It’s disgusting to watch how the Senate Republicans operate. It’s so important to them to pass a bill repealing ObamaCare that they can force the president to veto that they’ve pulled out all the stops to get it done. Their logic is unassailable. Maybe a Republican politician, including the presidential candidates, could get away with saying that the proposed bill didn’t go far enough–didn’t get all the roots and branches–but they wouldn’t dare oppose or vote against a bill that took funding away from Planned Parenthood. If they combine the two things, all the Republicans would be too scared to oppose it.
“I don’t think anybody who considers themselves being a pro-life senator wants to be on record voting against something that would redirect funding for Planned Parenthood,” said South Dakota Sen. John Thune, the third-ranking Senate Republican.
Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas added: “Running in a Republican primary and saying you’re going to vote against a repeal of Obamacare? That strikes me as counterintuitive.”
At least they know their base, right?
Never mind that someone just showed up at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado and killed a bunch of people, including a police officer.
And all of this is for a bill that the president will simply reject with complete and appropriate contempt.
It’s just a show to try to demonstrate that they’re trying to keep their promises.
I don’t know that they’re even going to succeed in that deception.
What a waste of time.
But at least they’ve won over the important people, right?
For weeks, Cruz, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate and chief McConnell nemesis, and conservative Sens. Mike Lee and Marco Rubio threatened to vote against a House-passed bill dismantling the health care law, insisting that it didn’t go far enough in the Republican quest to finally send a sweeping Obamacare repeal to the White House.
Now, nearly a dozen GOP sources say Cruz and Rubio are almost certain to support the bill that kills significant portions of Obamacare, though they hadn’t yet made their position official.
Aren’t you impressed?

On Monday, GOP leadership offered reassurances that there will be a two-year transition period that keeps federal subsidies flowing until the next president passes a plan, sources in the room said. And senators were reminded that the president would veto the repeal bill anyway, meaning Republicans could vote on the measure without having to deal with the political risks of actually making major changes to existing law.
Amazing that so many people are hoodwinked by Republican talking points. But it’s been that way for my entire lifetime so far. I can’t help but recall the SNL sendup of a Bush/Dukakis debate in which Bush gives his standard “thousand points of light” talking point in some manner completely unresponsive to a question and Dukakis mutters, “I can’t believe I’m losing to this guy.”
Forget about that

And what will Collins really do about it? Nothing. Just offer a bill that won’t go anywhere. Will she denounce Yertle the Turtle on MTP, or another public platform?
Nothing but a campaign posturing. They KNOW Obama will veto. They also know that they can’t override without a dozen or so Democratic votes. For a Democrat to vote to override would be political suicide. They know that. it’s just a litmus test for the base. One that is a Catch-22 for Cruz and Rubio. They have to vote for it in the primary but it’s toxic in the general election. The Turtle has it in for them. Maybe the Turtle backs Jeb!(tm).
I am, even if the goal is cruel, symbols are important.
the entire ruse is nothing more than a pretense to enable the rat pubs to claim the high road vis-a-vis election posturing; as in we tried to present a reasonable comprise, and look what the response was….
what they hope to accomplish, or who they think it may benefit is beyond my comprehension at this point, as they have no sane viable candidate.
so, impressed? absolutely not.
Perception is everything.
