I’m going to be heading out into the field in a little bit. I’m hearing rumors that the Clintons are robocalling Republicans that re-registered as Dems and telling them that Obama supports partial-birth abortion. I’m waiting on some more sourcing on that. Anyone care to look up Clinton’s voting record on partial birth abortion?

Voted NO on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life.
S. 3 As Amended; Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003. Vote to pass a bill banning a medical procedure, which is commonly known as “partial-birth” abortion. Those who performed this procedure would then face fines and up to two years in prison, the women to whom this procedure is performed on are not held criminally liable. This bill would make the exception for cases in which a women’s life is in danger, not for cases where a women’s health is in danger.

Of course, when she was running for that Senate seat in 2000, she couldn’t resist her usual triangulation:

Q: Are there circumstances when the government should limit choice?

LAZIO: I had a pro-choice record in the House, and I believe in a woman’s right to choose. I support a ban on partial-birth abortions. Senator Moynihan called it “infanticide.” Even former mayor Ed Koch agreed that this was too extreme a procedure. This is an area where I disagree with my opponent. My opponent opposes a ban on partial-birth abortions.

CLINTON: My opponent is wrong. I have said many times that I can support a ban on late-term abortions, including partial-birth abortions, so long as the health and life of the mother is protected. I’ve met women who faced this heart-wrenching decision toward the end of a pregnancy. Of course it’s a horrible procedure. No one would argue with that. But if your life is at stake, if your health is at stake, if the potential for having any more children is at stake, this must be a woman’s choice.

    Not the medical term. But it’s a bogeyman, anyway, purely designed to get wingers to the polls. “Partial-birth abortion” isn’t performed by doctors unless the mother’s life is in danger, as I understand it.

  Is that an actual ad? It looked to me that they were just distributing the youtube of Bill to media organizations. Which might be effective.

    I particularly liked the person who said Obama should play Bill Clinton’s words on hope/fear and then go on to say I’m Barack Obama and I approve Bill Clinton’s message..who was it again who said words don’t count?

Hillary’s up with a new, last minute spot in Pennsylvania designed to swing the late-breaking undecideds — and it includes a brief appearance by none other than Osama Bin Laden.

Though there’s no mention of Obama here, the crisis imagery, combined with the line “who do you think has what it takes,” are clearly designed to sow last-minute doubts about Obama’s fitness to be commander-in-chief, just as the “red phone” ad did…

Late Update: The Obama campaign is already out with a response: It’s directing folks to this video of Bill Clinton saying the following in 2004:

    Hillary gave Drudge an exclusive on her own internal polling – an 11 point lead. They’re excited. (You know where to find him I won’t soil the page with a link)
    
    Clinton is polling near to nearly 2 to 1 over Obama in many regions of the state, a top insider explained to the DRUDGE REPORT.
    
    We’ll see soon enough if this is just another “Clinton late night adult moment” (a Nancy Pelosi patent).

        On the eve of Tuesday’s big contest in Pennsylvania, the Clinton campaign finds itself losing the money race.
        
        Financial reports released to the Federal Election Commission early Monday morning show that Hillary Clinton raised around $20 million in March and had roughly $8 million available at the beginning of April for use during the primary. But the campaign also reported debts of $10.3 million, which makes it in the red leading into contests in Indiana and North Carolina. Nearly half of her debt is owed to Penn, Schoen & Berland — the consulting firm of former Clinton chief strategist Mark Penn.

this time from the obama campaign, re: guns

…more robocalls flying around in Pennsylvania — and the latest one from the Obama camp hits Hillary on guns, an apparent effort to push back on her criticism of his “small town” remarks about guns and religion.

The call is being pumped into the Pittsburgh area, and it features Obama backer and local sportsman Dick Lanzoni, lambasting Hillary for voting — unlike Obama — against an amendment to an appropriations bill banning the confiscation of weapons in emergencies.

“Barack Obama respects our traditions,” he says. “Senator Clinton voted to allow guns to be confiscated, and this raises real doubts.”
