St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city, also holds the distinction of being one of the nation’s most charming. Known as the “Ancient City,” Saint Augustine is located between North East and Central East Florida and is convenient to Jacksonville, Orlando, and Daytona airports.
It is better than wonderful to turn my screen on in the morning and come here to see these beautiful pictures you all put up. Thank you thank you!
We broke 0 here yesterday!! Sky clear, I have visibility of nearly 50 miles of the mountain range, since I’m at 3,400 feet it’s quite the sight. Another couple of months and the balloons will be going up in the morning, can hardly wait.
It’s nice an warm here, plus an island so beaches all the way round, and we’ve still got that guest bedroom going empty – just saying.
Morning all. I’m having some allergy testing done this afternoon which requires that I’ve been off my allergy meds for the last three days. I am currently a snot-bucket.
I hoping that today’s tests will identify the culprits for a desensitization program (shots). Constant allergies are no fun, and neither is the dopey effect of some the medication (I know, some people like the “dopey effect”).
I’m taking my meds with me and will be downing handfuls immediately after the test in hopes that I will be able to sleep tonight without waking up snotty every couple of hours. Several days of no non-interrupted makes me very cranky (although not Albert cranky, of which he is extra at the moment due to a bout of damp poo, which means no fresh greens in his diet – poor little grummet gets excited every time someone opens the refrigerator, only to have his little bunny hopes dashed, again).
We’ve hardly had any snow either. Hard to tell how much we’ll get out of this one since they’re predicting freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Just delightful.
Now I’ll have to check and see what we’re supposed to get. I hope it doesn’t amount to much for you and that you don’t lose your power.
17.5 hours, huh? Well, at least I have all my month-end billing done already, just have one more invoice to send out late tomorrow. Which makes my life much simpler this week. Usually I leave it all go until I’m scrambling to meet the deadline. I hate paperwork.
OMG, I just opened my next project…I have to write about the future of drug XYZ in combination with sex coaching? I’m picturing Craig Nelson in the bedroom, complete with a stopwatch and those headsets the NFL coaches wear.
But the discussion makes me remember my very unfair 60s schooldays when girls had to wear skirts and we weren’t even allowed to wear culottes to school (but we did; we would pin the “legs” together).
Ouch. One wrong move and things could go horribly awry with that. We used to leave the house with our little catholic school uniform skirts hitting our knees, and then as soon as we turned the corner we’d roll the waistband up until it was a miniskirt…thereby feeding all of the pedophiles we passed on our two mile trek to school.
Here I am in WA state and the last to know. About 3 inches of snow here, I’ll have to look around to find the buried cars. I know that the passes got dumped on yesterday and they’ve been doing avalanche control.
Right now I have snow fog sun. Foggy, sun shining thru & snowflakes drifting down. Have a great day everyone!
Good morning, Andi and CG!
We had a smooth transfer down south, real bush travel that included 4 take-offs and landings with a 1-engine prop plane – but the whole thing went like clockwork.
We’re now in a beach cabana – no internet provided, but I ‘piggy-back’ on the neighboring hotel’s wireless. Thus, connection is a bit unreliable (it just came back after 1.5 hrs down).
It’s quite rustic and not very developed. Chickens running around freely (a time challenged rooster woke me up at 3.45).
Check this link to see the world’s narrowest main street.
We had some pretty hard thunderstorms here yesterday, but no tornadoes or the electricity going out.
Both George and Cat have conspired to keep me up all night. Someone put Cat outside last night and forgot to let her back in. She waited until she knew I was asleep and started meowing outside my window. Of course I had to get up and let her in. Then after that George decided to get a bad case of the big “D”. I’ve had to take him out at least six times in the last five hours. I guess I’d much rather do that then pay the consequences.
Well I’m bummed. We had a winter storm watch but instead of the mostly snow and some sleet we were supposed to have, we ended up with mostly rain and then freezing rain. So lots of inconvenience without the payoff of pretty snow. 🙁
Glad you got through your storms without any problems.
Yep that’s a bummer on getting freezing rain. I have to say since I’ve gotten my one snow of the decade I’m fairly satisfied. I guess when you get freezing rain, you have to be extra careful when you go on your walk. Falling limbs and all.
Haircuts this afternoon and over to Cincy tomorrow to see his mom. But that’s all weather dependent — apparently the roads must be pretty bad because most of the school systems around here (including Jim’s) are closed.
Well since his not-working and my working is what has happened every summer for something like the last 25 years, I think I’m used to it. Though I might take the afternoon off so we can go for a long walk.
I’m waving back. I’ve already been through one pot of coffee, and I just started a second. I see over at your place you’ve already been busy this morning.
There’s too many me & mine these days. Did I tell you that 2 of our 3 kids moved back home — each with a dog? And that the boy has a Girl Friend with a disabled daughter? They (GF & Child) don’t actually live here, but you’d never know it. And MIL is still here too.
CBtY’s school is closed due to the incoming weather; I have to decide whether to drive CBtE to school for is social studies test this morning, since he has no bus (school is optional for him when the public school is closed).
FM, I’m sorry about George’s GI problems…what a drag!
Sounds like you have a hard decision on driving into school this morning. I choose slack.
Thanks about George. I know what caused it though. Although they’ll deny it, I’m sure my visiting rels have been feeding him stuff on the side. As much as I’ve told them not too, they still do.
we could all use a day at the beach cafe…
Old cafe here.
It’s a little chilly for beachwear here.
Wow, it looks just like my current view 😉
Actually, I’m on the veranda and this is what I see:
Good to be in paradise for a few days.
If I were there, I might make “a rigid plan” to see every morning. 🙂
Well, that doesn’t take much planning.
I can’t ditch the bad habit of getting up before 5, even here.
I don’t mind getting up early on vacation — I look at it as just more time to enjoy the trip. 🙂
I guess I’ve missed the part of the conversation where “rigid plan” is explained. With a view like that I’d get up early too.
Good morning, SN!
The reference is in the old cafe (CG has link above).
Where is that – Long Island?
Nope, Florida about 30 miles south of St. Augustine.
Thanks. I learned something new today.
St. Augustine is actually the one place in Florida that I think is really worth visiting. The history and the architecture are fascinating.
It is better than wonderful to turn my screen on in the morning and come here to see these beautiful pictures you all put up. Thank you thank you!

