I no longer know what the people at Open Left are even talking about. What’s worse, I find that I don’t even care. It’s a startling development, where they have developed their own Hegelian language and deterministic dialectical materialism. In this new ‘analysis’ the ‘Creative Class’ takes the place of the proletariat as some kind of innately good, but confessedly elitist, conglomerate of good government goo-goo egghead superhero professionals. A heroic ‘Best and the Brightest’ that isn’t really all that progressive because the only real progressive is the man in the hardhat.
Does that make sense? No? Good, just be glad you aren’t a philosophy major like me. Because reading that stuff is like a classical musician listening to rock-stars playing out of tune.
This election has been about two things. First, the war in unpopular. Second, identity politics, where demography is destiny. High information voters vote for Obama, low-information voters vote for Clinton. Education levels, race, gender, and geographical location are all better predictors of voting behavior than ‘class’. The election has not been influenced in any meaningful way by distractions like the Rev. Wright or the Tuzla sniper saga, and all the Lakoffian wanking in the world won’t change that.
In any case, I’m tired of reading about this primary. You can use this as an open thread for the primary results in West Virginia and Nebraska, and the special election in Mississippi.
Things are bad. A blog what we won’t name didn’t censor people before.
They do today.
I shared the recent comments from James Carville and Hillary.
Hillary Clinton:
Speaking to voters in the Appalachian state, she said: “All the kitchen table issues that everybody talks to me about are ones that the next president can actually do something about, if he actually cares about it.” Realising her faux pas, she added: “More likely if she cares about it!”
The comments were removed.
I will never understand not talking to people that you don’t agree with.
Care to say the name of the blog? Could it be Corrente apostle Suburban Guerilla?
James Carville expanded on his comment:
You Philly bloggers and your inside baseball. 🙂
Wow, the title of that article alone is a mess.
Makes your head spin, but what really makes me want to vomit is this:
For the first time, Bush revealed a personal way in which he has tried to acknowledge the sacrifice of soldiers and their families: He has given up golf.
“I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” he said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0508/10314.html
Seeing him clear brush undoubtedly makes them feel much better.
He gave up golf. Thrills.
He is actually conflating PR with virtue, and is too stupid to realize that he should keep silent.
I could just vomit.
really…

“watch this…”
Oh…you KNOW that’s the first thing I thought about. He just completely lacks morals, shame or dignity.
He is vile, and he is vulgar.
for 251 more days…tick…tick…tock…
Won’t it be nice when there’s someone in the White House who can actually put two coherent, logical, well-thought-out sentences together?
Actually you know what I’m waiting for? The day when I will know that things, while they won’t be all right immediately, that they’ve started back on the right track? It’ll be the day I first watch a White House press briefing and I see Helen Thomas in the front row again, ready to ask the first question, and she ends the briefing with “Thank you, Mr. President”. I bet she gets a standing ovation.
All I want is to not cringe with embarassment or fear when a U.S. President speaks. I’ve been cringing a lot in the past, um, lifetime or so (I’m 31).
The only reason he gave up golf is that he doesn’t have any balls…
“I no longer know what the people at Open Left are even talking about. What’s worse, I find that I don’t even care. “
That describes my attitude toward the entire blogosphere these days.
Yup.
Thank you.
Glad that I am not alone.

….looks like I picked the wrong week to stop drinking canned heat.
I gotta say – I never found Open Left very enticing. I pop in now and then but the level of discourse has never been interesting enough to get me to register and chime in.
Logo’s pretty good, that’s about it.
HA HA HA!!!!
I get to vote for Obama AGAIN today in the Nebraska state primary (and for Scott Kleeb, too).
High information voters vote for Obama, low-information voters vote for Clinton.
maybe there are many high information voters who disagree with you.
High hyped info, perhaps.
I’ve seen what passes for “information” about Obama on those pro-Clinton sites. I would more correctly label that DISinformation.
Did you know that Obama has a call center in the ME?
People actually spread that. Some idiots actually believe it.
Heard that Obama’s half-brother in Kenya is a radical trying to overthrow their government. And his dead mother was a red. Expect Hillary’s oppo department to dig into their research bag of tricks.
They already have. It just hasn’t worked.
Rezko who? 🙂
Um, that’s what the polling data tells us. It doesn’t imply that all Clinton voters are ignorant. Just that ignorant people have generally voted for Clinton.
You got THAT right, Alice.
The arrogance and conceit of the Obama supporters who diss HRC is a sign of the massive hubris that is going to be Obama’s single greatest shortcoming in the coming months.
Win or lose.
Watch.

