Hi CG!
We saw Counting Crows who were really good, and Alison Kraus, who sang a religious spiritual that did not elicit a particularly enthusiastic response from the godless, heathen NYC crowd. Then there was an endless stream of politicians and the ground was getting very hard so we decided to catch the remainder on TV.
Sorry – last night I hit the post button instead of review and off the message went! Then off to bed.
The National Parks Series will be on PBS starting this Sunday night, and I think, continuing through the week. I’m not sure when the concert is on – they seemed to be broadcasting live to some places last night – but not sure which cities. Really looking forward to series, though feeling a little embarrassed that I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon or Yosemite Park. New incentive to plan a trip!
I’m so glad it’s Friday. I’m heading in this afternoon for a teambuilding type thing, but have today off otherwise. Gym and a yard sale pre-sale tis morning (need a new car seat for CBtB…)
I actually have my strollers and some of my favorite baby clothes tucked away, but that’s about it. Some things (like an infant car seat) I always borrowed and never owned, but most of my friends are long out of the baby routine or else just entering it, so yard saling is the next best thing, especially for stuff that people outgrow in a few months.
My big project for this weekend is finding a childbirth class for us to go to that isn’t TOO crunchy granola…
What are you doing this weekend, besides recovering from the BCROD experience?
That sounds pretty good too. CBtE has been home with a weird skin rash/infection (responding to antibiotics, which is good), and CBtY has had a nasty cold all week, so I’ll be doing a lot of cleaning up this weekend. How can they use so many dishes in 8 hours?
I looked on Craigslist, but the people around here list their stuff at outrageous prices. I mean, really now, it’s used, and I could pay less at the consignment shop than they’re asking.
I was going to check the expiration and recall status on my iphone before I bought it…we’ll see.
I’ve noticed with the economy people are selling stuff to make ends meet…and raising their asking price. Doesn’t mean you have to pay it though. When I list things I go about 25% over what I expect to get.
Well, the carseat was past the potentially okay date, but I got some really cute baby clothes for a buck a piece. I love yard sales. 🙂
I know the asking price is just a starting point, but when somebody is that far over the reasonable mark (IMO), I don’t even want to be bothered with them. But that’s just me.
swimmer was in isolation in her dorm room with (presumed) swine flu last week. More than 100 cases in one week at her college. Fortunately, the college has a good health system/coverage.
OTOH, I’m not entirely convinced it was H1N1 – she, and most others, recovered after only 4-5 days and not many were actually tested for it.
We’re still in the clear here, but that’s supposed to end tomorrow.
Not much going on today. Yoga this morning, cleaning, grocery store, picking up CBtE from his friend’s house. He’s loving his new bike (birthday present), and even took it for its first bus ride yesterday. Ah, independence. 🙂
I got a whole bag of cute baby clothes for $13 (a buck an outfit), which made me feel like I accomplished something. I also pulled out my old stroller to scrub up today, and I have a box of special favorite baby clothes that I need to pull out and wash.
He got a Trek 7.2FX, hybrid bike. Skinnier tires, but mt bike handlebars. And he loves not needing a ride everywhere. I love not needing to pay higher car insurance or extra gas money. 🙂
Then it was good planning having another boy so you could reuse the clothes. 🙂 But, dammit, don’t you remember how they have 3 billion adorable things for girls and one lonely rack of baby boy clothes?
Yep. The maternity clothes have gotten cuter, but the overwhelming slant of cute stuff for girls vs camo and football for boys hasn’t changed one iota.
He’s here, but not very motivated…Maybe these will be my breakfast treat tomorrow. I wonder if I have enough oats…do you think they might be sugary enough to cause gestational diabetes after a single bite? 😉
Lovescreeper is a vine that is especially fond of fence posts – which can make for lovely fences when it’s in bloom.
The dogs get a bit stir crazy with prolonged rains. This tends to lead to unacceptable levels of wrestling in the house, followed closely by their being ejected. Which is followed about ten minutes later by lots of toweling off to remove the rain and mud. Repeat.
Mr. “I-don’t really like beets” actually liked the beet salad as it was; CBtY and I liked the roasted beets by themselves and would use less goat cheese next time.
The cookies are good, although seriously huge (and it made a ton of dough). As CBtY said “I’m not complaining, but monster cookies really aren’t you, mom.”
I think I’m going to refrigerate the rest of the dough and bake again mid-week. Maybe add some raisins…
They are really good. Worth the effort, but make sure you have someone else to send them home with – it makes that much dough.
We’re going to watch the Business of Being Born tonight. I just watched the trailer, and I realized how out of the babymaking loop I’ve been…people schedule inductions and c-sections as a preferred method of giving birth? Who knew?
Yeah! There are all of those shows on TLC and I’m amazed at the convenience births. On the upside, it seems like pain management has advanced a lot since I had the last baby 19 years ago. 🙂
How does someone in your house like all of that birthing business?
I thought the movie was pretty good, and nice to see women in labor/giving birth in a more normal way (ie, not in the Simpsons/sitcom/ER episode kind of way).
I’ll let himself answer your birthing business question… 😉
I loved my doctor, she always said that childbirth isn’t a medical situation, but it can become one in the blink of an eye. She was very non-interventionist even back then, and I remember by my last one they were telling me it wasn’t time to push yet and she said “I’ve learned with Second Nature that you have to let her do what she’s gonna do!”…:)
She sounds like a good one. I have the same midwife I did with the CBs, and I really like her. She has a partner now (also very nice), though, so I’m wondering how that will work out when the time comes…
Hi everyone! It’s a damp gray day here…warm and damp.
Andi, are you off to see MaryB? Have fun!
What’s everyone else up to?
Well first I have to work for 8-9 hours and then I get to go see Mary.
And now I’m off to get ready for going to work.
See ya later.
Have a good time!
Have fun!
We’re just back in from Feel Free, the concert is still on – but these geezers are in need of some rest.
Looking forward to the film.
That looks so cool! Which bands did you see?
Hi CG!