I love the feeling of depth the sky gives with that shot. Goes on forever. Hope you get something for the bucket of goo…

Ooh, what a lovely picture.
Sorry about the snot. 🙁
I’m taking my meds with me and will be downing handfuls immediately after the test in hopes that I will be able to sleep tonight without waking up snotty every couple of hours. I hated allergy tests … lying there getting endlessly stuck with pins, boring and painful.
Poor Albert. I hope he’s back to green leafies soon.
for Ask anyway. We, OTOH, have a winter storm watch.
Mmm…perfect.
I just saw that Washington state is having avalanches that bury cars this morning…hopefully your storm wll be much milder than that.
We have had record low snowfall this year so far.
Is it Friday yet?
We’ve hardly had any snow either. Hard to tell how much we’ll get out of this one since they’re predicting freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Just delightful.
Friday countdown, T minus 17.5 hours.
Now I’ll have to check and see what we’re supposed to get. I hope it doesn’t amount to much for you and that you don’t lose your power.

Oh thanks … that’s an image I really did not need in my head first thing in the morning.
T minus 17 hours.
Glad I could share my pain with you. 🙂
And now I’m having a discussion with my eldest child about “No, you can’t wear those ripped khakis to school.” Jeebus.
I thought they wore uniforms.
But the discussion makes me remember my very unfair 60s schooldays when girls had to wear skirts and we weren’t even allowed to wear culottes to school (but we did; we would pin the “legs” together).

My adolescence pre-dates mini-skirts but rolling the waistband was a big thing in junior high, though nothing close to mini-skirt height.

Pictures, we need pictures!
Glad the traveling went smoothly. It seems like the week is flying by, doesn’t it?
I’m with CG on the pictures — though with an unreliable connection I guess we might have to wait till you get back.
But written descriptions are just fine and don’t need much bandwidth. 🙂
Enjoy.
You’re so much more patient and reasonable than I am. :::sigh:::
Here are a couple (right click + ‘View Image’ for bigger version):
Fun with sting rays
Conch fishermen on the reef
Returning from the reef, we encountered a pod with 6-7 dolphins. Almost impossible to get a good shot, this was the best.
Approaching Placencia peninsula
This morning, in front of cabanas
I’ll try to upload a few.
It’s quite rustic and not very developed. Chickens running around freely (a time challenged rooster woke me up at 3.45).
Check this link to see the world’s narrowest main street.
You’ll be already for a trip to Kauai — there are wild chickens all over the place (one lasting reminder of hurricane Iniki).
Around here, we’d call that “road” a deer run.
or a bike path?
Ahh the Kauai roosters….I worked there in the aftermath of Iniki and it took me months to get the feathers out of the car’s radiator.
Good morning all. 23 degrees now, perfect for the icy rain that’s coming tomorrow.
Oh joy. Maybe it’ll make for a 3-day weekend though…
That’s what I’m thinking.
So how is everyone’s Friday starting out so far?
Well I’m bummed. We had a winter storm watch but instead of the mostly snow and some sleet we were supposed to have, we ended up with mostly rain and then freezing rain. So lots of inconvenience without the payoff of pretty snow. 🙁
Glad you got through your storms without any problems.

