Cute story in WaPo about a retired German chauffeur who breeds giant, 23-pound gray rabbits. He plans to provide some to help ease the food situation in North Korea (I hope that’s the reason). The critters are as big as a beagle, and so heavy they can’t even hop. This is a sweet respite from the solemnity today at the DNC.

Retired, mother of three, grandmother of three. Have followed politics since days of Truman, when my Dad and I listened to conventions on the car radio so as not to disturb the rest of the family! News junkie, voracious reader.
Don’t tell my daughter. She’s a budding animal rights activist, lol. She’s a vegetarian only in the sense she won’t eat meat (cheese, milk, no problem) because she has this affinity for animals.
Steven, this man is an animal activist in that he has such concern that the 6 rabbits sent are being taken care of properly that he hopes to be able to check up on them in April. What I missed earlier is that to grow this large, the rabbits need an amazing amount of foodstuffs. I wondered if this could call up the animal respect of the Koreans to put more of whatever energy they have into producing foodstuffs, whether for rabbits or humans, or, as we sloganize, making butter not guns.
