        Good morning Boran and SN,

I’m sitting here with George going crazy barking.  We’ve had two people ringing the doorbell before 8:30 and he hasn’t stopped barking since.

Other than that it’s a lovely day down here.  It’s supposed to be clear and in the 90’s today.

        Hope ya’ll are doing well.

            Good morning Mary,

The first was a guy that wanted to know if we wanted any weed eating done.  Since my older brother now takes care of the yard, I got him and he talked to the guy.  He told the guy we already have someone.

The next was a lady that said she was here to clean the house.  I’d never seen her and so I got my sil and brother and they talked to her too.  She had the wrong house.

Usually something like this doesn’t bother me, but we’ve been having a lot of robberies all over town.  Last week they broke into the town hall and got some computers and money.  There’s also a store downtown that has been robbed so many times it’s almost like a joke.  I think the current number is six in the last four months.  I hate to sound paranoid, but I look at people coming up to the house a little closer than I used to.

        Good morning CG,

Had to run someone to the doctor?  I hope everything is all right.

I did a battery check on my laptop the other day and it told me mine was completely dead.  I need a new one, but I hardly ever unplug it from AC, so I’m not too worried.

A nap sounds good, I think you should take one. 🙂

It was a semi-routine visit.  Somebody has pretty severe acne, and we finally have moved on to the more aggressive treatment, after 3 treatment failures with less aggressive therapy.  Hopefully that will get it under control, and without scarring.

I’m actually getting a second wind, now that I’m done with my work for the day, have a new project to look forward to, and need to run over to the farm to pick up our veggies for the week.

          • Family Man
Family Man on June 9, 2009 at 1:27 pm

I hope the treatment works.  I had pretty severe acne from grade school up until my early 20’s.  Luckily there was no scarring.  The funny thing I found out was when I was worried it would get more severe and when everything seemed to be going great it would clear up considerably.

I’m on my last wind and I’m ready for a nap.  Have fun at the farm.

KNUCKLEHEAD on June 9, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Don`t let any doctor get too aggressive with treatments for acne.
I understand it`s a horrible thing but a young friend went through a treatment about 25 years ago & his face started melting off. It turned into a multimillion dollar lawsuit but who cares. The kid was & still is devastated.
I certainly would like to be able to remember what the medication was, but it turned out to have been mistakenly over prescribed by a factor of 10.

CabinGirl on June 10, 2009 at 6:48 am

What happened to your friend sounds awful.

We’ve actually taken the slow approach, and after 5 treatment failures in 10 months, we’re moving on to the next logical and reasonable step.  Hopefully this will work.

Warning, be careful on Twitter, I just made a few comments about a bridezilla in family and then suddenly I thought OMG are they following me, I checked and no they weren’t,  I was following them tho.
that would have been the straw that broke the camels back if the twitter had gone to her.
I thought about doing a diary on the subject (bridezilla) and thought for sure no, that would be way to dangerous.
But I have to get all this off my chest.  It’s a destination wedding in LV, we live in socal and the economy here has hit family business hard and we are scrapping to just do our part of this, family of the groom.
Everyday there are new things that our group has to purchase, dresses that cost $250 have to be altered for about $85, my daughter has all of her children in the wedding party, (for what reason I don’t understand) and therefore has to outfit all of them.  Total cost just for this about $1000.00.
The bride has to have 3 new dresses to get her through this, one for after wedding cost $179.00 which may have been ruined after the engagement pics. at the beach.  Of course shoes and all the things to go with that.
Then bride is having bachlorette party in LV with big ticket shows to see.  As is the groom.  Much more money here.
I was against this big wedding from the beginning, but to satisify all brides family, mormon from Utah, is has to be this way.
The total cost of all of this when you consider 65 people coming from all over with all of their expenses is close to or over $50,000.  The wedding in Vegas is about $5000.00.  I guess this is our way of contributing to the economy even if it ruins our own personal economy.
Side note:  I was able to purchase my dress at a discount store for $12.99 and I made a crocheted throw/shaw to match, cost $8.00 so I am happy that at least one person has been able to lower cost.
As you maybe can imagine this is driving all of us up a wall and we are just hanging on to make it through without a major upset.  My twitter if it had gone to them would have done that.
Ok I feel better now that I got that out. lol.
    Have a great day everyone.

