Amy Klobuchar is working hard to become my favorite senator. And Al Franken has a fight on his hands to even be considered the funniest senator from his state, let alone the whole body.

She visited our little town last fall as part of a rural tour for Obama. We were impressed by her knowledge and easy delivery. Ken Salazar had driven the Obama-decorated rec vehicle carrying Amy and others on the tour. On the way up here, he was pulled over and given a ticket for an upside down date sticker on the license plate. Fault of the lessor of the vehicle, but you can imagine the surprise of the cop when he realized he was ticketing a US Senator in what was clearly an act of harassment!

I’d find her a lot funnier if she was not an ardent supporter of every stupid idea Boy Blunder wanted since she was elected. Iraq war -YES! more money for the Pentagon – YES! More tax cuts – YES! FISA – YES and YES!
To say nothing of her staff which has been disingenuous, dishonest and rude. When I approached her at the precinct caucuses with my complaints about her staff response to constituent concerns she said she’d have someone get in touch with me. I’m still waiting. Other liberals in MN. have had similar experiences.
I don’t give a crap how funny Franken is – I want a real Dem to represent Minnesota.

That’s how he made his rep. As the least funny writer on a TV show that wasn’t funny very often and when it was funny it was mostly in slapstick mode. Belushi tearing up the set, Chevy Chase taking sideways pratfalls, that guy who is no longer even a little funny singing and playing banjo with a fake arrow through his head…YOU know…the white haired guy? I forgot his name the day I saw him try to do Clouseau. Sad. Must’ve had an emergency humorectomy sometime in the way distant past.
In fact…the funniest thing that Al Franken has ever done is his impersonation of a senator.

I find it amusing, yes.
Considering your low opinion of the Stones, I’m surprised you dislike seeing them satirized.
I don’t know why you hate Al Franken. All I know about him personally comes from a friend of mine that once vacationed next to him at some resort in Mexico (back in the 1980’s). And he told me he was a very nice guy and that they had a good time together.
And, even if I thought he lacked talent as a comedian, I wouldn’t hold that against him. Who cares if he’s funny? He’s going to be one of the better votes in the Senate.
And, I really like it when we elect people who are not career politicians. Anytime I see a social worker (Carol Shea-Porter) or a professor (Dave Loebsack) or an organic farmer (Jon Tester) running for office, I get interested. We need less lawyers that clawed their way up in the machine politics of their states and more regular folks. And, yeah, Al Franken is a regular guy when you compare him to the rest of the Senate.
No, he is not.
He is a professional media hustler and is about as sincere as Joe Lieberman or a sidewinder rattlesnake, whichever one comes in lowest in the sincerity ratings.
Sorry man…give me a sincere and talented conservative over an insincere and untalented so-called “liberal” every time.

I’m gonna guess you never actually saw the original SNL. Martin was not & never has been a cast member.
You obviously fall short in the literacy department also. Try having someone read one of Franken’s books to you. I know you’ll have trouble understanding it but try really hard & ask the reader to explain the big words. He is funny as well as a full-on liberal.
We suffered for a time with 2 republican bovines, then gifted the country with Mr. Wellstone to try and make amends. We have had to suffer with the empty suits: Dayton and now Amy. Just having Norm gone is a huge win for the country but it won’t be as good as it can be until we again have an intelligent, vocal liberal representing us again.
Saw it?
Hell, man…I played on it. In the band. Several shows and any number of rehearsals.

Read Franken? A waste of time and energy. Mark Twain was funny. Hunter Thompson was funny, in a tragic sort of way. Joe Bageant is funny. Al Franken is not. Not on any level past that of an infantile, spoiled brat he isn’t.
Franken’s lack of talent and inflated ego were the most important ingredients in the relative failure of Air America.
Come to think of it…lack of talent and an inflated ego are almost job descriptions for most U.S. Senators.
I guess he has finally found his own level.
