The fence for Luna’s yard is now strung along one side and across the back. There’s still the other side and then two short lengths on either side of the house, plus two farm gates which need to be hung, and two people gates which need to be built from scratch and hung.
So, it’s still a long way from being done, but we’ll get there eventually.
Oh, and when it’s done, then our front door will be blessedly free from muddy/streaky dog paw prints – like the ones in the photo above.
I think we’re full-up with “visial effects” created by the critters. And no doubt Luna will add a few new techniques to her artistic pallet once turned loose in her new area.
On another blog, someone mentioned how today yesterday was 7-7-07 and asked if anything lucky had occurred.
Here was my comment:
Yes.
We adopted a dog from the animal shelter today. I last had a dog in 1992 after I sold my first house and moved into an apartment. My ex mother in law, a good dog woman, took Jeb where she spoiled him. When Ms. Carnacki and I bought this house, I wanted to get another dog. That was 10 years ago. She was pregnant at the time and didn’t want to have to deal with a dog and a baby. So we agreed as soon as everyone was potty trained we’d get a dog. We actually waited a couple years past that but still it’s been 10 years ago since we first talked about it and the longest period in my life since I’ve lived without a dog.
At the shelter today — and we noted the lucky date — we saw a couple we wanted to take home. But the one I really was attracted to was a dog much bigger and older than we had talked about.
Lucy is almost 10 years old and nearly 100 pounds and there’s not any fat on her. She’s just BIG. An older woman whose diability had gotten worse couldn’t take care of her any more and couldn’t find anyone to adopt her. The shelter people said she had cried when she dropped Lucy off and I can see why.
She’s an extremely gentle, well mannered dog. Very good with the children, who absolutely adore her
I know we won’t have many years with her. She’s old and big dogs don’t usually live long lives. But we couldn’t have picked a better dog in the whole world.
So to answer your question, yes I got lucky today.
BTW, we kept the name Lucy. I particularly liked it since Lucy Westenra is the main character of my vampire novel, The Mystery of the Haunted Vampire.
George is such an inside air conditioned dog, I would be afraid to leave him outside for a long period of time. Afraid he might get heat stroke. Plus he would start howling so loud to get in, I’d probably have the neighbors coming over and saying let the damn dog in. 🙂
Ah, the dog days of summer (which actually have to do with the appearance of Sirius, the Dog Star, in the northern sky, but it works for over heated puppies as well).
That being a major difference between dogs and premenopausal women who don’t have to move a muscle to need to cool off. Is it hot in here or is it just me…
… and a few million other women. It’s a pissy payoff for decades of messing with tampons but when it’s all done you get to be a happy post-menopausal woman.
Heckle and son look pretty hungry.
How’s the dog walk area for Luna coming?

Have you figured out anything yet on the spot you don’t want Luna digging at?
Getting a composting toilet, and back filling the septic has my vote.
But streaks make it a really nifty picture — you’ll be losing a great visual effect. 🙂

George before he got a haircut.
Right click, view image for a larger picture.
He’s my teacher and leads the way for taking naps.
He’s sure giving “Flat Albert” a run for his money in the sprawling department. Very comfy looking.
One of the few times you’ll ever see him dead asleep. Usually any little noise will have his head popping up.
I’ve finally got a dog story and have been looking forward to your diary to tell it here:

That’s a great story Carnacki, and Lucy is very lucky that you found her.
As the Aussies (pronounced Ozzies) say, “Good on ya, mate”. I’m sure that Lucy will pay you back a hundred fold for you kindness.
Now, where’s the pictures?
… cooling off.
Those looks on their faces seem to be screaming AIR CONDITION! 🙂
Sniff is all for it — he barely left the house after the morning walks but Giddy prefers the under-porch cooling method.

Where’s handsome Hopeful?
A dog has to actually move in order to need to cool off and Hopeful is the exemplar of dog as still life.

Morning SN.
It’s you. 🙂
WHat a funny little guy you are. 😛
Why thank you. Other than being over heated, how are doing today?

I’m SO looking forward to being post-menopausal.
Yeah and how come there aren’t a line of greeting cards to celebrate it.
Hmmmm. I’m sensing a fantastic business opportunity.
Anyone got any suggestions for images and text?
At the very least, it would need a box of tampons going up in flames. And it should celebrate wrinkles and saggy boobs.
This is the first comment I read this morning (top o’ the recent list and all that)…I think I need more coffee to properly contemplate this idea. 🙂
Even more, you need about 12-15 more years. 😛
search for “tampon” in Google images – you find the darndest things.
The “Tampon” Taser.
if you prefer cuddly to 40,000 volts of pee-in-his-pants power, there’s tampon dolls.
Now, what to write inside?
certainly cheered up my Monday morning. I think the tampon dolls are wonderfully freaky.