Then there was an endless stream of politicians and the ground was getting very hard so we decided to catch the remainder on TV.
I’ve never seen Counting Crows, but I would’ve liked to see Alison Krauss again.
Is it on PBS?
Hi CG –

… it was AndiF and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Now I’m just hoping not to do another one today: Could be Worse!
Mostly I’m just want to get out here early enough to drive home tonight.
Upside was that dinner with Mary was great. Food was scrumptious and the company was even better.
Good morning!
Sounds really bad…
The BCRoD developed fangs?
It was Murphy’s Law to the max.
And now I’ve got to get ready to find out whether it could be worse or not.
Talk to you tomorrow.
Good luck! I hate having those kinds of days, but at least you got to unwind with a nice dinner and great company.
Uh oh – here’s hoping for better times today.
Hoping for a better day today.
’cause I’m back home again in Indiana.
And I’m glad to say it turned out that it wasn’t worse.
TFSMIF everyone.
Glad it was a better day for you!
I’m so glad it’s Friday. I’m heading in this afternoon for a teambuilding type thing, but have today off otherwise. Gym and a yard sale pre-sale tis morning (need a new car seat for CBtB…)
Oh yeah, I’ll bet you don’t have a lot of old baby stuff hanging around from the last two. 🙂

Well happy shopping.
No plans at all this weekend … which is fine with me.
That sounds pretty good too. CBtE has been home with a weird skin rash/infection (responding to antibiotics, which is good), and CBtY has had a nasty cold all week, so I’ll be doing a lot of cleaning up this weekend. How can they use so many dishes in 8 hours?
Sound like there’s one “boy” at the house that is in good working order. Put him to work. 🙂
The well one was the one ferrying everyone to the doctor, in to school late, to the pharmacy, etc this week. 🙂
I think he needs to mow the lawn, though.
The dogs think I need to go with them into the woods.
Good luck at the sale.
See ya later.
Craigslist, if it’s really active in your area, is a great place for baby stuff.
I’d buy the car seat new, though.
Yep. They change them all the time, and some have been recalled.
I looked on Craigslist, but the people around here list their stuff at outrageous prices. I mean, really now, it’s used, and I could pay less at the consignment shop than they’re asking.
I was going to check the expiration and recall status on my iphone before I bought it…we’ll see.

