see is whether boomantribune.com pulled in the hits for them when they get the report from the Blogads people.
Although boring, Hillary’s BlogAd puchasing choices are instructive, aren’t they? Powerline, for Chrissakes?
Yeah, I don’t know what Peter Daou was thinking.
That’s right! That’s why I’m not coming back here until you buy an ad on Where are the candidates?….
oh, I don’t have ads (yet), okay, then on BlueNC!!!
{ /snark }
Then it probably wouldn’t be a good time to tell you that Joe Lieberman wants to place an ad here. At least that’s what I’ve heard. 😉
Vermont, not Connecticut.
This might be OT, but what worries me is hearing her campaign chair last night on Hardball crowing about the idea that big states like California and Florida are working on moving their primaries up on the calendar and how that changes the “money game” in the primaries. That is a sure way to make sure Hillary wins the nomination. Haven’t heard much about this – do people think its going to happen? If so, I’d say we might as well annoint Hil as the nominee and go back to irrelevance. Or can the netroots get behind another nominee and raise enough $ to challenge her? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Money is important but it is not everything.
Bill Bradley actually raised more money than Al Gore, but he couldn’t convince the media to take him seriously. He also made some bad choices, like withholding his Michael Jordan endorsement commercials until it was too late. He lost NH by 4,000 votes and McCain upset Bush. The media forgot about Bradley and no amount of money, and he had plenty, could get him any oxygen.
So, part of combatting Hillary is insisting that other candidates get coverage. They are already trying to make this a two-way race, even though Edwards is polling ahead in Iowa. We can’t allow that to happen.
I was thinking of the populists in the Senate: Webb, Tester, Brown, Dorgan. They, by the way, are all from certainly or potentially important states in 08.
I would like to think that if we start right here, right now today, that we could do it. I am certain that we could. It would take alot of hard work but look what hard work got George…lol!
it will have a large part in determininng wether the party will be largely corporatocratic or democratic in the future.
The corporatocrats realize this, and want to ensure their gal gets the nod any way possible. The democratic wing of the party needs to consolidate behind a candidate fast. That’s why I feel that Gore needs to give some kind of clear signal fast.
Suppose Hillary had the money but, this month, John Edwards got the endorsements of Webb (VA), Sherrod Brown (OH), Byron Dorgan (ND), Russ Feingold (WI) and Al Gore. Suppose, also, that Edwards announced he would be running with Richardson and Clark, who would be his VP and Sec. State. What money could beat that?
Richardson is no leftist, but he, or someone of similar weight, could get behind an Edwards candidacy if it showed strenght early on.
Just linked to this post from my blog. I’d already done my own little “No way, Hillary!” rant yesterday. And I accompanied it with pictures…
I don’t expect, nor even want, the Democratic Party to support the netroots. Party, we don’t need no stinking party. If the netroots can raise money for Dean’s campaign and work as Party chair, support MoveOn, and DFA, and many others, than we should be able to support our own communities. If we are progressives, then let’s be progressive about stabilizing the economic base of the blogosphere.
Let’s meet and thrash out a plan to support each other in our various roles. Philadelphia’s got a good track record for Constitutional Conventions, especially with air-conditioning for those muggy August days. Let’s work together to get insurance for those of us who need it. We are a large group with sharp minds of varied backgrounds and experiences. We could do much, if we focused on the nitty gritty nasty little issues of money and such. Here’s a handy slogan,”From each according to their ability, to each according to their need.” It might work, it might not. But if we do not challenge and change the economic reality, it will bite us in the ass.
I mistakenly logged in as Kidspeak.
I followed the links in the diary and am now better informed on the issues. Now I know that I don’t know much about the problem. So much is being done, on so many fronts, that I am unaware of. My enthusiasm for a solution is genuine, so accept my feeble calls for action in that spirit.
Hillary may win the Democratic nomination and that may be her goal. I don’t believe that she or any of her followers believe that she will win the Presidency. Not only do I want a winner as the Democratic nominee but I want a person who has the potential to be an outstanding President.
Has anyone tried to “Be a part of the conversation”? I noticed that one can “submit” a post, but somehow I doubt highly that HillaryCorp will permit posts which are critical of her positions on Iraq, banking, and health care.
Speaking of permitting “posts critical of her positions” I saw that Jim Webb’s Born Fighting PAC allows critical comments! Anonymous posts in a small box pass by one-by-one. I saw a mix that were pro and con Jim’s positions.
