I loved the thing with Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic women of Congress (including some great candidates for Congress). They came out to “I’m Every Woman,” and left to “”Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” by Arefa and Annie Lennox.
Harry Reid was comcally pugnacious, too.
I don’t really watch much of these things, but I get my enjoyment where I can.
So, what are looking forward to?
Loved the tribute video to Teddy, especially the debate footage where Romney gave a full-throated defense of Roe v. Wade and pledged his eternal support. That should bite R-Money in the buttocks – hard to Ethc-A-Sketch™ that one…
Breaking out Multiple Choice Mitt!!
But they didn’t even show the part that left Willard speechless!!
This guy Castro, I guess – see what he’s all about.
I’ll be curious to hear what Bill has to say tomorrow night too. Don’t always agree with the man, but always like to hear his big picture perspective.
Dean Baker’s writing about your broseph.
Just seeing Tammy Duckworth walk up to the podium was enough, but her speech was also awesome. I love her hitting Mitt for NOT once mentioning the troops or the war still being fought in Afghanistan…well unless you count Clint Eastwood’s rant.
Oh man, Duckworth wailing on Romney for not mentioning Afghanistan was just great. The quote “I dont/you can’t trust Mitt Romney” was perfect, and both Veterans who spoke were fantastic. This stuff is really jazzing me up, I can’t even relate to the constant hatred, bitterness, and resentfulness that I saw coming from the RNC.
I also love the “real” people who they are bringing out.
Unlike with Romney’s people, the DNC people are talking about how Obama’s POLICIES will/has/would affect their lives.
All Romney’s “real” people talked about were how “human” Romney was…nothing on how his policies (if he ever articulated them) would affect them.
Sebelius is a great speaker.
No matter what happens the rest of Castro’s speech (or Michelle Obama’s), the speech of the night was Deval Patrick. No FREAKIN’ doubt about it. He lit the place on fire.
Yes he did!!!

I’m ready to have Patrick replace Arne Duncan at the Department of Education. First time I haven’t heard high-stakes testing or slamming teachers in an education section of a speech from either party in two decades.
Just went and found the video. I’m watching it now, but in case others also want to:
OK, after you and PsiFighter mentioning it, I had to go find a video. Here it is:
Whoops, ignore the second sentence in my post…copy / paste issues 🙂
I was in class until 10, so I missed most of it, but I caught the video montage thing of Michelle Obama, and watching her speak now.
It may be wishful thinking, but I can’t help feeling that people watching at home are going to walk away with a sense of how much hateful garbage has been hurled at Barack and Michelle.
Saw Castro’s speech. He’s very likeable. Very handsome. Very real. He should run for Governor of Texas. And then… maybe President someday?
We don’t see enough of Michelle Obama. I really love her. Who couldn’t? Best First Lady of my lifetime for sure.
First off, folks should see that his brother Jaoquin gets into Congress (running this year for Charlie Gonzalez’s (D) open seat; Gonzalez retired).
I haven’t watched a lot of the convention coverage tonight, but I watched the Deval Patrick speech and am watching Michelle Obama’s speech now (I’m about 10 minutes behind real-time). Both of them have made strong references to marriage equality, which makes me very happy. It gives me a little bit of hope that they realize it is not only the right moral stance to take, but may also be the issue that can be used to wrest control of the GOP away from the religious fundamentalists.
I didn’t think much of Castro since his speech had like eight different rhythms going on in all directions. It was a little hard to hold onto.
The First Lady was pretty much flawless.
Castro’s getting the crowd to chant “No” and then stopping, wagging his finger and saying, “Wait a minute” to refer to Romney’s flip flopping was a great play.
“Paying for opportunity now creates prosperity in the future”
That was the theme in Castro’s speech. Aside from the oblique red meat.
That’s the line that should be remembered as well as Obama’s “There are no red states. There are not blue states. There is only the United States of America.” theme from 2004.
Castro could be ready in 2020 or 2024. Governor of Texas in 2014 would be a nice parking place.
Thought Strickland’s was the best crafted and delivered speech. Patrick’s a close second. As an answer to Ann Romney’s speech, Michelle’s couldn’t have been better written or delivered. Not sure I would have made that same choice but understand the decision. Castro seems likeable enough but his speech was not good.