This is unacceptable in such a wealthy country. We all know someone who is in this situation.
22 year old dead because she didn’t have insurance
There are a lot of people in that situation. It’s tragic and disgusting.
swimmer was in isolation in her dorm room with (presumed) swine flu last week. More than 100 cases in one week at her college. Fortunately, the college has a good health system/coverage.
OTOH, I’m not entirely convinced it was H1N1 – she, and most others, recovered after only 4-5 days and not many were actually tested for it.
Foggy/rainy here but, other than the grocery, we don’t have to go anywhere or do anything so I’m good. Hope you are all too.
How was your shopping expedition yesterday?
What kind of bike did he get?
I got a whole bag of cute baby clothes for $13 (a buck an outfit), which made me feel like I accomplished something. I also pulled out my old stroller to scrub up today, and I have a box of special favorite baby clothes that I need to pull out and wash.
He got a Trek 7.2FX, hybrid bike. Skinnier tires, but mt bike handlebars. And he loves not needing a ride everywhere. I love not needing to pay higher car insurance or extra gas money. 🙂
Well sounds like big successes all round. 🙂
Then it was good planning having another boy so you could reuse the clothes. 🙂 But, dammit, don’t you remember how they have 3 billion adorable things for girls and one lonely rack of baby boy clothes?
Yeah but at least she’ll be able to buy clothes that come in colors other than pink.
Oh, you’re so out of it Aunt Andi. It’s all about brown and lavender, and more brown…and some pink in there.
I was out of it too. When did all this brown for babies thing happen? It’s so drab…I want purple and green and turquoise.
I have to run to yoga-see you all around lunchtime!
Earth tones?
It’s more chocolate and beige. Not my cup of tea.
Hmmm… could be pretty spill-friendly, though;-)
My elderly house-mate likes wearing brown for that very reason.
And happily so — that’s why I just give the parents money and let them buy what they want.
The dogs are saying that I’m not sufficiently out of it so now I have to get outta here.
See ya later.
Yep. The maternity clothes have gotten cuter, but the overwhelming slant of cute stuff for girls vs camo and football for boys hasn’t changed one iota.
One of these kids ain’t so bantum:
The rain let up long enough for us to go for a walk yesterday. But the deluge is back again today. So much for getting any work done outside.
Do these sound like a decent ringer for your monster cookies? I came across the recipe and am wondering if they might be worth the effort…
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
That was my thought too. 🙂
Now, who can I convince to bake them for me? thinkthinkthinkthinkthink….
Basically, if it contains chocolate, I’m there.
I learned to bake by the time I was ten. Surely there’s a youngster in your house who could learn to bake with cookies as the incentive.
He’s here, but not very motivated…Maybe these will be my breakfast treat tomorrow. I wonder if I have enough oats…do you think they might be sugary enough to cause gestational diabetes after a single bite? 😉
Yes, they will. For your own safety you must box them while still warm from the oven. I will send you the address of a needy recipient.
Thanks for looking out for me. 🙂
LOL
Yes.
But who could stop at a single bite? I can’t even stop at a single cookie.
I wanted to know how many cookies the recipe makes…don’t want to be having anything this big.
Of course, I’m sure the CBs will help polish them off. 🙂
Yeah, I was wondering what a pound of peanut butter would do…
On the other hand, their roasted beet and goat cheese salad look delish! I’m on a beet bender lately.
That does look really good. And I have a bunch of beets I need to use up too.
Sounds right. Just missing the raisins (though you can get them w/o as well).
Did you make them?
I’m thinking about making them today. It has been pouring since about 630 last night, so I’m looking for indoor entertainment today.
Nothing beats the smell of cookies in a closed up house.
It rained here bunches yesterday and I think that’s heading your way. So your plan sounds like a good one.
I always leave raisins out of baked goods. I like raisins, just not baked.
Morning Andi. Guess what? It’s still raining here. Imogen’s just gone outside to empty the rain gage – again. Oy vey.
If you look here I’ve posted some photos that I took during a brief dry spell yesterday.
Notice the very happy mosses, liverworts, and fungi.
Your pond recovery must be going well but I imagine the dogs aren’t enjoying all the rain very much.
Your walk diary is gorgeous. I really like the lovescreeper (what a great name).
Repeat.
Still raining here, too. I think it’s day 5? Not a great amount of water, just drizzly and dark out. Makes me want to sleep.
Its still dingy here too, but the weather oracle says clearing around midday. It would be nice to see some sunshine after a week of rain.
It’s raining here too but we probably need it.
We definitely needed it here. The soil was like breadcrumbs.
At last – the sun peeks through.
The monster cookies AND the beet salad.
The verdicts:
I make a version of that beet salad alot, and use feta instead…and not very much of it. Also add some toasted walnuts. Yum.
The cookies sound delish!
Who knew?

I think we need a new cafe this morning.
Ken Burns’ series on the national parks started tonight (@ 8) – on right now, 2-hr episode.
darn, we missed it. I’ll have to find it on itunes or something.
There are 5 more episodes — it’s on every night this week.
I guess it will be perfect bedtime watching then…I’m becoming a geezer. 🙂
What is this pale blue thing I see above the clouds on the horizon? It seems strangely related to the luminous warmth on my skin.
All September it’s seemed like all our mornings are like this:
