Fast loading of new diary entry = awesome! I should have done it sooner!
WFH today – it’s a good thing, since I ad a scary allergy attack yesterday that didn’t even start to subside until we had drive over to the ER. Not sure what was in the air, but it knocked me for a loop. I couldn’t breathe, I was filing up with fluid so fast, and my inhaler didn’t work at all.
The page loads are much speedier here too! What a welcome change! Sorry to hear about your allergies. My brother was allergic to a lot of various dust particles when he was younger, but seems to have aged out of most of the problem. Hope yours goes away soon!
Most of my work is now WFH and I’m hoping to keep it that way! Our car we bought new in 2004 still has only about 35K miles and it would be nice if we never have to buy another. We can sneer when passing a gas station too!
I think the lack of driving is one of the best things about wfh (which I’m doing again today). Saves me the drive to work, so it’s to start an hour earlier, and I don’t use any gas doing it.
Good morning, all!
I really feel like a vacation now, but had to postpone until late August 🙁
But, long weekend in NY with curly coming up in a few days 🙂
BTW, just spoke with swimmer who seems to have a great (read: eventful) time in Tanzania – last week, robbers scaled the fence, beat up the guard and robbed the office of cash, phones and cameras…
She was on a 2-week field trip a while ago and sent me some photos – the captions are hers:
The road blockage we met after trying to get to Kilosa. We had been driving down this horrible clay road with so many bumps for 2 1/2 hours and then we just had to turn right back and do it again to get back on the highway.
A mother and her healthy child at one of the nicest health centers in Kilosa. They had a staff that was pretty well trained but the place was still quite unorganized.
An older woman in Mbarali, Mbeya. Lots of times mothers would die or disappear and the child would be taken are of grandparents.
Thanks for posting those pictures. I think I won’t be complaining about the state of our county’s road for awhile. And love that mom and baby photo in the middle.
I’m sorry about the postponed vacation. It’s hard when you’re in need of a long break and it gets pushed off; I hope you’re not too burnt out to enjoy your visit with curly.
What an experience. Good to hear she’s enjoying her internship! Thanks for posting her photos — it looks beautiful there. Lots of blues and greens and rich colours.
I’m always grateful for the construction of this old farmhouse in the summer. It seems about 10 degrees cooler inside than outside — just a matter of stone foundation & crawlspace over dirt, up against the hill with a portion below grade. Someday folks will go back to this way of building, to save on energy costs.
It was actually reasonably cool in the house most of the time but when it rained or was very humid the house just seemed to suck up the moisture from all the surrounding trees.
I lived without a/c in southern Cuba for over a year. Summer there and here seems quite similar in both temp and humidity, IIRC, although the mean temp might be a bit more in Cuba. I also recall some guys passing out from heatstroke when staying too long in the sun. Snorkeling the coral reefs there is a much nicer pastime there than mucking about a concrete airstrip.
These days, I’m owning up to being a confirmed a/c addict.
My best buddy studied at Antioch in the early ’70s. I believe he was part of the writer’s program there also. He studied under the poet Miller Williams, who was, I think, poet laureate under Clinton.
(Miller Williams’ daughter is the singer Lucinda.)
I’m sorry about the weather, but happy you have your a/c!
🙂
It’s been absolutely gorgeous here, weatherwise — but I think we’re getting into a dry spell too.
Otherwise, life in the mountains is super-busy. Chores on top of chores, plus guests, gatherings, community stuff, stray cats, sick cats, regional issues wrt hydrofracking nightmare, car issues ..
Alors I’d best sign out & get to it! No more slacking!
We woke up to about 52F this morning. This is absolutely brilliant, fantastic weather — sunny with just a bit of shade, decent humidity. Just wonderful. Excellent weather for my mountains of chores.
It’s so refreshing after all that humidity and heat, isn’t it?
Have fun with the chores! I’m looking forward to an afternoon break from work to go play in the sandbox and pick up our vegetables at the farm with Finny.
We’re into what I hope is just a mini drought here. I started watering the big garden yesterday and laid down some more mulch last night. Seems like a repeat of last year’s pattern, IIRC.

I think my whole work team is wfh today.
Glad you’re okay, CG. madame boran has significant allergy issues but has been okay recently.
These fast pageloads are cool!
Glad your allergy attack subsided. I understand that inability to get air now – painful & panicky.
Glad you are okay. I haven’t had an asthma attack in years but I remember all too well how awful it was not to be able to get a breath.
Once the claritin kicked in, I could breathe a lot better, and I seem fine today. Just a freakish thing, how quickly it came on.
Very, very scary. Yes, a better day today.
Does anyone else miss the kitty-litter-eating troll just a little bit?
FFF is tomorrow and this month’s theme is Summertime and the living is easy.
I have to look at last week’s triplet pool party photos and see if there’s anything summery in there…
sounds like there may be some very cute photos there!
Still waiting to see those pool party photos. I’ll bet you’ve got some adorable shots and we wanna see ’em!
… checks watch.
… checks watch again.
… checks watch yet again.
Yep. Still waiting for those pics. 😛
She’s waiting for good subject matter. Apparently, four babies in a pool just doesn’t cut it.
Heh.
what boran2 said! and good morning, all!
I know, I know…I took some really cute ones of the boys yesterday…just need to upload while I have coffee this am.
obviously, I just forgot I was using someone else’s computer.
CG
Okay, for four babies having fun at a swim party, we can wait a bit … whatever computer you use.
Cool theme!
Good morning, all!

Sorry about your postponed holiday.

Thanks Andi, late August could still be nice at the cabin.
And I agree about the photo; positive and uplifting – it is not all misery.
Wow, she is having quite the adventurous summer!

