It’s powerful evidence of American narcissism that we spend this day glorying in our victimization over the death of 3,000 people, in response to which we murdered a million who had nothing to do with it. And we pay no attention to them at all, we don’t even acknowledge the crimes. Now that’s American exceptionalism.
Sadly, I think it’s universal human nature. Our species will never overcome its powerful tribal impulses, and will ultimately be destroyed by them. (No, I’m not feeling very cheerful today, thanks for asking.)
Two great social media pieces today. The first was a graphic reminding of the death toll of 9/11 and the death toll of innocent Iraqis from our response to 9/11.

Cheer up man. Things are getting better!
We are still evolving as a species, at a surprisingly fast clip . Don’t give up, give us a few more centuries. It’s all going to work out!
There’s a pic going around my FB feed asking if I’m still pissed off.
I feel like saying that I can’t live my life being pissed off all the time.
It’s time we move from anger and grief to something more positive, what that looks like I’m not really sure though
Do you think Iraqis might be a little bit pissed off?
probably but that’s not what it is referring to, it’s about 9/11
I’d be willing to bet that few even care if Iraqis are pissed off or not
When did it become a holiday?

The second is this:
David Graeber, The Baffler: The Bully Pulpit
David Graeber, the author of Debt: The First 5000 Years on domination and bullying from the playground to the battleground.
Every bully needs a victim and a witness. The witness legitimates the bully and generally delegitimates the victim. That is what keep the bully going.
Now do you understand the role of media in society and why the Democratic Party has been losing.
