Welcome to Friday Foto Flogging, a place to share your photos and photography news. We were inspired by the folks at European Tribune who post a regular Friday Photoblog series to try the same on this side of the virtual Atlantic. We also thought foto folks would enjoy seeing some other websites so each week we’ll introduce a different photo website.
This Week’s Theme:
Self-Portraits. Wilderness wench and KNUCKLEHEAD requested this theme idea. If you don’t feel comfortable posting a self-portrait, pick a photo that represents you in some way.
Website(s) of the Week: Nature Conservancy Member Photos.

Previous Friday Foto Flogs
They’re all great shots but I just love the top shot — big snort for that one. 🙂
Hey refinish! So great to see you posting in the flog … 😀 And I’m w/ Andi, lol re the first and second one too … 😀
I gotta agree with Andi & olivia, the first one is a hoot! All are fun!
Nice shots, and welcome to the Flog!
Earthly Limitations

Reflection

I love these. The bumper shot is great!!!
I think that’s one of the best reflection portraits I’ve seen — it’s perfectly lit.
Hi Bob. Agree w/ refinish and Andi — that bumper shot is so clear!
Thanks for the great comments everyone, The bumper is a repeat but you never know who hasn’t seen it.
in my sister’s yard in Cleveland.
Really imaginative shot — -plus, Cleveland has never looked so cool before.
Creative … love it … 🙂
Now We all get to peel back the veneer and see what everyone looks like!
MUHAHahHAhAhAhahAhAhAhAhA!

Three O’ Me
Putting A Face To It All
Er, Uh…
Eyes
Cards
I think that’s enough for now.
Fun stuff — I especially like the headless couch potato.
I love how completely stoned out of my mind I look in the top picture, even though I’m not. I think it was early in the morning and I was just waking up.
You do look like you’re about 2 seconds from saying “wow man, I am so hungry. Got a brownie?”
lol
LOL!!! Nice work on these … you’re good at it!
Very imaginative – cool shots!
Eyes is intense. Nice shots, looks like you had a good time with it.
Ursula and I. Assignment for my one and only painting class (48″x36″).
wow, that is really good! Who knew you were a painter?
Not me.
I’ve only done two paintings, and both of them were for this one class.
I’m fairly good at making most forms of art (she says modestly – I do have a BFA (Summa cum Laude), I’ve just never aspired to be a painter. Maybe someday I’ll learn a bit more and take it up again.
It is a beautiful piece, far better than most of what I see at the local art shows.
Very nicely done!
Keres,
A very powerful portrait.
That’s a great shot! I’ll have to show my friend who has the Pyr. She will squeal with delight!
I’ll do a recap of Luna’s inglorious Agility career in the next Dog Blog for your friend’s amusement.
I love this picture – that determined face, those dainty feet.
Oh, you mean her feet.
I especially like that you can just see her extra-hairy extra toes at the very bottom of the photo.
Seconding SN’s wow … wow! keres, you are multi-talented!
Love the Luna-in-action capture too.
That’s a wonderful portrait of you and Ursula and also of companionship.
Love the photo of you and Luna working togetehr too.
These are all great! So glad you picked up on our suggestion.
Hiya ww. Thanks for the suggestion … 🙂
Good to see you, Miss O! I envy your relationship with the nut-hatch. Thankfully, they’ve got amazing confidence ..
Indianadem contemplates the Great Pumpkin, apparently a somber occasion.
LOL ID!
Alas, poor Yorick…
Artist confronts another blank page/canvas.
Did the pumpkin survive this encounter unscathed?
Did you?
Wow, that was so dark it scared me. Here’s something a little lighter – my window to the world.
I’m so glad to know the county assessor understands the need for appropriate attire.
That’s at my desk at home. For the office, there’s the formal propeller beanie.
I like this one, this could be another idea for a future Flog, work spaces.
Noted … 🙂
The front porch pumpkin usually winds up decorated for Halloween, then changes costumes for Thanksgiving & Christmas. I’m trying to decide what would be apropos for its next incarnation. As for me, I’m normally a bit wacky anyway.
Very nice portrait.
Somber, but with a “Welcome Friends” sign, & a pumpkin for color, it`s classic Americana art.
Thanks! The “Welcome Friends” is a gift from the s-i-l, painted on an old piece of roofing slate. I kinda like it.
Deep thought with the punkin.
I’m on the right.
That cracks me up every time!
Agree w/ you there ID … always brings a smile. 🙂
Nice choppers!
I’m glad you pointed that out — I was so confused.
Sometimes a photograph really will capture your soul. It happened to me somewhere in Canada c. 1970

What a great shot ~ timeless.
Alice
A beautiful soul.
Just because it seems like just the right thing to say about that photo — far out!
You look quite contented, there on your boulder. A good memory.
That’s a nice shot!
A photo that captures happiness … it’s lovely!
Andi, your first one is absolutely surreal! Is that actual terrain somewhere?
Yep, it’s a very real geologic wonderland called The Wave.
Taken in the span of about six years.
DFH Reflected in a DFW