Thanks, CG.
I’m making it a really long weekend (leaving tomorrow, flying back Monday pm) – almost a mini vacation.
Looks like an interesting internship!
Hi Errol!
Yes, she is thoroughly enjoying her stay there, but only 3 weeks to go.
What an experience. Good to hear she’s enjoying her internship! Thanks for posting her photos — it looks beautiful there. Lots of blues and greens and rich colours.

very beautiful!
Love all the green. 🙂
What a great shot. Both of them are growing up so fast!
That was even a month ago, at CBtE’s high school graduation. I don’t think CBtY knows yet how handsome he is when he smiles. 🙂
Wonderful pic!!! both their expressions!
They were having ball hiking in to the stadium from the parking lot across the street. Finny loves the big brothers.
just adorable how much he loves this big brother! what an expression!
Love this photo.
That’s a great photo – love the smiles. 😀
wow CBtY is all growed up. Great smiles on them both
Okay, both those pictures are completely adorable but, but, but WHERE are the pics of the babies at the pool party!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Near 90 today. And I still haven’t used the a/c. Yet.
Our first summer out in the woods was air conditionless until all of our leather shoes molded.

I like it best when it doesn’t have to be on but on days like we’ve been having, I’m very grateful fpr it.
We’re in a house from the 30s. The small 2nd story retains heat incredibly well. Good in the winter, not good in the summer.
I guess that’s why God invented windows ..
😉
And he invented casement windows only to taunt us. 😉
Testing:
Nice shot!
Welcome to the Frog Pond, janicket!
So this is why you should never let a horse eat a peanut butter sandwich.
LOL! In his case, a molasses sandwich.

And very hump-y at that…Finny was up repeatedly from 4-6:15, then keeled over until I got up at 7. Long day ahead for me…
Nice ferns too! The granddem kids will be here later, so I expect to be worn to a frazzle by the end of the day;-)
Jim and I saw old-timers Nancy (kansas) and Jen (IndyLib) yesterday. Good food + good talk + good friends = a great time.
Very cool.
Did your ears burn? We talked you, especially about how much fun we had in Louisville.
Oh, the envy I am feeling right now! I hope you all had fun together!
We had a great time. And Yellow Springs, Ohio (where Nancy was teaching at writers workshop) is a charming little town.
I’d love to meet them sometime.
Heh, we talked about you too — I mentioned the NYC meetup and Nancy wanted to know all about you. 🙂
Well, I hope that you lied and said good things about me. 😉
Well, it was mostly good. We did mention how we were worried that you and Marlo would come to blows over who would get the most time holding Finn.
Ha! She’d be the loser in that contest. 😉
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Marlo really, really hates to lose.
But I gotta admit, you’ve got natural talent.
Awww
Of course at his current age, Finn would more than likely have his own opinion and squirm his way out.
Just to be fair both sides of the battle (and give Second Nature more baby’s head to imagine smelling).

Finn seems to prefer the taste of Marlo’s shoulder, but boran does seem like a natural baby-whisperer.
Actually Finny seemed to like swimmer (ask’s daughter) best but don’t tell either boran or marlo I said so.
l-r: CabinGirl, Booman, AndiF, JimF, Errol, boran2, ask – and the star of the day, Finn, is being held by my daughter.
It was fun. We should do that again. But where was Dave the astronomer from Australia?
Oh, what fun that was! The good company, the World cup excitement, and the stroll on the high line…
what Boran2 said. And is Yellow Springs where Antioch College is/was? was the writer’s workshop connected with Antioch?
Yep. Antioch was in Yellow Springs.
I see WW answered your question. A little more info — the school closed in the 2008 but is going to start up again this fall.
The writers workshop has been going on for 26 years. Apparently it was started by the school but spun off as a separate entity in the 90s.
Yo, Andi! Glad to see you on my little drive-by.
My best buddy studied at Antioch in the early ’70s. I believe he was part of the writer’s program there also. He studied under the poet Miller Williams, who was, I think, poet laureate under Clinton.
(Miller Williams’ daughter is the singer Lucinda.)
Howdy. How’s life in the mountains? It’s ugly hot here and going to even uglier hotter by Sunday.
Nifty fun fact about Lucinda Williams father being a poet laureate.
I’m sorry about the weather, but happy you have your a/c!
🙂

Hope to see y’all later.
I’m jealous of your weather. Have a good day.
Ooops. My friend studied under the poet at University of Arkansas, not Antioch. Shame on me.
I love Jen. Never met Nancy, but we’re FB friends and I always enjoy her Lipstick Chronicle posts.
You would have been so happy to see Jen — she’s feeling so much better right now after having had a not so good year last year. I sure hope it lasts.
Nancy is a complete sweetie. Maybe we can have another meetup and get her to come.
I’m glad to hear Jen is doing well, and hope it lasts too.
I’d love to do another meetup…if you all will have me! 🙂
I think we can just manage to put up with you. 😛
Cooler here, only low 80s today. At least a brief break from the heat.
We woke up to about 52F this morning. This is absolutely brilliant, fantastic weather — sunny with just a bit of shade, decent humidity. Just wonderful. Excellent weather for my mountains of chores.

Not just for thrash metal loving foodies anymore..
It looks delicious. I’ll look up a recipe. Our narrowband (satellite) internet connection doesn’t allow us to do 14 minute YouTubes too often.
Heh. Narrowband. We’re now back on reliable DSL after some time on dialup.

Not particularly lost ~ just don’t want the weekend to end quite yet. Mrs. ID needs some help and I’ll have to do some actual work this week:(
Oh noes! Hang in there, I’m sure the horror will be over soon.
Nothing, I say nothing can match the horror of full-time county officialdom! Glad that era is past;-)
Oh, not that!
