Crazy stuff has been going on in the Boston suburbs. A police officer was shot multiple times on the campus of MIT and died from his injuries. Then a police chase broke out in nearby Watertown and at least one suspect was taken into custody. There were explosions, with reports that the police came under heavy fire. There was talk of people throwing sticks of dynamite from an SUV. Parcels were thrown into the street that the Bomb Squad had to deal with. The police and media were told to turn their cell phones off if “they wanted to live.” It could be related to the marathon bombings but no one can confirm that. There was one report that one of the suspects threw what looked like a pressure cooker bomb at a police officer. It’s impossible to piece everything together, but it’s clear that there has been a running battle in the suburbs that started at MIT. One of my early theories of this case was that the perpetrator(s) was a MIT grad student(s). I still have no idea if that is true.

As it turns out, one was a student at UMass-Dartmouth. Basically Massachusetts’ version of West Chester U. or Kutztown State. I was asking what caused you to have the theory you stated. It was just a question. Lighten up!
Twitter is saying the scanner is telling police to be on the look for a white male with light skin. Dave Sirota gets his wish.

And that info turned out to be wrong.
“stuff going on”: understatement of the year.
Virgin Airlines offers satellite tv, even in coach, so I watched this during my flight home (just got in, by the way. Gonna be a weird day).
So my understanding is these two guys, who are suspected of being the Boston Marathon Bombers, decided to knock over a 711. After that, they killed an MIT campus cop, multiple bullets. Then, they carjacked some guy, but let him go after a half hour. At this point the police chase is well underway, and there’s a firefight, during which the two suspects are not only shooting but hurling grenades (?) and perhaps another pressure cooker bomb. One guy, black hat, gets shot and dies in the hospital. White hat, to the best of my knowledge is still at large. The MBTA is shut down. Watertown residents are being evacuated (MBTA send over a few buses to facilitate this).
“Stuff going on near Boston”. You mean “totally fucking insane shit that only happens in movies going on near Boston.”
I have to admit, I don’t know what these guys were thinking. If they ARE the bombers, you’d figure they’d lay low and try to sneak out of town quietly, especially once the photos started popping up.
Instead, they go on this bizarre rampage that ends with one dead, and probably the other too. Fuckin’ NUTS.