I hate weddings – I truly do.  The hype, the expense, the obligatory shower-giving, the expensive gifts that you are almost blackmailed into giving.  I hope we can forget about this stupid custom of expecting the bride’s parents to give a lavish wedding, let alone inviting a young woman to be a bridesmaid and then forcing her to spend hundreds of dollars on a hideous dress she’ll never wear again.  Just say no to big weddings. :/  It’s the marriage that counts, not the wedding.

        diane101 on June 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm

I hate weddings to, at least these big ones, so I totally agree withyou.  And these dresses are brown, yes I said brown, and really an awful shade of brown, and my daughter had to buy 2 as her daughter is a bridesmaid too.
I got married in our backyard the last time and guests brought the food, it was fun, except for hubby and I who were fighting that day.  So it only cost us for the minister.

Wow! Hope you make it through all this! Mrs. ID and I were married at home in the living room in front of the wood stove. Yeah, we had our Rolling Stone and Mother Earth News, with a little Rodale on the side. Sometimes, I remember what Hunter Thompson wrote about the high-water mark in the desert where the wave broke.

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . .

And that, I think, was the handle–that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . . .

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark — that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

Boy you bring back memories, I wrote something in 1975 for a contest in Mother Earth, didn’t win, but spent 3 mon. writing on typewriter and getting a friend to make copies at work.
And we knew all these things that have come to pass then,(like energy) and still they came and still we have done nothing to stop it.

We eventually sold our place in the country and moved to a little house in town where Mrs. ID has her workspace in the living room and one of the bedrooms. That leaves us the big kitchen and a bedroom, but we’re very happy with that space and its a low energy user to boot. I still garden a lot, although there are more flowers than vegetables these days. Can’t seem to help myself when the seeds and plants go on sale every spring. We still try to walk gently on the earth in many ways. Good to hear from a kindred soul, Diane and it appears we’re about the same age, as I just started Medicare this month!

It reminds me of how much people pump into the “economy” when someone dies, & the ads on the TV machine don`t help either.
Marry for love & take the $50,000.00 to start your family in security.
Don`t marry for the wonderful dress-up photo op.
I have one suit, one for weddings & the same one for funerals, mine included.
I am glad though that no one, (so far) has been hurt by the bridezilla tweet.

Everyone here is doing as well as can be expected.  I’m still going through my up and down times.  Right now I’m trying to get through some dental work.  I had some extractions done and got an upper denture last week.  I’ve been miserable with it since then.  The dentures seem to fit pretty good, but the area around the extractions just keeps aching.  I had the same thing happen from some other extractions a month ago so I’ll give this another week and see what happens.

Other than that as usual I’m waiting for some family that’s here to clear out so I can get some peace and quiet.  With George as old as he is I’m still amazed that he can keep a constant bark going.  So everyone is leaving Saturday and I’m looking forward to it. 🙂

Its like this only hickory. Can’t seem to find the hickory one online. I did something similar in one of the bathrooms several years ago and it came out great. The hard stuff is moving the furniture working around door openings. Once you’re away from the wall it goes pretty quickly. Got to watch the knees at my age, though. Too much kneeling produces lots of pain for several days. I’ve made a kneeling pad out of a couple of pieces of foam insulation and duct tape (which works for nearly any project). If the library had any DVDs of old “Home Improvement” shows, I’d borrow a couple and watch ’em just to get in the right mood.