this is interesting, vis a vis the hype to select hillary as veep:
they don’t even attempt to hide the collusion anymore.
Yeah, this Adam guy has been at it for a minute, and it seems he’s getting a bit more press these days.
Unless Sen. Obama looks forward to sleeping with one eye open for the next eight years–no.
Wow, looking at the exit polls, it’s just as bad as one might have guessed in West Virginia. Seven in 10 support suspending the gas tax (compared with the majority nationwide opposing it). 50% believe Obama shares Wright’s view to at least some extent.
I thought West Virginia was isolated and weird. West Virginia is really isolated and weird.
You know how the old song goes. “Almost heaven . . . West Virginia.” Well, I’m not sure about almost heaven, but sometimes I think it’s definitely another planet.
I was struck by that bit of exit poll (gas tax) data as well. Apparently they didn’t have the sense to realize that she was just 11th-hour pandering without any intention of ever following through on such a stupid idea that would never pass anyway.
Where does West Virginia rank on primary education in the country, anyway?
Well, to be fair, $30 probably goes a lot further in WV than in other states!
not to be elitist-nothing elite about my rural VT village – 2 atreet lights – but look to the demographics in a time warp!
Wake up.
West Virginia is only as “isolated and weird” as at least 1/3rd of America.
More, really.
The leftiness blogs are equally isolated and weird, except the people who ascribe to what is happening on left blogworld are some miniscule percentage of the population that thinks their actions and beliefs are moving this vast and powerful empire.
There used to be a joke that goes like this.
“Isolated” and “weird” are a product of demographics, bubba.
You think that you are keeping the Republican elephants away with your snap snap snap snap snap snap snapping?
You think that if push comes to shove alla them “isolated and weird” people (YOU know, the ones who are not like you? The isolated and weird ghetto folk, the isolated and weird religious fundamentalists, alla them cowboys an’ hillbillies an’ gangbangers an’ other generally non-middle class interlecshul types?) are not gonna have their say?
Please.
The RatPubs are going down BECAUSE THEY FUCKED UP AND BUSINESS IS BAD AS A RESULT.
Dassit.
NO other reason.
But…keep on snapping those fingers, bubba.
At least it keeps your hands busy.
Later…

