we could all use a day at the beach cafe…

It’s a little chilly for beachwear here.

Wow, it looks just like my current view 😉

Actually, I’m on the veranda and this is what I see:

Good to be in paradise for a few days.

Well, that doesn’t take much planning.

Thanks. I learned something new today.

St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city, also holds the distinction of being one of the nation’s most charming. Known as the “Ancient City,” Saint Augustine is located between North East and Central East Florida and is convenient to Jacksonville, Orlando, and Daytona airports.

          • AndiF
AndiF on January 30, 2008 at 8:15 am

St. Augustine is actually the one place in Florida that I think is really worth visiting. The history and the architecture are fascinating.

It is better than wonderful to turn my screen on in the morning and come here to see these beautiful pictures you all put up. Thank you thank you!

We broke 0 here yesterday!! Sky clear, I have visibility of nearly 50 miles of the mountain range, since I’m at 3,400 feet it’s quite the sight. Another couple of months and the balloons will be going up in the morning, can hardly wait.

It’s nice an warm here, plus an island so beaches all the way round, and we’ve still got that guest bedroom going empty – just saying.

Morning all.  I’m having some allergy testing done this afternoon which requires that I’ve been off my allergy meds for the last three days.  I am currently a snot-bucket.

keres on January 30, 2008 at 6:48 pm

I hoping that today’s tests will identify the culprits for a desensitization program (shots).  Constant allergies are no fun, and neither is the dopey effect of some the medication (I know, some people like the “dopey effect”).

      • AndiF

I’m taking my meds with me and will be downing handfuls immediately after the test in hopes that I will be able to sleep tonight without waking up snotty every couple of hours.  Several days of no non-interrupted makes me very cranky (although not Albert cranky, of which he is extra at the moment due to a bout of damp poo, which means no fresh greens in his diet – poor little grummet gets excited every time someone opens the refrigerator, only to have his little bunny hopes dashed, again).

      Mmm…perfect.

I just saw that Washington state is having avalanches that bury cars this morning…hopefully your storm wll be much milder than that.

We have had record low snowfall this year so far.

      Is it Friday yet?

      • AndiF
AndiF on January 31, 2008 at 6:27 am

We’ve hardly had any snow either. Hard to tell how much we’ll get out of this one since they’re predicting freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Just delightful.

Friday countdown, T minus 17.5 hours.

17.5 hours, huh?  Well, at least I have all my month-end billing done already, just have one more invoice to send out late tomorrow.  Which makes my life much simpler this week. Usually I leave it all go until I’m scrambling to meet the deadline.  I hate paperwork.

          • AndiF
AndiF on January 31, 2008 at 7:33 am

            I thought they wore uniforms.

But the discussion makes me remember my very unfair 60s schooldays when girls had to wear skirts and we weren’t even allowed to wear culottes to school (but we did; we would pin the “legs” together).

          • Second Nature
Second Nature on January 31, 2008 at 7:54 am

Ouch. One wrong move and things could go horribly awry with that. We used to leave the house with our little catholic school uniform skirts hitting our knees, and then as soon as we turned the corner we’d roll the waistband up until it was a miniskirt…thereby feeding all of the pedophiles we passed on our two mile trek to school.

          • AndiF
AndiF on January 31, 2008 at 8:00 am

My adolescence pre-dates mini-skirts but rolling the waistband was a big thing in junior high, though nothing close to mini-skirt height.

Here I am in WA state and the last to know. About 3 inches of snow here, I’ll have to look around to find the buried cars. I know that the passes got dumped on yesterday and they’ve been doing avalanche control.

      Good morning, Andi and CG!
We had a smooth transfer down south, real bush travel that included 4 take-offs and landings with a 1-engine prop plane – but the whole thing went like clockwork.

We’re now in a beach cabana – no internet provided, but I ‘piggy-back’ on the neighboring hotel’s wireless. Thus, connection is a bit unreliable (it just came back after 1.5 hrs down).

Family Man on February 1, 2008 at 4:29 am

We had some pretty hard thunderstorms here yesterday, but no tornadoes or the electricity going out.

Both George and Cat have conspired to keep me up all night.  Someone put Cat outside last night and forgot to let her back in.  She waited until she knew I was asleep and started meowing outside my window.  Of course I had to get up and let her in.  Then after that George decided to get a bad case of the big “D”.  I’ve had to take him out at least six times in the last five hours.  I guess I’d much rather do that then pay the consequences.

So how is everyone’s Friday starting out so far?

    • AndiF
AndiF on February 1, 2008 at 5:04 am

Well I’m bummed. We had a winter storm watch but instead of the mostly snow and some sleet we were supposed to have, we ended up with mostly rain and then freezing rain. So lots of inconvenience without the payoff of pretty snow. 🙁

Glad you got through your storms without any problems.

      • Family Man
Family Man on February 1, 2008 at 5:13 am

Yep that’s a bummer on getting freezing rain.  I have to say since I’ve gotten my one snow of the decade I’m fairly satisfied.  I guess when you get freezing rain, you have to be extra careful when you go on your walk.  Falling limbs and all.

        • AndiF
AndiF on February 1, 2008 at 5:27 am

It’s not too bad. The trees are lightly coated. And it looks like it’s letting up. So if we don’t get any more, it won’t be a problem.

Haircuts this afternoon and over to Cincy tomorrow to see his mom. But that’s all weather dependent — apparently the roads must be pretty bad because most of the school systems around here (including Jim’s) are closed.

Family Man on February 1, 2008 at 5:45 am

That walk in the afternoon does sound good.  Of course I’d rather walk while I’m on a 4-wheeler though.  Much more slackerly that way. 🙂

Mmm, hot cocoa.  Grading papers, not so much.

I have the cocoa right now.  It’s lovely.  The papers, not so much.  Is everyone feeling better in your house?

We haven’t gotten anything bad yet but west of us there are many accidents.  How’s that cocoa?
