If you are wet already, why is it annoying when it starts to rain while you are swimming?

I feel so sorry for you. It’s going up to 99 today.
sounds like you need to take a dip.
In what, Boo….the dog’s water dish? Just quit yer whining.
you may force me to post about more good eatin’.
cause we’re programmed to think “sun and swim, swim and sun” goes together.
it’s high winds and rain here. No seeding. No haying.
that’s totally uncalled for … boo to Boo 🙂
Are you swimming in the lake? Pool? And it’s not ALWAYS annoying. I never minded it in Hawaii…! 😉
’cause then you get wetter.
Lightening? I always wondered how far away the lightening would have to strike for it to effect one that was swimming in a lake.
Don’t try to find out.
Boo, take a break. Get out of the water. Step away from the computer. Find someplace out of the rain. Get a nice plate of antipasti and perhaps some nice Chianti and contemplate the greatness love and goodness. 🙂
I’m just killing time before dinner. My date was held up all afternoon, unexpectedly. I’ve already had a full day with plenty more to do.
Hey BooMan,
you’re tethered to the laptop. Stack in the security safe where you’re staying with strict instructions not to hand it over until checkout time.
Well, I may reconsider that suggestion. We want you back sane. Short of the couch there’s no regimen devised for blogging withdrawal – cold turkey that is.
IMHO rain during swimming is annoying because you chose to get in the water, you don’t get a choice about the water falling on you.
One is you acting, the other is you being acted upon.
I spend time thinking about these things. Sad, isn’t it?

Nope! Especially what we’ve been talking about for the past few months. Hell, the past seven YEARS.
It’s most welcome. At least by me. :<)
…preview is my friend, is it not? :<)
The eyes … its the eyes … both direct and backsplash from the water.
Think it isn’t? Try swimming with your eyes below water and see whether you care if its raining then.
Because you might be struck by lightning. Seriously.
Lightning is a serious concern.
But for me, it is always about the temperature differential: the temperature of the rain doesn’t match the temperature of the sea/lake/pool. So I feel a little funny.
Hey Booman – you’re supposed to be on vacation.
FSM knows there are very few serious answers on the www.
Old habits die too hard. Back away from the keyboard. Set yourself down and send your serious questions to the sky. Then shut up and listen for the answer.
I have a question – does everybody there speak English? What a luxury it must be to travel and find people who speak your language. Hell, I’m in Georgia and can barely understand anybody.
Booman,
That is an existential question that has no correct answer.
Because you want to dry out pretty quickly once you get out.
Otherwise people wouldn’t bring towels with them.
It’s annoying because your towel on the shore is getting rain-drenched.
I loved when we were in Jamaica in the ocean or pool and it would start raining. It was refreshing to me.
It rains all the time in Seattle, so what’s the difference?
I think the answer is that you associate swimming with being on a vacation, and you go vacation at a place that presumably has “vacation-friendly” weather. Thus, when you go swimming, you have an expectation that you are on vacation in a place that is sunny and bright and relaxing, etc. It doesn’t matter that you’re already wet. Raining ruins your vacation “mentality,” which is why you’re annoyed.
Speaking for myself and others who do a lot of lap swimming, a good rain is a nice break from the routine and it’s always fun to see the coaches on deck a little more miserable than the swimmers in the water. So I don’t mind a little rain while I’m swimming…
it’s because it’s a different kind of water (salt vs. sweet) and a different kind of wet. i don’t like getting rained in the ocean either.
interestingly enough, i don’t have the same reaction when am in a pool.
