I posted last night’s story entitled Dems Eating their Own to Defend AIPAC at Daily Kos this morning. Take a gander over there if you would like to see the comments and discussion it is attracting this morning. I think the comments are actually far more supportive and thoughtful than I expected, which is a good thing in my view. I have no issue with criticism and debate on this topic as long as it is well reasoned and respectful. So far that has been the case.
It has been known for some time that there is a silent majority at DKos that is against AIPAC corruption of American politics, and that furthermore supports a fair and just solution of the IP conflict. That is to say, they are not Likud or Kadima fans or on the right wing side.
41 tips is high for a diary posted at 1 AM Pacific time. But I think the timing probably kept away the right wing proIsrael troops that usually rush to the defense. Only a few names were familiar to me. Also most of what is left of the nonpurged supporters of Palestinian human rights on DKos was absent.
The comments were for the most part cordial and productive.
It was an excellant diary, by the way.
The diary made the RECOMMENDED LIST and will be up for part of the day. As remarked on above, there is a silent majority at DKos which is tuned into the lobby issue. And in spite of its revelations, it has not been hijacked or derailed thus far, as such diaries often are.
Thanks. People are always quick to use ad hominem attacks when you criticize AIPAC, but that seems to be at a minimum over there at the moment. That it made the rec list did surprise me, though.
Congrats on making the rec list at Big Orange. I hope you’ll consider cross-posting more often.
Hey Steven D- it was definitely a fair commentary. I must point out that at my age and experiences, I get itchy whenever attacks against the “Jews” pop up but that in no way permits me to accept the insane treatment of any peoples.Really good points!
Comic relief- since it is now apparent that the dems are incapable of following thru on the 06 mandates – how about Ping Pong Balls. A pkg of two mailed to the home office of every single congressperson. Every Single One!
Or Maybe a Trucklod of the sent to the Congress!

Great job. AIPAC is really just shorthand now for the zionist lobby, which includeds many organizations. I don’t even think AIPAC is necessarily pro-Israel, just fanatically zionist, and hence imperialist. AIPAC is a very American outfit, militant, violent, and dedicated to expansion. A proponent of Jewish imperialsm in the Middle East. The last remaining form of 19th century Central European empire building based on domination of one people over another.

OK- it’s off topic but I need to know if you happen to have read Walter Pincus in Wapo this AM?
In this old man, if this is true, it is the most horrific report I have ever read! The Most Horrific!
We will all burn is hell.

The one about the US military brainwashing Iraqi detainees?
That’s the one! Can you begin to imagine the field day the world press is going to have?I don’t know Steven D- Is this where we have come? And the part that is the most insane are the comments from the officers! Oh My God.

ps- Thankyou for responding- I really look forward to seeing that someone listens to the rants of this pre Alz codger!
We have destroyed a generation of Iraqis, and it will come back to hurt us over the next 30 years.
4:40 PM EST. 573 Comments thus far. Can’t assess the recommendations, and the tipjar has sunk into oblivion. But no doubt they both exceed 100.
And the right wing has come out of the closet, as an example:

…for “treat both sides the same, even though Israel acts honorably and the Palestinians and surrounding Arabs do not.”
I don’t believe in peace at any price. It doesn’t last. And it rewards the more aggressive party.
It just seems to me that all these people who are “criticizing Israel, NOT Jews” always slip up and show their cards, like autoegocrat when he said, above:
“Honestly, if any other foreign government on the planet were doing what AIPAC is doing, no one would even be asking questions like this.”
So they get away with it…because they’re Israel. Now what is different about Israel?
Oh, those sneaky, conniving, media-controlling…Israelis!

Was wondering when one of you “Israel does no wrong” people would show up.
“or “treat both sides the same, even though Israel acts honorably and the Palestinians and surrounding Arabs do not.””
You got about 1/4 of that correct. The Israeli government has acted far from honorable. Well, I guess if your idea of honorable is to pay lip service to peace while subverting any hope for peace. Same goes for the other side. Its unfortunate that so many of the people both groups of leaders “represent” get screwed by those very same leaders.
It just seems to me that all these people who are “criticizing Israel, NOT Jews” always slip up and show their cards, like autoegocrat when he said, above:”
ALL THESE PEOPLE? I think it has more to do with the fact that the type of person who’s always looking for an anti-semite will always find one.
So they get away with it…because they’re Israel. Now what is different about Israel?”
I know the answer. I also know the answer to why you asked this question. Lets see:
X responds something to the effect of “Because its the Jewish state.” To which you respond “See! You just hate Israel because you’re an anti-semite.” So now to answer your question. What is different about Israel is that people like you switch up the discussion from being about Israel/AIPAC/ADL to being about Jews and the other person is thus an anti-semite and not worth listening to.

I went to get a soda posted for some reason rather than continuing what I was writing.
No other country/lobby or, to be more precise, blind supporter of a country/lobby can effectivly do this. For instance, any person who tried to say I just hated Arabs because I criticized the human rights record of Saudi Arabia would get laughed out of the discussion because its easy to see right through it.

Steven, I see your diary has also been linked at democraticunderground so we’ll see how the discussion over there goes.
Interesting, since IP which is a tangentially related issue, has been virtually censored out of existence at DU.
