I nominate Travis Corcoran, a comic book retailer and erstwhile part time blogger, who cheered the Tucson massacre on his stupid [expletive deleted] blog by suggesting more Congressional members and their staffs should be shot in the head:
A Boston-area blogger who declared “one down, 534 to go” after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has had his gun license pulled and a “large amount” of weapons removed his home. […]
Corcoran reportedly declared on his blog, “It is absolutely, absolutely unacceptable to shoot indiscriminately. Target only politicians and their staff and leave regular citizens alone.”
The “534 to go” comment appeared to refer to the other 434 members of the US House, and the 100 US senators.
What a surprise that Massachusetts law enforcement authorities saw this as a threat and an incitement to further gun violence. What a surprise they took away his guns and his gun license. I assume he didn’t agree with President Obama that we all need to tone down the violent political rhetoric. Of course, that assumption also assumes he heard Obama’s speech or read about it.
Look, I understand why some people feel they need guns for self-defense. I understand why some people enjoy hunting using guns. What I don’t understand is someone like Corcoran who has a gun fetish, who owns an arsenal of guns and ammunition, and who, after the tragedy in Tucson, then decided to make public his views that the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords, an elected member of Congress, was a good idea, and then to further state that more shootings of Congressional members and their staffs would be even a better [expletive deleted] idea!
Something tells me this isn’t what our founders intended when they wrote the following as an amendment to the Constitution:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Personally, I think most of them would be appalled by people like Corcoran, just like I am.
I believe it was Rep. Thomas Sumter (S. Carolina) who declared immediately after passage of the Hamilton Tariff of 1789, “This is an abuse of power and we should all be shot for doing this.” So, it’s right there at the beginning with the Founding Fathers.
Nah, he was just a politician. Founder means someone who actually wrote the damn thing or at least debated it.
I guess.
But consider that he was nicknamed the Carolina Gamecock for his tenacious fighting spirit and that the University of South Carolina’s sports teams are named the Gamecocks. Consider that he has forts, counties, schools, roads, parks, a town, etc. named after him. Consider that he served in the first Congress and went on to serve in the Senate. He may not have written the Federalist Papers or signed the Declaration, but he was an important man during the founding of our country.
Plus, I made that quote up.
LOL
Got me.
Corcoran is just the NRA without the mask on.
Certainly the NRA Leadership
