Since Luna’s an outside dog (except for today, where she’s in the house enjoying the fan), it’s been a few years since I’ve had a dog-related-xmas incident (but the one’s I’ve had have been memorable).
Thanks keres. Jim, Sniff, Giddy and I really appreciate it. He’d been getting bad for awhile but on Monday he basically stopped eating and he could barely walk.
He was a wonderful, sweet dog. I’m truly happy and grateful to have shared every aspect of his life and that includes the end of it.
I’m so sorry Andi. I feel like I met Hopeful in real life. No matter how much you might be expecting it, it’s never easy. My sympathies to you, Jim, Giddy and Sniff. And all of Hopeful’s friends, animal and human.
Like you said about Hopeful, there is always the memories and I’m sure in his passing he had to feel good to know that he was surrounded by people and canines that loved him.
I saw earlier where you’ll be starting a vacation. Just remember that a vacation is a vacation and don’t work too hard on the house during your vacation.
I’m happy to tell you that I have no plans to do any work during vacation. And when the work on the house happens, someone else is going to do it; my exertions will be limited to writing checks. I do my best to try (but without really trying of course) to reach your levels of slackdom.
It’s good to see you too. I’ve been doing some lurking, but not much. Hopefully I’ll be back up to my preaching the glory of slackdom soon. 🙂
It appears spring has hit us down here. Flowers are starting to bloom and the grass has started growing (Arrggg). I hope you’ll start getting some warm air and spring there soon. I know ya’ll must appreciate the two weeks of yearly warmth you have up there. :~)
Oh Andi, I’m so sorry. Our condolences to you and Jim. Our special pal Maggie left us nearly 8 years ago and we still haven’t the heart to invite another puppy to come home with us. I remember meeting the pack the time I was out to visit. They were sweeties.
Andi, I’ve been away from the computer and just saw this this morning. I’m so sorry. It hurts so much to say goodbye to an old friend, even when you know they’re ready to go.
We went into the grocery store yesterday and the local humane society had a large poster at the door with dogs available for adoption there. It looks like since Bud and HJ won’t be hooking up, there are many other suitable candidates for pack membership.
hi Jim, glad to see you in the comments. That would be a great union, though I’d wonder which parent the pups would take after. If they were like Bud, you’d never pry them away from the wood burning stove to take a walk. Naps would rule the world.
I must admit, the title got my attention. I’m glad I stopped by. What a strange looking little critter that is!
One of my coworkers is also a state licensed animal rescuer and rehabber for both domestic and wild animals. Yesterday she got a call from a woman about 60 miles from here who had baby raccoons and no idea how to care for them. She arranged a pickup by conservation police who will place them with a rehab person in that area. This morning she went on a raid with police to seize 6 severely neglected horses in the rain & mud from a man who was likely to be quite angry over the seizure. They pulled it off without any violence and the horses are safe and will be nursed back to good health. I feel lucky to be associated with people like this woman. It keeps my faith in humanity from going sour sometimes.
Another name for them is moloch. We saw two during our trip to West Australia (two years ago). They are surprisingly soft to the touch, and very docile.
Yes, I agree that we are perhaps our most humane when we extended our care and compassion to animals.
One of Imogen’s workmates gave us this card.

Word fail; memories never.
Oh Andi, I’m so very, very sorry.
It’s one of the most courageous/insane things we do – loving animals, knowing that we will invariably out-live them.
Imogen, Luna, Albert, all the alpacas, ducks, and chickens send their very best thoughts.

A lot of love there – I’m so very, very sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry, Andi!
Hopeful is simply headed from one paradise to another.
I am so sorry Andi. I know you shared many wonderful years together. My heart goes out to you and the rest of the pack.

it never gets easier, l know. but the memories never fade.
sending peace and blessings your way.
My heart goes out to you, Jim and the pack, Andi. I love ask’s comment above and second it. paz (((the Fs)))

Rest in peace, Hopeful. Condolences to you, Andi.
I am so sorry to hear this Andi. I hope he’s in a better place where he’s running like a puppy again.
My thoughts are with you and Jim and the pack.
Thanks FM. I’m so glad to see you’re back and so sorry you haven’t been feeling well.
Hi again Andi and thanks.

I’m glad to hear you’ll be taking it easy.
Yep to achieve slackdom all one has to strive for is nothing. 🙂
Good to see you FM.
Hi Olivia.

Oh my, that bottom photo is one beautiful photo of Hopeful.

A recent bit of happy news from New Zealand
Wow, that’s a really amazing story! Thanks for sharing it.
Another article with, a photo of Moko the dolphin.
Hopeful Jr. pledges to carry on the superb lounging tradition set by her namesake.
As well as the priceless Houndy expressions…
Hopeful’s name and lifestyle are very good paws.
My blog is doomed while I’m away, because I left this slacker in charge:
He’s doing a stellar job of holding things down. Er, the rug, that is. 🙂
I think we need to get Bud and Hopeful, Jr. together.
We need a third member of the pack, you know.
Thanks to all,
Jim
Hi Jim, it’s good to see you here.
While I’d second the marriage of Hopeful Jr. and Bud, from the above photo it appears that Bud is . . . er, dis-budded.
It has always been my experience that the right dog will find you soon enough.
poor Bud, he is going to get a complex for not being deemed adequate for mating 😉
Hi Manny.
Bud doesn’t strike me as the kind of dog that gets complexes. Especially ones over lack of performance – which he seems to relish.
Oh well.

Napdog not lapdog.
Jim
I really appreciate them.

Their color changes with temperature. This one was warmer, and therefore paler.