You are such a stud. 😉
#7 is my favorite — love the glow (or maybe that’s your aura I’m seeing).
You have an amazing appearance KNUCKLEHEAD. These are wonderful photos.
Boran2, Thanks,
Most self portraits are hard to shoot.
Where do you look.
I do some in mirrors. Again, where to look.
Some on a timed release have to be prefocused.
You then have to run around in front of the camera & guess where the focal length is.
I do them to problem solve.
The only other portraits I take are of my granddaughters.
No one else will pose, that`s why I have so many images of statues & busts, trying to get better at taking them.
Going down through the diary, I noticed IndianaDem had a great one.
The one with the pumpkin.
(A little dark by his own admission, but very nice feeling in it.)
Here`s one I took last Sat. on a solo run up the coast on my trusty 1937 “suicide” Knucklehead. The ocean is right in front of where I am.
These are beautiful, ‘Head.
So nice to see you smile!
Wilderness wench,
I`m happy you noticed.
Someone had remarked that I never seemed to smile.
In reality, I`m always laughing.
Good! It’s great medicine.
I like the fourth (smiley) one, though they’re all kind of amazing.
A great set, with an unmistakable joie de vivre contained in your sparkling eyes.
Great set ‘Head. Is that Knucklehead the same one that is in the other photo you post? It’s a nice one. Keep the rubber on the road.
Bobx,
That`s the only Knuckle I have now & have had it for years & years.
You may have seen this one in different paint, or a previous stretched 46 Knuckle that was stolen in a past life.
Love the smiling eyes in #4!
Olivia,
It was probably because of something you said.
I like the depth in this photo, Jim. I see harmony.
That’s such a good portrait it makes me feel like I’ve known you for decades. 😛
I think we both must have been pooped out last night. You look almost as tired as I did in my first photo. The warm surroundings appear conducive to relaxation, however, so enjoy;-)
Handsome!
SN, Do you have a sudden desire for B-R-A-I-N-S?
Eating tongue at your house (heh) convinced me that I would not like brains at all. Even covered in deli mustard on good Jewish Rye.
Eek … and here I thought they ate salads and hummus every night … 😉
Second Nature,
If I`ve ever teased you or anything, I`m sorry.
Hah.
We all know though, that under that mask lies an angel.
Aw, don’t worry about me, Head. When I washed the mask off I looked even scarier, though. 🙂
Supremely luscious, as usual.
My best look is covered in mud…always.
You inspire naughty thoughts with that comment, dear.
I shall say no more.
😉
I guess between that and my comment to Jim about eating tongue, I was doomed.
Absolutely.
This must have been taken right as you were about to say to Ryan “You’re doing what!???!!”
Oh please,no! Tell us you’re not secretly a mime!!
Occasional shots from nine bizarre years.
I love these! Especially the one of you lying on the ground with the kitty.
Yes — the ever-feral Miss Kate. She was pregnant at the time.
Glad you like these. I have an inordinate amount of fun taking my own picture.
(Must be the legacy of an only child. I talk to myself, too.)
I absolutely hate photos of myself. I have almost none of me with my kids, or alone. I’ve been trying of late to let people take one now and then, just so my kids will have the when I’m gone.
Frankly, I hate having my picture taken. Strange.
I suppose it’s a matter of controlling my own image & what happens to it. (This from someone who once posed for porn — but nevermind!)
Having photos of those who’ve passed is actually a great thing, because our memories of what made someone who they are tend to fade out. Photos help us recall more precisely.
I just put my pictures on the interwebs!!
It’s frustrating to me because I never seem to recognize (or like) myself in pictures. It’s like it’s all wrong; it doesn’t match how I see myself. I much prefer the mental picture to reality.
I’ve gotta wonder which is actually closer to ‘real’, since a photo doesn’t change in any dynamic way.
You probably dislike depictions of reality because you’re a realist.
🙂
I’m going to have to mull that over while I fall asleep. ‘night.
Hope the sound of gentle rain accompanies you tonight. We’ve got some now, too.
‘Night!
What a wonderful set and what a wonderful face — full of stories and emotions and ideas and life. My favorite is the second from the bottom — it reminds me how much I’d love to share a good laugh with you IRL.
This is a nice collection. Love the black and white.
Fabulous black & white cross-over.
I like the half reflection, nice shot.
Thank you for the compliments, folks!
Andi: may it be so. With new teeth.
Love them all … esp love the one w/ Miss Kate and the one of you laughing in colour. Like Andi, it made me think of sharing your laugh. That you captured a real moment of joy. But most of all, I get a feeling of serenity or peace from viewing them…that’s how I think of you… 🙂
What a interesting flog! I never would have thought it would have turned out like this. Awesome.
an off-theme picture but I was down in Ocean City, NJ yesterday checking out the storm damage to the beach and I got this one shot that several people, including myself, liked a lot so I thought I’d share it with the group here.
It’s perfect – thanks.
That could be any one of us.
A really lovely shot. I think of ocean metaphors.
I really like it too, ss.
with my little eye… lots and lots of wonderful photographs and beautiful photographers too.
Oh how I have missed FFF!
Welcome back!
And don’t stay away so long. We miss you … and your nifty photos.
What a nice composition! You’ve got a good eye.
😉
Lovely grey … 🙂 We’ve missed you too, tampopo!