Open Left is still mourning John Edwards dropping out.
They are Joe Trippi worshipers, while they are not Clinton supporters they have been passive-agressive hatchetmen againsty Obama. They are desperate to be relevant, instead of trying to reach out to the Obama campaign and help, they have passive-agressively been sticking it to them, they won’t admit that, but it is true…..they use the meme that they are equal opportunity criticizers…but that is pure bull….
Which is sad, because Trippi seems happy enough with the Obama campaign.
Look I refused to actually joined Open Left until it gets rid of Stoller but they are not anti-Obama hatchetmen, or at least have no been since Super Duper Tuesday.
Do they critique Obama more? I’ll buy that, but I think it’s more in the vein of being harder on the ones you love. Not saying they “love” Obama.
And I admire the honesty of Stoller’s post of Obama remaking the movement into a less partisan thing, and the fact that in his initial post, he came right out and said that it wasn’t a bad thing–and didn’t imply it in the post either.
One of the reason I prefer Eschaton, Yglesias and of course Booman is the the lack of pomposity.
Granted entering a comment thread at Eschaton is like walking into an Abbott and Costello movie…
That’s well said. Pomposity, ego, BS, all those things turn me off. I do like the atmosphere at the Frog Pond!
No, it would have been well said I had typed “One of the reasons“.
Good grammatical point. 😉
This is the same shit I heard in the sixties. The whole presumption that there are stages which will ultimately lead the Promised Ones to the end of the human race’s historic evolution where things will be wonderful.
I think the most offensive thing is this playing perfection. There have always been greedy monsters who want to take everyone’s money or control people or who want to kill people or make them suffer, back from when the first bastard got the keys to the granary in ancient Mesopotamia. This will lead to this will lead to this. But they don’t even understand their own little schemes, much less the world they’re muddling through.
I expect Obama to disappoint me. You’d be a fool to expect any politician to be perfect considering the seas he/she has to swim through. It’s lazy to presume that there’s anything near perfection. You do your best. You go to bed and get up the next day and do it again.
Every revolution that doesn’t collapse under its own weight eventually gets co-opted. I fully expect this one to do the same eventually. I am just hoping it’s later rather than sooner, and that in the meantime we can get something beneficial done.
We are nothing if not clear and concise.
They’re hopping on the bandwagon and trying to create some coattails. After being basically sidelined to spectators, these self-appointed Gate Crashers are now trying to bend over backwards to prove that Obama is doing exactly what they told him to do…or something.
The next smear on Obama is being previewed on NoQuarter right now.
They’re trying to link Obama to a group called “The New Black Panthers”. They link to a Web site that’s not even fully functional right now.
Looks like this will be the SwiftBoat site of the year.
Did you see this from jerome
Might be his worst ever…
That guy never had any talent. He wouldn’t be where he is if he wasn’t willing to sell out.
Yeah, that’s sure enough pretty pissy. But that No Quarter stuff makes it look like Jerome’s got a crush on Obama in comparison. That stuff’s worrying.
“Will Obama Deny Knowing the New Black Panthers?” (or what about the Harlem Globetrotters?)
“Obama Deals the Slave Card” (wha–?)
“Nation of Islam Theology” THEY PLAN TO RULE ALL
(If they somehow find the One Ring, we’re screwed! Run Frodo! RUUUUUUUUUN!)
They look dangerously locked and loaded on that crap.
And it does look like they’re trying to fan it into a sustained assault. It’s going to be Farrakhan this, Farrakhan that.
Those look like Susan’s stuff, but does anybody know exactly what is the nature of Larry Johnson’s problems with Obama? Someone over at dkos had a diary up about Johnson having been the ex-CIA “spook” behind the whole madrassa smear that FOX glommed onto. Wouldn’t surprise me. (AND re Mr. Johnson: tell me that ain’t a toupee! Go ahead, tell me!)
Johnson believes that Hillary is more qualified after meeting with her and because she spoke out about what was done to Valarie Plame.
That doesn’t mean that he should allow his blog and his reputation to be damaged over this losing candidate.
His credibility surely hangs by a thread as it is. He’s totally coo coo for cocoa puffs on this stuff. He’s pushing Sidney Blumenthal’s stealth smear crap, and he seems to want Obama defeated no matter what, it seems. If extended to the General campaign, he’s for McCain, looks like.
They’re like those in the ringhtwing nut-osphere…make things up. these guys aren’t democrats and dare I suggest their racial slip shows.
the new black panthers!!!!? Expect more.
Hopefully, this election will determine, tell the rest of the world the kind of country that we are.
I saw that headline. Didn’t even follow the link.
I believe they will continue to try to ruin Obama after he is nominated.
I also saw an article from the UK Financial Times about the difficulty that Obama faces from bigots.
I commented that the same paper endorsed Obama. It was probably removed too.
We can’t ruin the party over there.
Okay. Hillary is nuts.
Is anyone listening to this speech?
I’m more convinced than ever that Hillary and Bill have donors to deliver to and they are desperate.
Bill did take funds from Columbian president Uribe. I commented about this at the blog that won’t be named.
It was also removed. Gawd.
Nope, not watching. I’m not watching anymore news until the Crazy Cat Lady drops out.
How many times has she mentioned the website?
Just once that I heard when she was asking to help her continue.
Delusional or suckering people to help her pay off her debt.
I have it on in the background, but can easily pick up on the delusional thoughts that is her ‘speech’.
Why am I doubting the hospice story she just told?
Oh, Tuzla.
My favorite part was her shout out to the kid who sold his bike to send her money. She needs to buy him a new bicycle.