It’s not too bad. The trees are lightly coated. And it looks like it’s letting up. So if we don’t get any more, it won’t be a problem.
So it’s Friday and almost the weekend. Do you and Jim have any big plans for this w/e?
Haircuts this afternoon and over to Cincy tomorrow to see his mom. But that’s all weather dependent — apparently the roads must be pretty bad because most of the school systems around here (including Jim’s) are closed.
Yep I’ve got to get a haircut myself pretty soon. So Jim gets a three day weekend and you have to work. So unfair. 🙂
Well since his not-working and my working is what has happened every summer for something like the last 25 years, I think I’m used to it. Though I might take the afternoon off so we can go for a long walk.
Well at the moment I’m trying to stay awake. I’ve got a few appointments this morning and if I go to sleep now, I’ll never wake up for them.
That walk in the afternoon does sound good. Of course I’d rather walk while I’m on a 4-wheeler though. Much more slackerly that way. 🙂
Well to be precise, that would be a long ride, not a long walk.
Yep a long ride in the woods. The best of both worlds.
(still drinking coffee)
Morning KB.
I’m waving back. I’ve already been through one pot of coffee, and I just started a second. I see over at your place you’ve already been busy this morning.
Hi FM — I saw your note at E4T — I hope your tests go well today & that your shot is effective.
{{FamilyMan}}
Yep I was just back over at your place. You’re up early blogging today aren’t you?
Not really, I guess I usually cruise the political blogs before I post (including the BT front page). But, I don’t have the heart for it today.
I’ve been up most of the night cruising the blogs, but right now I’ve got to cruise to the shower and get ready for a trip into town.
I hope you get the heart for cruising again soon.
Take care.
Hi KB!
Hi CabinGirl, How are you & the family?
pretty good, even if everyone is off school for the day. How about you and yours?
There’s too many me & mine these days. Did I tell you that 2 of our 3 kids moved back home — each with a dog? And that the boy has a Girl Friend with a disabled daughter? They (GF & Child) don’t actually live here, but you’d never know it. And MIL is still here too.
So it’s Good Times….
KB your place is starting to sound like mine. I know how you feel.
{{{KB}}}
{{FM}} I often feel like you’re describing mister’s day — although your mom sounds nicer than his….
Trust me, FMom has her times and bad moods too. 🙂
I just try to ignore her when that happens.
Gotta run and get ready. See ya later.
CBtY’s school is closed due to the incoming weather; I have to decide whether to drive CBtE to school for is social studies test this morning, since he has no bus (school is optional for him when the public school is closed).
FM, I’m sorry about George’s GI problems…what a drag!
Morning CG.
Sounds like you have a hard decision on driving into school this morning. I choose slack.
Thanks about George. I know what caused it though. Although they’ll deny it, I’m sure my visiting rels have been feeding him stuff on the side. As much as I’ve told them not too, they still do.
Hmm, I guess the rels wouldn’t feed him stuff if they had to clean up the aftermath.
Heck if I could get them to clean up after themselves, I would be happy. So there’s no way they would after George.
Does he get to make up the test if he misses it?
Yeah.
It’s his first class of the day, so I might just drive him over, wait for him, and bring him home.
Well if they have wifi, at least you could surf.
Well, we just went to walk out to the car, and everything is covered in a sheet of slippery ice.
Nobody’s going anywhere this morning. Except maybe back to bed to start our 3-day weekend. 🙂
Sounds like a perfect slacking day.
WooHoo! No school!
Good morning everyone.
Morning Toni.
I thought during white out blizzards they still had school up there. 🙂
Morning FM!
We’re wimps here. Plus, basically we hate school – so any excuse to call off school.
Jim doesn’t have school either. So, of course, he woke up at 4:30 a.m.
I was up at 5:00 and the call came in at 5:30. I stayed up and did some work.
I’ve got a day to myself. Andrew is at Montessori and my hubby is at school.
I’m a little envious of your “me” time. How are you going to spend it? 🙂
I will be grading papers and writing a paper. Plus, drinking hot cocoa 🙂
Mmm, hot cocoa. Grading papers, not so much.
I have the cocoa right now. It’s lovely. The papers, not so much. Is everyone feeling better in your house?
Good morning all. I’m at home with b2 the only, who also has no school today. The ice storm cometh.
I hate ice storms. I’ll take snow any day.
We haven’t gotten anything bad yet but west of us there are many accidents. How’s that cocoa?
The cocoa is finished. It was yummy! What will you do today?
We’ll probably play some gamecube games together. I’ll try to get him to read a bit. After we fight for 20 miuntes about that, who knows? 😉
Good luck with the fighting 🙂
Waves back at kb!