Hi boran2! Since we have extremely limited storage space, my construction material storage time is limited to early fall, when the house plants have to come back in for the winter. Otherwise, I guess we’ll have to sit on and eat off the boxes in the kitchen;-)

That looks good.  Mil bil put down a dark wood.  Not sure what type it’s supposed to be.  He’s lucky in that his son is a regular home repair wizard.  After he helped his Dad put done the wood floor, he and his wife put down a marble type tile floor in the kitchen.  It helps that his wife is an interior decorator.  I kept telling them they could come over here and put down the wood and tile floors for practice, but they wouldn’t buy into it.

Yep you’ve got to watch those knees and back.  Foam insulation and duct tape?  Don’t ja just love duct tape.  So versatile. 🙂

IDtY is helping with the flooring part. He just got done doing his living room with the real thing (bamboo) and it looks great! That stuff is hard as a brick!

Glad you’ve got some help on doing that flooring.  Just in the last week or so I saw on one of the home improvement show a couple putting down bamboo flooring in their house.  You’re right, it does look great.

It’s only supposed to be about 80 here today.  It was humid yesterday then suddenly last evening it cooled off and was beautiful.  I opened all my windows.

        Good morning Mary,

I’ll gladly take some of that cool off that you’re getting.  I just looked at our 10 day forecast and we’ll be staying in the low to mid 90’s the whole time.  Not much chance of rain either.  I can see the lawn will be turning a nice shade of brown soon.

It seems to be less humid here now than early this morning. Maybe some of the 3″ or so wet stuff we got earlier this week is beginning to evaporate.

Because in the Smokies, this is NOT a creek; it’s a trail.

That does look kinda rough.  Now a good wife upon seeing her husband had developed blisters would have carried him piggyback down the trail.  😉

      Helmet ON!

Jim didn’t carry me* when I broke my leg while we were hiking so I think our attitude is a bit different than yours. 😉

        * he did carry my backpack.

Jim was just being kind to you.  By not carrying you he was trying to make you think it wasn’t as bad as it probably was.  By carrying your backpack he was probably trying to show you he was lightening your load and making you comfortable.

Geeze Andi, a little broken leg as compared to blisters.  After all he did, now don’t you feel guilty for not piggybacking him down the trail.  🙂

Looks like high-top boots with plenty of ankle support are a necessity around those parts.

A lot of the trails in the Smokies are really rocky (and just to be extra cruel, pretty steep). It’s definitely no place for someone with weak ankles.

sheesh.   Was that picture for me?

I’d rather go to the spa 🙂

But think how much better the spa would feel after hiking on rolling cobbles for a few miles.

Nope. That picture was for Jim.

But you can still go to the spa. 😉

Glad you and Jim got back home safe and sound.

We had some pretty high winds and some lightening last night, but oddly it only sprinkled for a short time.

Today it’s hot and humid again.

We had big storms here but they all happened while we were gone. Looks like we’re going to have nice weather this week … unforunately, I’m going to be BCRoDing it in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, I can’t say I was too thrilled about the timing of the two trips but if we hadn’t gone on vacation now, we wouldn’t have been able to the Smokies until July and that’s way too hot and humid.

Down South doing anything during July and August is just to hot and humid.  Actually I’d like to learn how to hibernate under air conditioning for two months so I could just sleep through that part of summer.

One good thing for you though, you did get to the Smokies before the Beige Room beckoned.

Well it might have been nice to have vacation to look forward to after but better weather won out.

July and August here can be pretty miserable too — we usually get a number of 90/90 days. Yuck, I hate even thinking about it.

For the next 10 days we have 90’s everyday.  So I’m like you in that I hate to even think of July and August.

But things are looking up.  As of 5:00 am peace and quiet descended upon this house.  It’s so great to listen to nothing.  Even George seems to be starting to relax.  I’ve got a sister and bil who are dropping off some ferns for me to watch while they’re gone and then it no family for a week.

Enjoy the peace and quiet (and the hum of the air conditioning).

The dogs are telling me that I need to enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods before the rain arrives.

            See ya later.