Pro-Clinton blogs are trumpeting this would-be inspirational story today:
WILLIAMSON — Everyone who knows 11-year-old Dalton Hatfield sees it. There’s something special about the young man. His mother Vickie says all who come in contact with the Kentucky elementary student look at him and say “He’s going to be something” when he grows up.
Apparently that goes for former presidents, too.
When Hatfield presented former President Bill Clinton with a check for $440 after Friday’s rally at the Williamson Fire Station, the man who was once the leader of the free world seemed to nearly come to tears.

I’ll be damned it that ain’t a race, ya’ll!
That’s looking great, right now.
Nothing up yet on Kleeb’s race, I guess.
Aren’t the Limbaugh voters who voted for Hillary responsible for making this Dem victory possible?
Idiots.
At least in part, probably. But this is hugely symbolic, and on a national level. The NRCC shot a big chunk of its wad here, and they even had Cheney down here to try and save one of the reddest CDs in the whole bloody country. Bush and McCain did robocalls, the works. For the R’s to lose that one is a BAD omen.
Plus, in the final analysis, Hillary had to suck it in MS, anyway, the particulars notwithstanding; Obama won here, and big.
Kleeb’s winning pretty big at 5% in. 72% of the vote or some other obscene number like that.
41% in for MS-01, and it’s 53-47% in Childers’s favor. Looks good, because DeSoto County (weak area for him) is already coming in, while his stronghold in Prentiss County has yet to report to my knowledge.
46% in, Childers now up 54-46%.
Here’s the link to the Nebraska SOS’s website

she owes the boy that sold his bike,…a damn multi millionaire and stealing childrens money like that!!!
well I could point him to Barack Obama Is Your New Bicycle, but let’s go here instead.
Sad. Hillary says overwhelming support from a sorry state full of fat, nicotine stained, alcohol addled, bigoted, wheezing, emphysemic high school dropouts is indicative of broader national electability. Maybe it’s a more prevalent demographic than I’d care to ponder…..
Hey, why the smoker-bashing? All us smokers are in Virginia and North Carolina, where we whooped Hillary’s rear end. Don’t blame us for those coal-stained yahoos.
Yep, it’s all about the fight. The South’s been very good this cycle to our guy Obama, by and large.
Yep. Don’t completely count us out down here.
Smokers are possibly the most unfortunate yet irredeemibly perverse humans on the planet. Pedophiles rank higher on the evolutionary scale. And sheep coitus seekers.
Wow. That’s pretty…psychotic.
Agreed.
I had something not so kind written here before I decided that your comment here say’s more about your ignorance than anything I could say.
And you think W.Virginians are the backward ones?
better part of valor.
I don’t say this to be a smart-ass, but your candidate got 28 votes so far in the entire state of Nebraska.
Who are you referring to, Boo? That table is being continually updated and I don’t see anybody with 28 votes.
Cynthia McKinney is up to 38 votes.
now now – I’d take a Cynthia McKinney any day over most of the jokers on the Hill
Then things are looking up. 5% could take a while but I sleep better knowing I’m not compromising anymore.
You had BETTER “ponder it” .
They are human; they have a vote; they are if nothing else the victims of this system and it has beenm their vote that brought down the dems and put The Chimp in charge.
LOOK at them.
Do not despise them.
That’s what HRC is doing.
Kneejerk middle class assholes of the left…mark my words.
You are one food shortage riot away from being worse off than the people you so despise.
At least they have weapons.
