“A new government-run plan would underpay doctors and hospitals rather than driving real reforms that bring down costs and improve quality,” America’s Health Insurance Plans President and CEO Karen Ignagni said in a statement. “The divisive debate about a government-run plan is a roadblock to reform.”
Aw, poor baby. Shedding those crocodile tears for doctors and hospitals. I guess openly declaring that AHIP will defend its right to rape the American public wouldn’t sound too good.
The same doctors the insurance companies have been underpaying with “usual and customary fees” for years? So fickle, these insurance execs.
Lovely.
Does Ms. Ignoramus write copy for CNN? My only interaction with BigMedia is through blogs covering it or CNN cut-ins on the local Air America affiliate. Heard one today that basically mirrored the above quote. And that was the anchor – not a selective soundbite.
I was amazed at how misleading the writing was in this “report” from the supposedly Librul Media. I think I heard “government-run healthcare” said 5 times in about 30 seconds, with no mention that its not run by the government and it’s heath insurance…not “healthcare.”
Since real government-run healthcare, or single-payer, has proven to be the best option for decades, all around the industrialized world, we would only be so lucky to have that happening tomorrow.
Yet Ms. Ignoramus is considered “serious” and given unlimted airtime, while us single-payer advocates are considered “fringe.” Media reform is the #1 issue for our generation in my opinion. Every other issue is based upon it.
.
Ignagni: “a natural step in my career.” AHIP’s report: PricewaterhouseCoopers.
"But I will not let myself be reduced to silence."
…natural step.. indeed. Thanks for the link.
The devisive debate? Were unilaterally disrupted townhall meetings part of that debate?
Or putting out misleading reports weren’t divisive.
All that good Bull S$#$…read this release from Kansas City St. Lukes Hosptial dropping United Healthcare..it appears United Healthcare was underpaying St. Lukes Hospital..

U mad Karen?
One of the few enjoyable things about this debate has been watching the likes of AHIP stumble with their talking points. They seem to have blown their wad pretty early, and nobody really flinched.
i can understand where this individual is coming from. (though i detest everything that she stands for and represents)
however, what is driving me crazy is the public posturing of those memers of congres that reflects an obvious disdain for their citizens. do they not hear the anguish and pain of the ongoing stories of the horrors that the private insurance industries actions have caused for their own voters? don’t they see that the grotesque lies and verbal manipulations that they have presented are simply the actions of a group of people that care nothing for their own fellow humans?
but then i think about a society that has allowed millions to suffer and die as the owners reap their obscene profits. i hear the rants of the hucksters that pose as journalists and i truly understand the insanity that controls this country today. and i gotta tellya all- i don’t think that the reforms that we all so desperately need will pass. i don’t think that there is the will to make it happen– yet.
They don’t care
wow.
what a little piggie.
It just goes to show. She used to work for the AFL-CIO. Sounds like she just viewed that as a stepping stone(a la Tweety or Big Tim) and that her conscience was/is for sale.
Ms. Ignagni seems unable to distinguish between a feature and a bug. I hope she’s right that we’re going to pay less.
